Bad (and Confusing) News from Sephora

So the latest is that Sephora will now be opening a warehouse in Canada so that they can ship products from here.  Theoretically this is good: it means that if you order something online, you should be getting it quicker and it means that there’s less impact on the environment as well.

However, Sephora is also changing their return policy: returns will now need to be received within 30 days of purchase instead of the 60 days that they allowed us before.

That’s not even the bad news.  The bad news is that Sephora will not be shipping certain products because they don’t comply with Canadian packaging laws.  These include the following brands:

  • Bobbi Brown (select products)
  • Bvlgari
  • CHANEL
  • Clarisonic
  • Clinique
  • Donna Karan
  • Giorgio Armani
  • Illamasqua (select products)
  • Lancôme (select products)
  • Laura Mercier (select products)
  • LAVANILA
  • L’Occitane
  • Michael Kors
  • Murad
  • Narciso Rodriguez
  • Perricone MD (DMAE products only)
  • Ralph Lauren
  • Shiseido (select products)
  • Silk’N

So the confusing part is that you’ll notice brands on the list that are readily available here – Giorgio Armani, Chanel, and Clarisonic, just to name a few, so why won’t Sephora be selling them?  I don’t have an answer for you but I’m wondering what Sephora will be putting on their shelves if these products aren’t there.

I’m guessing that where it says “select products” it probably has to do with labelling sunscreen ingredients – our regulating body was different rules than those in the U.S. and to get your product approved with sunscreen takes much more time and effort.

I’ve also noticed that certain products from the brands above are listed as being “out of stock” on the Canadian website – so if you want to stock up by ordering online, it seems like it’s too late.  Something that I just ordered last week is not available anymore, unless I order it in the U.S.!

Lets see how this shakes down, but in the meanwhile, stock up on what you need if you’d rather buy it at Sephora!

This sucks! I just checked the site and they don’t sell Ouidad products anymore and a sunscreen from Tarte isn’t available either. I would rather have the wait to receive products in the mail than not be able to get them at all. I also think they should have notified Canadian customers that this was happening so we could have stocked up.

Hi List order Tarte directly from Tarte Cosmetics. They ship to Canada and regularly offer 20% off. Just subscribe to their emails. I find that Shoppers and Murale are starting to offer alot of products that Sephora carries and I prefer to buy from them anyway. The Shoppers Optimum Points really add up. I just bought a $180 cream form $50.00 using my points and they gave me 30,000 point back on the deal. I feel that Sephora has to change the way they offer incentives. Those points they give you really are worthless.
Here is Tartes Website: http://www.tartecosmetics.com. If you sign up for their email they will give you a 20% off coupon code right away. Now Too Faced delivers to Canada and if you sign up they will also send you a 20% off coupon code.

Also Murad..if you signup at their website they send so many offers. It is much cheaper to buy from Murad then it is from Sephora. They will send coupons that say if you spend $100 you get $20.00 off. Or if you buy a product you will get a full sized cleanser of your choice free. Just little tidbits to offer.

Hi Lisa regarding the tarte sunscreen I have to take back what I said. When I try and get it off the Tarte website it says not available in Canada :(.
Sorry but you still can get 20% off Tarte products.

So it looks like Canadian authorities are cracking down on all retailers instead of just Sephora! I guess Sephora is just the major retailer for most of us and that’s why it’s such a big deal, but if everyone now has to abide by the rules then that’s a different story!

  6. Henna says:

I had no idea that so many of you shopped online!

It’s crazy how good the deals can be: I always shop online at GapCanada.ca and it seems that there’s always a 40% promotion going on, so you never have to pay full price for anything.

My sister-in-law also taught me a trick. She said sign into your account. Pick something like and put it in your basket but don’t check out. She said that the retailer will send you a coupon code within a few days saying something like “you left something in your basket here is a 30% off coupon to finish your transaction.”. I tried this with Express and it worked and also Vitacost.

  8. Ruby says:

Okay so now the tarte sunscreen is on their website for Canada. I was able to go to the ordering page and it no longer says not available in Canada.

    Great news!

  9. Henna says:

Yay! Thanks for the update Ruby! I got a sample of this with my last Sephora order, so I’m going to be testing it out soon too!

  10. Henna says:

    That’s a great idea!

Glad they’ll ship from Canada soon. So tired of the week plus it takes from US warehouse, but I agree Murad is getting better and can rival tired old sephora.
