When I started this blog, I had no idea that I would get to test out so many new products. It has been so fun, and I love Best Of lists, so this is my time to compile one of my own! Leave your own “best” products of 2007 in the comments!
Best Mascara: Courbe Virtuose by Lancome is my favourite mascara of the year because it does actually curl your lashes ever so prettily and adds volume. Love it.
Runner up Mascara: CoverGirl Lash Blast. I like that it’s so buildable, but the fat wand is just not my thing.
Best Foundation: Face Atelier Ultra Foundation. You have to try this because the texture is so skin-like that you can’t even tell that you’re wearing foundation when you have this on. Plus, a little goes a long way which means that you don’t have to save this for a special occasion.
Runner up Foundation: Bobbi Brown Oil-Free Even Finish Compact Foundation – I liked this one so much that I bought another when the first compact finished. Again, Bobbi Brown foundations are amazing because they just look like your own skin. The Bobbi Brown brand also gets extra snaps for their wide range of colours and the amazing service that I always get at their Holt Renfrew counters. (If you frequent the one on Bloor Street, ask Kate to do your makeup, she is awesome and really sweet.)
Honourable Mention: Anything from the CoverGirl TruBlend line. If you have a hard time finding a match for your skin, try this line. There is also now a range of formulae to choose from.
Best Lip Gloss: Goodness me, I had a terrible time picking a favourite in this category because I really had four that I loved. The winner for this one is the Lancome Color Fever Gloss and what gave it an edge is that it’s completely non-sticky and has a nice applicator. I liked the colour I had so much that I actually finished it. Yes, I actually finished a gloss, do you know how rare that is for me?
First Runner up Lip Gloss: MAC In 3D Glosses were my second favourite. Again, I liked a couple of colours so much that I finished them, and I loved the texture of these glosses. I also liked that they came in bright colours but were wearably sheer.
Honorable Mention: Balmshell lip gloss, first available at Holt’s and now at Sephora as well these are non-sticky glosses that come with a kitchy key chain.
Best Nail Product: Sally Hansen 4-in-1 Treatment. This really does keep nail polish on, and I find that when I use it, I can go a week without any chips at all. I used it so much that I bought a second bottle. It’s pricy for a drugstore product but it’s worth it since it works!
Runner up Nail Product: L’Oreal Pro Manicure Nail Polish Quick Dry is hard to find but worth the search, and is something every busy beauty maven needs.
Best Hair Product: This year, I really liked the L’Oreal Vive Pro with Nutri Gloss Line. I really did see my hair get shinier but there was no build up.
Runner Up Hair Product: Pantene Pro-V Detangling Mist was another favourite and it really works.
In general, I have to say that all the hair products I tried this year were pretty good, and again, I had a hard time picking winners from this category.
Best Indie Beauty Brand: I got to know a lot of local and independent beauty brands this year, and they all offered something original. My favourite was the Honey Dipp line – just have a look at their ingredient list and you will see why. They have a high amount of actual emollients in their body butter and I absolutely love their scents.
Runner up Indie Beauty Brand: Mixed Chicks. I was introduced to the Mixed Chicks brand when I went to get my hair styled, and I really like their leave-in conditioner. It is one that I like to have on hand at all times and I would recommend it to anyone who needs to tame curly hair.
Honourable Mention: Sharon Bolton Scents – the Jasmine scent is so good and if it’s good enough for some celebrities, it’s good enough for me!
Best Body Moisturizer: The Quench line is great – it has a high amount of petroleum jelly in it so it is able to keep moisture in your skin. I use products from this brand every winter and I would recommend them to anyone with problematic dry skin.
Runner up Body Moisturizer: I fell in love with Kiehl’s Creme de Corps this year, and finally see what all the hype is about. Now that it’s available with an SPF, this can be your go-to moisturizer for the summer as well.
Best Eye Shadow: I have found eyeshadows from the L’Oreal brand to be very long lasting, so I like them a lot.
Runner up Eyeshadow: I also love MAC Mineralize Eyeshadows, and use a colour from the duos almost every day. They have the perfect mix of shimmer and pigment.
Best Collection: Hands down, no question, Lancome’s Mystery Collection was amazing, and reminded consumers of the collectible capacity that a good colour collection has.
Runner up Collection: The Estee Lauder Compact Collection was one to notice, and once again it’s the collectible aspect that makes it worth paying attention to.
Honorable Mention: MAC Royal Assets – these compacts look impressive and come in a nice array of colours.
