Body Shop Flags at Half Mast

So sad: Anita Roddick, the founder of the Body Shop, died yesterday due to a brain hemorrhage.

The woman was a pioneer in the beauty world. Yes, her soaps smell amazing but she was the one who introduced using natural ingredients in beauty products. Anita was also respected and lauded for using her company to raise funds for charity: the money went to AIDS research, helping battered and abused women, and many of her lotions and potions used Fair Trade ingredients ensuring that those from developing countries were paid fairly for their labour and goods. As well, the Body Shop was one of the first companies to be blatantly and proudly against animal testing.

Because of her, words like “body butter” and “foot scrub” are household names, and the beauty world will certainly miss her.

OMG, indeed! I did not hear about this! Wow, wow, wow. I will truly mourn her passing. I used to work for TBS and the store did its best under her leadership suffering, in my opinion, after she stepped down.
