Clinique Fall 2007: Play in the Darks

I’ve taken my own time in reviewing Clinique‘s latest collection, Play in the Darks, because it had a number of items that I wanted to explore thoroughly. At first glance, the collection seems nice – it promotes a dramatic look that may or may not be for everyone and at its best would be something most people would attempt for night. The dramatic eyes and the dark mouth together aren’t what most women would like to wear to the office or to school.

That said, the collection deserves a closer look because of the products that make it up.
The brand’s excellent Color Surge Eye Shadows have been improved on even more: they are now available in trios and contain even more pigment than before ensuring smooth silky colour that wears well throughout the day. I have a few shades of the original Color Surge Eyeshadows and they are excellent – in fact, in the winter I can wear them even without a primer which is unusual for me. The fact that these are now even better – well, lets just say that I’ll be making room in my makeup bag. The newest addition is Creme Brulee, a limited edition trio of golds and bronzes that is spot on for the season.

Also not to be missed is the new extended line of Almost Lipsticks. Black Honey, the cult favourite, is still there, but it has siblings now: Black Raisin, Black Plum, and Black Raspberry (pictured to the right). Though the colours are sheer, they do darken the lips a great deal and make them the focus of the face. If you’re wondering which you should get, note that Black Raspberry is the darkest shade now available – it’s even darker than Black Honey – and Black Raisin seems to be the lightest, relatively speaking. If you want a dark colour that’s easy to wear – not a lipstick or a gloss – then you should definitely give the Almost Lipsticks of this collection a look.

The newest Clinique collection is on counters everywhere.

Nota Bene: If you like to wait until Clinique Bonus Time to purchase Clinique products, then maybe hold off on getting the products . I’ve noticed that department stores take turns having Clinique Gift With Purchase Bonuses in the fall, usually around back-to-school time. Just saying.
