When you see as many new products a year as I do, sometimes it’s hard to get really excited about each and every one of them. You see a whole new line of makeup and you can’t help but wonder what makes it so much better than everything else that’s already out there.
But of course, there are those other times when you see something that you absolutely love and can’t help but be excited about.
Lisa Simon fits into that latter category.
Who is Lisa Simon? She’s the creator of her own eponymous line of facial and body products that are now being sold exclusively at Holt Renfrew.
Everything about these products is luxurious – they feel great, they’re well formulated, and the packaging is to die for. And it’s no surprise, really. Simon is from France and used to work for L’Oreal. She wanted to create a line of products that were inspired by India (a country she had been obsessed with her whole life) but retained a sense of French luxury.
She’s succeeded on all accounts because her line is simply breath-taking. Every product not only looks and feels amazing but it smells great too. When I mentioned to Simon how much I loved the scent, she told me that famed perfumeur Olivia Giacobetti – she who has created scents for L’Artisan Perfumeur, Frederic Malle, Diptyque, and even Guerlain. The inspiration that Simon gave her was a rose taking a spice tour in Kerala, and that’s what the product smell like. They’re all rosy with a hint of something a little peppery and different.
Particularly awesome in the line is the Lisa Simon Monsoon Season Refreshing Mist. Part perfume, part body mist, this product lets you ad something luxurious and fantastic to the everyday.
I found that the perfume smelled lovely and light and wasn’t overwhelming. At the end of the day, I was left with a hint of the scent.
Also great is the Palace Pleasures Body Scrub. It’s thick and rich and as soon as it hits water it foams a little so that you can use it easily. The particles are made of rice instead of salt or sugar so they don’t dissolve and you can scrub for as long as you need to.
After talking to Lisa Simon about her products, what I loved about them was that they really represented her. She was so passionate about what she wanted in a product line and she really created something that she could be proud of. She overlooked and was involved in every aspect of the product creation and she was inspired by India because she herself had been there many times, not because she she had heard or read about it. It was great listening to Simon talk about staying at an ashram and going to Kerala (a region that I myself have traveled to as well). Her experiences were unique and genuine and so are her products.
