I Tried It: L’Oreal Paris Press-On Nails

color riche press on nailsSo I’ve never really been much for fake nails.  They always look fake, and if I’m going to invest in fake anything, it’ll be eyelashes, thank you very much.  But when L’Oreal Paris launched Colour Riche press-on nails in a beautiful white swirly design, I kind of had to try them.

See?

Pretty, right?

And then I snapped that picture and sent it to a friend who is really into nails, fake and otherwise, and she said “wow!  How’d you do that?!”

Well, needless to say, even though they looked fake to me, I guess they looked so spectacular that nobody really focussed on the fake part.

But check out how they look from the side.

The problem is that instead of nail glue, these nails use a double-sided gel sticker to hold the nails in place.  It’s quite thick (at least as thick as the nails themselves) and so makes the fakes stand up from the actual nails.  The stickers aren’t that sticky either, so unfortunately, most of the nails fell off the same day I applied them.

The suggestion I got from friends is to keep the nails but apply them using a couple of drops of nail glue instead.  These come in lots of fun designs and I’m tempted to try them again, although the press-on nail look is not really my thing.

Have you tried press-on nails?

Wow. What a horrible review. The reason you can see your own nails from the side is because you chose the wrong nail sizes from the selection of 24 nails in the package. I wear these and they cover the sides of my nail just fine. When selecting your nails size you obviously need to take into consideration that the adhesive strips (which work really well!) will take up room.

If the size you put on didn’t fit, why didn’t you take them off and go up a size or two for each nail?

    Hmmmm….pretty straight forward.

  2. Susan says:

And the reason your nails fell off the same day is again, because you didn’t choose the right size. You need to select a size that covers all around your nail so nothing can get underneath the fake nail (water, dirt, etc) so the adhesive is able to work properly. Also, with the nails not completely covered, the fake nails are more susceptible to catching on things and potentially loosening them or ripping them off.

Jeeeeeeeze … use the brain in your head much?

There actually wasn’t a size included that was the right size for my nail. The next size up – which would have covered my whole nail – was wayyy too large and looked really fake. My nails are on the small size, so I could barely get enough smaller nails to use. They just weren’t for me!

I love these nails, and if u notice each nail has a designated sticker… It’s plan and simple! I have small nails as well but these all fit me perfect. Infact I can get away with getting two wears outta just one pack because they all fit me really well! I make it work. But yes they don’t stay on very long because I suck at putting the sticker on right, but the ones that do go on good last long! 10/10 love these nails!

  5. Emily says:

I’m totally with you, Henna. I have used a number of different kinds of false nails, and these did not work for me at all. I had similar issues with the false nails not fitting my nails properly, and agree that the adhesive stickers were very thick. I put them on and had lost one within a few hours, which hasn’t happened with other brands.

Too bad, because they are super cute! Won’t buy this kind again, and would not recommend.

These nails are more like nail tips than complete nails.
They only covered 3/4 the size of my thumb nail no matter witch one of the 24 i chose.
Awful product, complete waste of my money.

    Awful!!!
More like nail tips than complete nails. Only covered 3/4 of my nail as the length of my nail (even with the nail cut really short). Ive gotten a better fit by buying fake nails at the local dollar store.
    A complete waste of $13!

I love these nails. Actually I have worn them quite a few times. I have really small nails but that didn’t seem to be a problem I found appropriate sizes for each one. I was skeptical when I first tried them because I had always used the glue before and didn’t know how well these adhesive strips would work. The answer, amazingly! I was so impressed, and quite surprised. These held out so about three days longer than the glue ones. Easier to apply, no mess, and easy to remove. One around the sixth day I put a little Pond’s cold cream on my nails, waited a couple minutes and BAM! They peeled right off. I’m in love with these.

These must have changed because now the nails have a bit of a lip on the edge to accommodate the thickness of the glue. I found I had to REALLY press hard to get them to last more than a couple days, but now I can get them to last 2 weeks. The problem is the expense (Jamberry is just as beautiful if not more so, and you get twice as many manicures for less price, plus you can trim to fit). I found out the glue L’Oreal uses is called fugitive glue. I bought some of it and used it on my nail. I pressed some holographic wrapping paper to the glue, then put gel top coat on it. Worked fantastic, and you get a manicure for about a dollar 🙂

I just recently started using these, and they’re fantastic! I have nothing bad to say about them, if you use the right size, they’re great! No one thought they were fake and they stayed on for a little over a week.

  11. Jo says:

I just use them for emergencies – ie you break a nail before you go out or for me, on stage. Gluing stuff to your nails is not such a good idea, but once in a while is good enough for me.

  12. Snezana says:

Wow, Susan — pretty nasty! L’Oreal is paying you a good buck to write these refutations… why not be kind about it and improve your credibility?
