The Best of Sephora List is Out!

And here are the winners! I, of course, don’t agree with some of the picks but popular opinion prevails with this one. My own notes follow each pick. What do you think of the winners?

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion ($18) – A necessity in any beauty guru’s arsenal, this eyelid primer keeps shadow from doing a disappearing act. Keeps shadow from smudging or creasing all day and night.

Forget about it being a Cult Favourite, if you don’t own this already it’s only because you’re new to the beauty game. Make your eyeshadow last long into the night, make the colours stay-true no matter how dark your skin tone is, and make the most of your makeup with this product! Worth every penny because there’s nothing as good as this out there.

O-GLOSS Intuitive Lip Gloss With Goji Berry-C Complex™ ($26) – A perfect pink of your very own, this gloss reacts with your personal skin chemistry to transform from clear into your custom shade. The innovative formula is packed with an exclusive Goji Berry-C Complex™, ginkgo biloba, and pomegranate seed antioxidants along with revitalizing marine botanicals and moisturizing avocado oil for lustrous shine.

Mehhhh. Doesn’t anyone remember the Mood lipbalms from when they were 7?

Best Concealer
Bare Escentuals i.d. bareMinerals Multi-Tasking Face ($23) – This miracle concealer covers dark circles and skin imperfections for a truly flawless complexion.

I have yet to find the perfect colour in this, but oh well.

Best Foundation
Bare Escentuals i.d. bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation ($31) – Swirl, Tap, Buff! Made of only pure, crushed minerals from the earth, bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation looks like a powder, feels like a cream and buffs on like silk providing a natural luminosity and feels as if you are not wearing any makeup at all.

Yup, the above comments still apply.

Best Powder
Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil ($24) – For the ultimate, translucent “finishing touch” to your makeup, Mineral Veil melts into your skin, infusing it with softness and light as it gently absorbs oil and minimizes the appearance of lines and pores.

I have to admit that this is really very good. Perhaps one of the best oil-absorbing powders out there.

Best Primer
Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer ($44- $50) – Create the perfect canvas for your makeup. This silky primer smoothes and perfects skin as it fills in fine lines and pores.

It’s good but true beauty mavens know that there are many a silicone-based primer out there and one can find cheaper ones if one is on a budget.

Best Eyeliner
Smashbox Cream Eyeliner ($27) – Smashbox’s signature cream liner goes on best with a brush, for a beautiful, smudge proof lash line.

Pretty good – while you’re at it, get their slanted brush which is genius!

Best Eyeshadow
Smashbox Eye Shadow Trio ($36) – These versatile, perfectly coordinated shadow trios take the guesswork out of the picture-perfect, three-color eye.

Good pigments and good colours that match well in each trio set. What more could you want?

Best Mascara
Dior DiorShow Mascara ($31) – Lash-out with this super volumizing, lengthening, and curling mascara that promise bat-worthy eyes.

This has never worked for me so you know I have to disagree. But I want to hear from you if this does work for you – which mascaras did it beat out?

Best Lip Gloss
Nars Lip Gloss ($28) – Gloss on and on. This highly pigmented lip color goes on smoothly for pout-popping shine.

This is indeed a good lip gloss though I would have to say that my all-time favourite of those sold at Sephora is still the Stila Lip Glaze. I want one in every colour, and their lip glaze kits are on my wishlist every single Christmas.

Best Lipstick
Nars Lipstick ($30) – Enriched with vitamin E, this lipstick promises satin-looking lips with color that stays true.

Meh – I find that there are tons of good lipsticks at Sephora. I’m unsure of how this one beat out all the rest, but I’m thinking that it might be because Nars is a cult fave and those voters come out in droves at

Best Blush
Nars Blush ($29) – Dust cheeks with translucent and natural shades for the perfect flush.

What can I say? I own 3 colours of this blush (Orgasm, Sin, and Angelika) and I still wouldn’t mind getting another two. They have truly great colours and just the right amount of pigment. Let’s not forget that they never streak or go on clumpy.

Best Bronzer
Benefit Cosmetics Boxed Powder Collection ($35) – For a sun-kissed, goddess style glow, try one of these radiant powders.

Yeah, Benefit rocks.

Best Eye Treatment
Kinerase Intensive Eye Cream ($74) – Go easy on the eyes with this gentle, non-irritating formula that works to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and improve the tone and texture around the delicate area.

I don’t try eye creams all too often so I can’t comment. Anyone else?

Best Face Cleanser
Philosophy Purity Made Simple ($14-$45) – This high-powered, one-step facial cleanser rapidly dissolves dirt and makeup for a deep clean that leaves skin feeling radiant and refreshed.

Basic and good.

Best Face Moisturizer
Philosophy Hope in a Jar ($50) – There’s always hope for healthy, radiant skin. This therapeutic daily facial moisturizer creates a rosy, glowing complexion.

Basic, good, and works!

Best Skin Savior
Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask ($55)
– Perfect for anyone whose complexion is looking lackluster, this burst of oxygen delivers the vitamins needed to bring skin back to life.

A good mask, but I’m not sure whether it really delivers oxygen.

Best Body Cleanser
Philosophy Amazing Grace Bath, Shampoo & Shower Gel ($31) – Bath at its best. This three-in-one bath, shampoo, and shower gel is scented with the lovely Grace fragrance.

It’s nice, but you know, Sephora’s Brand’s own shower gels are also nice.

Best Body Moisturizer
Philosophy Amazing Grace Firming Body Emulsion ($48) – A toning body moisturizer that helps to purify, moisturize, and revitalize dry and aged skin with a unique blend of antioxidants and vitamins E and C.

This is a good moisturizer!

Best Tress Refresher
Ojon Rub Out Dry Cleanser ($11)
– This cleanser instantly “erases” impurities, toxins, excess oil, and product build-up, while increasing hair volume at the root and treating the hair and scalp.

I love anything Ojon, and although I haven’t tried this, I bet that this is the best.

Best Tress Tamer
Frédéric Fekkai Glossing Cream ($25-$34)
– A leave in cream that boosts shine and repairs styling damage, while shielding hair from UV rays.

LOVE this stuff! So much that I’ve gone through 2 big bottles before. It makes your hair look absolutely perfect. If you haven’t tried it, you should, especially if you have curly hair.

Best Sunscreen
Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Cream SPF 55 PA+++ ($48)
– Highly nourishing, this cream formula provides defense against powerful UVA/UVB rays and is formulated with the retexturizing ingredient Xylitol to keep skin looking soft and healthy.

This is a great formula.

Best Fragrance For Her
Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue ($40 – $96)
– A stunning perfume with the liveliness of Sicilian citron, the happiness of Granny Smith apple, the spontaneity of bluebells, the intensity of jasmine, the freshness of bamboo, the charm of white rose, the character of cedar wood, the fullness of amber, and the embrace of musk.

This smells very nice but again, I could get lost in all the amazing fragrances that Sephora carries.

Best Fragrance For Him
Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Gio Pour Homme ($35-$95)
– A resolutely masculine fragrance born from the sea, the sun, the earth, and the breeze of a Mediterranean island.

If I’m not mistaken, this is the best-selling fragrance world wide, so it’s no surprise that it’s the winner here.

Best Tool
Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler ($28)
– The mother of all eyelash curlers, this iconic beauty tool delivers the perfect curl with the ultimate precision.

Obvious choice! If you have straight lashes, you must get this! Your life will never be the same.

The best in beauty is available at all Sephora stores, by calling 1-877-SEPHORA or on

I know you guys have something to add: is there anything on this list that you love too? Anything that you can’t believe made it on to the list? Leave me a comment!

  1. chipped red nail polish says:

Frédéric Fekkai Glossing Cream: I’ve been curious about this for a while but your recommendation for curly hair has me sold. I’ll pick up one of the smaller sizes tonight!

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer: Can you recommend a cheaper alternative? As far as primers go, I’ve only used That Gal, which I believe is more of a brightener. I also have Dr. Feelgood but I find it flakes on me.

As an aside, I adore DiorShow but it’s very bold and, since I avoid waterproofs, can smudge a bit throughout the day. Better than BadGAL and most similar alternatives. On a daily basis I prefer l’Oreal’s Voluminous Naturale.

  2. Henna says:

If you want a good primer that’s like Smashbox’s try the Quo version. It seems like the same formula (though I have not extensively tested both) but the Quo one is significantly cheaper.

  3. Yeah, I have been waiting for Sephora results from last week. I feel happy for all the winning products and once again I appreciate their products for winning such a great competition.
