Acid Toning

A lunch time discussion turned to Paula’s Choice BHA which is really one of the most iconic skincare products ever because even people who aren’t into skincare have heard of it, and will go to the trouble of ordering it online. People always ask me, do I use it too?

I don’t, but I have in the past. I sis use it when I couldn’t even order Paula’s Choice to Canada and whenever I went on vacation, I’d put in a Paula’s Choice order to my hotel room wherever I was going. After a while, I wanted something stronger, so I went to a formula that used BHA and AHA.

What makes a BHA product so good, is that BHA’s – salicylic acid – have the ability to cut through grease, so if you have oily skin, they help prevent breakouts and clogged pores by helping regular how oily your skin gets. You’ll find that your skin is just more clear when you use them because they’re working against the oil. When I was younger, and constantly worried about how greasy my skin would look, I found that using a BHA would keep my skin more matte longer and I realized it when I used them at night time and I would wake up with matte skin, which I loved.

These days, I use what’s easy to find, and I keep reaching for the Neutrogena glycolic products – the red one is part of the Stubborn Texture and the blue one is part of the hydrating line up of products. The red bottle has 7% glycolic acid and the other one is 10% – presumably, if you’re dealing with “stubborn texture” you are also a teen who may not have build up tolerance for glycolic acid. The 10% bottle feels like luxury skincare because of it’s glass so maybe it’s marketed to a different demographic, although I don’t know who has more disposable income these days – my friend calls them the “Sephora and Starbucks kids” because they seem to be darting between the two places and spend all their money there.
