Night Time Routine 2021

CONSISTENCY. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Text

Here’s my night-time routine, but I want to make sure I say that more than anything else, being consistent is what has made the difference. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Ok, let’s get into the routine because this is ALL actives, and NO, I don’t use them all daily.

The Differin is a 0.1% retinol and it is prescription. I use this every other day, and it has taken me a year to get my skin used to it. I started out using it once a week and that was enough. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Twice a week – on non-retinol nights – I use the Neostrata Peeling Solution. It’s pretty strong, so use as directed. I find this really helps with surface texture in a way that the retinol does not do. It’s also lactic acid based, so it is more hydrating than other peeling solutions I’ve tried, and it doesn’t leave my skin more dry. I actually wake up very glowy when I use this, so love that. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Murad Dark Spot Serum OR Vivier Advanced HQ serum go under the retinol and I only use them on retinol nights. TBH, both of these are good in their own way and are helping minor melasma, but I might move to something stronger once they’re done. We will see.

Vitamin C and Sunscreen in the morning. Random moisturizers and oils as needed, but usually only at night.

Zoologist Camel Review

I’m not going to compare this to an Arabian market, because, you know what, I’ve never been to one, so I don’t know what they smell like. Plus, when a scent is called Camel… a Middle Eastern reference is just too easy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Text

It was raining this morning, so I knew it would be the perfect day to pull out my sample of Zoologist Camel. The second I smelled this in the bottle, I knew the underlying sweetness would make this perfect for a chilly day. Sweet scents only get sweeter on my skin (I’m full of sugar, didn’t ya know), so I can’t wear sweet in the heat. It just doesn’t work. But a slightly cool, damp day is perfect for Camel. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This is a warm resinous scent that stays dry throughout its wear. It’s almost irrelevant to even mention the notes given by Zoologist – they list plenty, but at the end of the day, this is so well-blended that there aren’t many that stand out. There are florals in there, but none that I can really identify. There’s Myrrh which gives it that sweet heat, and frankincense for a mystical bit of smoke, some gourmand notes but this isn’t a gourmand scent. It’s a vibe… It’s date cake baking in the oven, it’s your grandma’s warm shawl around your shoulders, it’s people together. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I’ve been too intimidated to try anything from Zoologist, and it’s a house that doesn’t really speak to me. But, they’re from my hometown of Toronto, so I’m interested in the vision and what they have to say. And I liked this and I’ll be getting a larger decant or even a 10ml from the brand itself. It’s so wearable, and I know I’d love it in the winter.

Vichy Dry Touch SPF 50 Sunscreen

It’s ok.

TextTested out this Vichy Dry Touch SPF 50 sunscreen last week and I really wanted to love it… but the verdict is… it’s ok.

I love it for my face. It has a soft powdery texture and a matte finish that lets makeup glide on and stay on. I can feel the powder at the end of the day too, so it’s mattifying as it’s protecting. The powdery finish does kind of show up as powder on my tan skin, but that’s ok. I don’t mind it even if I don’t wear makeup. If you have any dry spots, this will definitely stick to them just like powder or a matte foundation would. But I hated this for the body. That white powder gets on your clothes and if you wear dark colours like I do, that’s a problem. The white is literally everywhere.

I’ll keep this on hand for my face but I won’t use it on my body.

$29.95 online, and I’ve linked to the SPF 30 because the SPF 50 was sold out.

New Products from The Beauty of Eczema

The Beauty of Eczema has added new bath products. Bath salts for softening water, and a bath oil that emulsified on wet skin and leaves it so soft.
Text

The Bathing oil is my favourite product because it’s one that emulsifies on contact with your skin, so I use it when my skin is still wet from the shower.  It’s basically a wet lotion that it feels so comfortable.  It gave me the softest skin ever when I used it.

Olaplex No. 3

Over it. TextHere’s a product that I swore by and have bought and rebought many times over. It’s the original @olaplex No. 3 which is supposed to repair broken bonds that have been damaged due to repeated coloring and processing. It is scientifically proven to work but it’s not doing much for me these days. Honestly, the @lorealparis Wonder Water makes my hair look good and gives me more bang for my buck so I use that and keep it stocked.

Antipodes Halo Skin brightening Facial mud Mask

Can I just say how much I appreciate this packaging? It’s chic, but also, I don’t have to dip my fingers into a jar repeatedly? I mean, I’ve done it my whole life and nothing bad has happened, but still…⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Text⠀⠀⠀

Listen, if you’re using a mud mask, you’re likely concerned about oily skin or breakouts, so you minimize bacteria you’re potentially putting on your skin, and this packaging helps you do that.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This is the Antipodes Halo Skin Brightening Facial Mud Mask, which has kaolin, glycerine, and some skin-calming ingredients like arbutin and zinc oxide, so it soothes skin that might be breaking out. Like all Antipodes products, this smells absolutely amazing, so you can feel like you’re having a nice spa experience, without going to the spa.⁣.⁣.⁣.⁣.⁣.

Veronique Gabai Le Point G

Wearing Le Point G by Veronique Gabai, and so intrigued by this brand. The founder, Veronique Gabai, used to be a perfume executive at Estee Lauder and then she left to start her own brand. This perfume brand was launched in 2019 so it’s fairly new! I always think that there’s some magic when a brand first launches. They seem to be more interesting and have a real vision. All the scents that the brand has launched are inspired by the Côte d’Azur. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Text

The packaging also needs to be talked about – these bottles are refillable and plated in real 18k gold.

Maybelline Sky High Mascara

THE MOST HYPED MASCARA OF 2021. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I got it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This is a recent purchase. I ordered on Amazon where they said it would take a month to get here, but actual delivery time was about a week. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

TextOk, Maybelline Sky High mascara – is it all that and a bag of chips? Well… no. But it’s pretty good, ok? I would give it a solid 7/10. It’s a wet formula on a bendy brush which means I had to get used to applying it well, but it’s also a smudge-proof formula that comes off with water, kind of like a tubing mascara. ⠀⠀

I like it, I would repurchase.
