Bumble and Bumble and Moroccanoil Empties

Empties from this weekend. One I’m sad to see go, and one I wouldn’t replace. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀TextThe Bumble and Bumble Bond-Building Repair Treatment is lovely – it’s nice and thick and really feels so nourishing to my hair. I loved using this and I would repurchase it. I love this line a lot (Rose-gold packaging) and the Glow Cream in this lineup is really great. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The Moroccanoil Mending Infusion was nice, but honestly, I need SO MUCH of it in my hair that I knew it was going to finish quickly. I wash my hair pretty frequently, and if I use lots after every wash, then… yeah it lasted 3 weeks. This is probably not for very frizzy hair like mine is and for relatively unproblematic hair. I loved it (which is why I kept using it) but it didn’t go far.

Empties: Lip Product with SPF

Empties from the week. MAC Cosmetics lipstick and a Blistex Superfruit Soother with SPF in it. You’d think I’d wear less lip stuff because of masks but.. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I’m still me.

Sunscreens On Rotation

Some sunscreens I have on rotatation right now – let’s go from left to right. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

TextAveeno Sensitive Skin Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50. Thick, greasy, white. I don’t hate it because I can see where I’m putting it and it stays on. Water resistant, and the grease really helps it not come off in the water. This is the sunscreen I wear when I’m going swimming in the lake, but I would never wear this to a pool party because of how thick and white it is. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Vichy Ideal Soleil Sport, SFP 60. Says it is light and refresh and it’s true! The formula is a dream and you can tell by the bottle that this is my most reached-for sunscreen on a daily basis. For face and body, this is basically the holy grail of sunscreens and I would buy it in a pump jug if I could. It is water resistant, but I would say that the greasiness of the Aveeno sunscreen is still my preference for the water. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Finally, Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Face sunscreen. I use this for reapplying on the face and anywhere that’s harder to reach… Turns out that this one is sold out almost everywhere, but seems to be available at Walmart right now.  If you have gotten your hands on it, consider yourself lucky!

Sisley Soir d’Orient Review and Video

Latest #blindbuy: @sisley Soir d’Orient. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

TextIf you watch my stories on Instagram, I posted about this scent a few weeks ago and said that using the word “orient” and “oriental” in fragrance descriptions is not only outdated but also racist. Although the word “oriental” came into use as a fragrance category in the 1920s, Sisley’s Soir d’Orient was launched in 2015, so there was really no reason to continue stereotyping Asian countries, since air travel has made those places much more accessible, and the Internet has really allowed everyone the opportunity to connect with other parts of the world. Why would a brand use the word “orient” to describe its scent? What images come to mind, and what are the negative connotations of this word?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Anyway, with all that in mind, I couldn’t bring myself to pay full price for Soir d’Orient, but I found it on eBay!  Someone else had blind-bought it and then decided that it wasn’t for them.

If you want to know more about how this smells, watch my video review:

Daytime Routine

How many products are in your daytime routine? Mine has 2, sometimes 3. I’ve found that simple is best when it comes to my skin. Even though a have a roster of products I like to use, at any given time, day or night, I probably only use two or three products on my skin. Mornings most days is a vitamin C serum and sunscreen. I find that many sunscreen formulations are moisturizing enough for my combo skin and I don’t need anything extra. I put foundation on top most days so that adds some sun protection and moisturizer too. The simpler I keep things, the less prone to breakouts my skin is. If there’s any flakiness, I add a mist before the vitamin C, and sometimes afterwards too, or I mist and moisturize throughout the day. ⠀⠀⠀Text⠀What’s you’re routine? Do you have lots of steps or do you keep things pretty simple?

Avene Tinted Sunscreen Empty

Do you like tinted sunscreen?

TextI go back and forth with it. Some days I love it and some days, I get annoyed that it seems to get on my towels and clothes. Finished this Avene Tinted Mineral Formula and I’m glad I had it around. It came in handy when my skin couldn’t handle anything else.

Online and in drugstores.  $28.96.

Biosculpture Gemini Spring Nail Colours

Every summer I gravitate towards yellow nail polish – it used to be a colour I hated, but I think it’s very 2021.

TextThis is Tropical Sunray in the Gemini polish formula from Bio Sculpture. You probably know of the brand for their gel nails but they regular nail polish too and it is so creamy. Actually, cream colours are what they do best. Most of these nails took just two coats of polish, and yellow polish is notoriously streaky when it’s creamy but this formula does it right. Normally I like neon yellows, but this time I went for a sunny yellow and I love it.

The pink is called Crazy Daisy.

Vichy Dercos Anti-Hair Loss Box of Treatment.

This is the Vichy Dercos Anti-Hair Loss Box of Treatments. It’s a 21 day program – a serum that you apply to your scalp. I’m using it now, I’m on my third day, so stay tuned!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Text

Apparently, this has 5 ingredients that helps prevent hair loss. Would you try this? I know lots of you are interested in maintaining the health of your hair, so I will report back. I will say that because this is a treatment that can be used on wet or dry hair, I’m finding it easy to incorporate into my routine. I put it on right after I wash my hair and I’m good to go. Normally treatments need to be applied before washing and they need to sit there for a while, and I just don’t have that kind of time on my hands. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

If you’ve tried this or a treatment you like, let us know in the comments!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Chronotope Spite Flight

A few weeks ago, I participated in Chronotope perfumery’s Spite Flight – this was a virtual perfume salon and it was so interesting. Carter, the perfumer, sent us some of the ingredients that are in his newest perfume, Spite EDP, and then walked us through them and explained how they worked in his perfume. ⠀⠀⠀⠀

Text

Obviously, Spite has more ingredients and notes than what he sent, but it was refreshing to see the fragrance from the point of view of the perfumer, and then see how the notes came together. I also loved that the little vials were numbered, and then it was up to us to guess what was each little bottle. At the salon, Carter told us which ingredient was in each and we could see how they came together. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Chronotope is going to have more of these, so if you’re interested in learning more about ingredients and notes that go into perfume, keep your eye out for them.

Why is My Sunscreen Pilling?

Unpopular opinion: it’s not your sunscreen, it’s your skincare. ⠀⠀⠀Text⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Sometimes I get dm’s or comments from people telling me that the sunscreen I just reviewed pills. I’ve tested quite a few in the last little while, and I’ve just found 1 that pilled on me! It wasn’t the Neutrogena Hydro Boost but this one has reportedly pilled on a lot of people. I think it’s because it has a silicone base that doesn’t always play well with an oily moisturizer. If you put oil on your face, or you use a moisturizer that’s oily, then certain sunscreens (or even makeup primers) are not going to work. The oil makes the sunscreen pill!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Anyway, I’m reaching for this Neutrogena Hydro Boost sunscreen these days, because it’s light and works for face and body. If you have sensitive eyes, this isn’t for you, because it does sting if sweat gets into your eyes. It’s great for the body though and for reapplying.
