Antipodes Moisture-Boost Lipsticks

TextHealthy or not, I’m loving these two colours of lipstick from @antipodesskincare , a skincare company out of New Zealand. These are their Moisture-Boost lipsticks which are actually in a creamy satin-matte formula, so they go on smoothly but then set to a more long-wearing traditional finish.

I’ve been seeing this type of a lipstick formula everywhere (the Lise Watier lipsticks I talked about last week were similar, way more creamy but also set), and I like it because it offers more versatility than ever before. You aren’t tugging at your lips to get that matte finish on them.

L’Artisan Parfumeur Safran Troublant Review

TextSafran Troublant by L’Artisan Parfumeur is a scent that was recommended to me by so many people at different times and contexts – when people say that I love rose scents, and when they saw that I’m having a moment with Rooh Afza, a rose-flavoured syrup from my childhood. Also, saffron which makes a frequent appearance in my life, just lends itself to my scent memories. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

TextSafran Troublant smells like Ras Malai – that milky refreshing Indian dessert – except Safran Troublant is warm and comforting. It’s the perfect fragrance for the end of the day because of its coziness. Rose, Saffron, creamy lactonic notes, and a bit of sweetness. It’s gourmande without being cloying.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

People have said that this disappears on them – it doesn’t on me. It doesn’t have great sillage or projection, but it does last and last. It just changes, and I have to say that Saffran Troublant has the longest transformation time of any of my perfumes. I smells like itself for a full 8 hours, but then after that it turns into a creamy sandalwood, so milky that it reminds you of dessert. This makes it the perfect cold-weather scent, particularly for a chilly spring day. You get that rose saffron combo during the day but at night, you go to bed in the cozy embrace of sandalwood. What could be better?

Bumble and Bumble and Christophe Robin Empties

Empties from the weekend:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Bumble and Bumble Save the Day Daytime Protective Repair Fluid. In the end, I loved this and it made my hair so soft. It wasn’t great for blowdrying but I liked it for air-drying and as a general leave-in conditioner type of product. It’s a bit liquidy and I needed a lot if I used it on wet hair. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Also, Christophe Robin salt-based shampoo – yes, that’s the one in the jar. This stuff is amazing for when you want a deep clean, and I used it just a couple of times a month and it lasted a long time. It is very foaming which is what you want when you’re in the mood for a deep clean.

Tarte Shape Tape Glow Powder in Starlit

TextHere is Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape Glow Powder in Starlit, which is part of their Shape Tape collection. People have compared it to the iconic Hourglass Luminous setting powders and I would say it’s BETTER. Less glowy and more wearable.

It also seems to blur imperfections but without coverage. Try it UNDER foundation or sunscreen and see if it sticks better! That’s my favourite way to use this.

Available at Sephora stores now.

Are You Applying Enough Sunscreen?

Hands up if you get tanned even when you wear sunscreen.Text

Yeah me too. It’s because we aren’t applying enough and reapplying often enough. You really want a THICK layer and then let it dry. If that’s hard to do: apply more thinner layers. This summer, I’m applying on my face (one finger), doing the rest of my body, coming back to my face (one more finger) and then doing the rest of my body again. Don’t rub it in until it’s gone. Just leave it wet and let it dry there on its own.

The sunscreen I packed in my bag for a morning out: Vichy Ideal Soleil SPF 60. This is a crowd-pleaser and it’s clear even when you apply a lot.  The recommendation is that you apply one shot glass full of sunscreen for your body.

$22.49 and definitely everybody’s favourite formula.

Honest Beauty Hydrogel Cream

TextThe Honest Beauty The Hydrogel Cream has a mix of water and squalane (among other ingredients) so it gives you the finish of the oil but in a cream. I love squalane because it’s light enough to really work well for oily skin, which is what I have. Part of the Thoughtful Choices at Shoppers Drug Mart, this was gifted, but I actually do happen to love it.

Neutrogena Overnight Recovery Gel Cream

Sooo smooooth.

TextNeutrogena Overnight Recovery Gel Cream. It wasn’t helpful overnight for me, but I think this would be great for someone with oily and generally unproblematic skin. Look at that gel though – isn’t it pretty?

Amika Bust Your Brass Collection

TextHonestly, I hope I remember this level of maintenance and never get highlights again. But here’s some purple texture for your day. Amika Bust Your Brass Shampoo and Conditioner and I actually really like them! I just used them daily for a hit of purple and I leave the mask in for longer pre-shampoo.

Truly, I’ve found that the best way to get rid of brassy hair is to use the mask on a weekly basis, and let it sit in your hair while you work out, or do something else.  Then wash it out and you’ll have way less brass than what you started with.  The mask is so pigmented that I actually like to wear gloves when I apply it.

Available online, $26-$28.

Veronique Gabai Sur La Plage

Wearing Veronique Sur La Plage and being on the water is a treat.

TextThis is a citrusy marine fragrance that’s perfect for vacation because it’s light and versatile. It’s truly unisex too. It has some projection when you first spray it but then settles into essentially being a skin scent, and it doesn’t last long on me at all. The travel-sized perfume holders are gold-plated so this is like carrying around a beautiful piece of jewelry in your purse. It comes with a spray for $159 or you can get just the spray by itself for $59.
