Aveeno Calm and Restore Collection

I’ve using this @aveenoca Calm and Restore line and I’ll tell you that this cleanse is a cross between Cerave and the Fresh Soy Cleanser, so if that’s your jam, get it. I like to use it in the morning but it’s not bad at taking off makeup.

I love the soft slippery texture of this Aveeno Calm and Restore Oat Gel Moisturizer. I’d even say that this is the nicest gel moisturizer I’ve ever tried because of the slip in the finish. It’s light but not too light. I use it over my Vitamin C and under sunscreen.

When the world seems to be going up in flames, you can perfect your skincare routine for a moment of zen. I’ve been using the moisturizer with my Cerave vitamin C in the morning and I like them! The Cerave Vitamin C is 10% and super light, and the Aveeno Calm+Restore is a lightweight slippery moisturizer. I really let them absorb and put sunscreen on before I head out the door.

Basein Magnetic Lashes

These lashes are a breeze to put on and I put on the second from the bottom. If you watched my demo reel a few weeks ago, I had tried on the shortest pair and they were shorter than my real lashes.

The ones I have on in the pictures are a smidge longer than my real lashes. The eyeliner is magnetic and the strip of the lashes just attaches on. I need to be more precise with the liner and not get it on my lashes and I’m also going to try skipping the mascara next time. This little kit came with makeup remover and I highly recommend it because the liner is IMPOSSIBLE to remove even with double cleansing. I’m going to keep playing around with these but I do love them. Someone asked me if they last once they’re applied and they do!

Fragrance Layering: Serge Lutens Fleurs d’oranger and Aerin Garden Rose

Florals for spring: groundbreaking.

These 2 work really well together, but the Serge Lutens is an Eau de Parfum, so it has better lasting power, and the Aerin Garden Rose is a toilette with amazing sillage.  You smell the rose right away and for a while, but then it kind of dies down and you get the Fleurs d’oranger left.  It’s amazing. Text

Vitamin C Serum

I had a few questions about picking up a serum so I went through these: Vichy Liftactivv peptide-C Ampules, Boscia Vitamin C, XO Treatment Room Heavy C, Vivier Skin C E Peptides serum, and Cerave Vitamin C Serum. These are all 10% concentration, which is high enough to make a difference but low enough that I didn’t experience any stinging or adverse effects from using them.  I’ve tried a higher percentage (23%) from The Ordinary, and it was way too strong for me.Text

The Cerave is the cheapest for $24 and it’s in a silicone formula, which may or may not work for you.  Some people find that silicone breaks them out but I did not have this experience!  It might pill if you add oil on top so be wary of that.

That being said, I love the packaging and this is an effect product for the price!  A dropper bottle for Vitamin C isn’t great because every time you open the bottle, you’re exposing the vitamin C to light and potentially oxidizing the formula.  If you notice that it turns brown or smells weird, then it has likely gone bad and will not work as well.

I  like the Boscia Vitamin C ($60) and XO Treatment room serums the best because I love a pump and a liquid/gel formula.  They also use a form of Vitamin C that is stable and doesn’t oxidize at quickly.  The Heavy C can be found on the XO Treatment room website. It is $89. Boscia is available at Shoppers Drug Mart.

Dropper bottles look fancy but they constantly expose the formula to light, so the Vichy ampules are the best for preserving the formula, and if you’re going somewhere, they are good for packing along.  The Vichy formula does end up being expensive because you have to buy a pack monthly, but if you want the formula to always be super fresh and not oxidized, then this one is really nice. $32 on Vichy.ca.

Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt Review

Wood Sage and Sea Salt by @jomalonelondon. This is gorgeous – a warm, woody, marine skin scent that lasts and lasts. That’s kind of unusual for Jo Malone so this was surprising for me. I’ve seen some good gift sets around that have this one paired with some others, and I’ve already gone through a 5mL deluxe sample of this one.

Jil Sander Style

I am actually kicking myself for passing up Jil Sander Style last year.

I received the Jil Sander Style Body Milk as a Christmas present, and I’m finding that this is definitely an interesting scent.  It’s not sweet, and is slightly alkaline, but it dries down to a sophisticated woody vanilla, amber, musk and I’ve been getting so many compliments on it!

I’m using the Body Milk which is refreshing but creamy and moisturizing, and like most scented body products that are perfume flankers, it is very highly scented.  So much so that I can’t wear it to work since scent allergies seem to be cropping up all over the place, and the last thing that I want to do is offend or sicken coworkers.

I have, however, been dousing myself in this over the weekends and I’ve never smelled better.  Most of the scent dissipates in about an hour, but my clothes smell delightful for the remainder of the day which makes this perfect for a night out or for a day out and about in the sunshine.

Jil Sander’s brand is not the most high-profile, but I have found Style at most stores and pharmacies that I’ve been to recently so this scent is fairly accessible.  Give it a shot.

Prada Infusion d’Iris Eau de Toilette

Prada’s newest scent is actually a flanker to the Infusion d’Iris that they launched in 2007.  The Eau de Toilette is weird because the Eau de Parfum didn’t smell that strong to begin with.  EDT’s are usually lighter and fresher, and though this certainly is, they’re usually made as a counterpart to more heady scents.

Prada says that this perfume is meant to evoke crumpled linen sheets and the smell of skin.  It certainly does the former.  This smells just like laundry detergent or Bounce dryer sheets!

The notes are Neroli, Lily-of-the-Valley, Violet, Iris, Galbanum, Heliotrope, Cedar, and Musk.

Lasting power is pretty good – half a day is longer lasting than my actual laundry smells, so that’s saying something.  Get this if you really love fresh powdery scents.

Keri Shower and Bath Oil

When I posted a picture of this empty on my Instagram, it got so many comments, from people who normally don’t comment at all! The Keri Bath and Shower Oil brought up so many memories for people whose moms always had Keri lotion in the bathroom or on the dresser.  For some people, their mom only had Keri lotion and never switched brands.  I definitely understand that kind of nostalgia.

This is one of those oils and emulsifies when it hits water so it’s great on damp skin. I think that they have changed the packaging so you might encounter a more Arabian lamp type shape in the drugstore, but I did find that you can get this at Walmart or London Drugs.

Chantecaille Vetyver Perfume Review and Video

If you’re looking for something that works in warmer weather, I’m partial to scents that feature vetiver as the main player, like this bottle of @chantecaille Vetyver. Vetiver is a grass grown in India, and now cultivated in other hot places like Haiti, so it’s no wonder that it’s dry freshness works so well.

Perfume Rollerballs

Perfumes in rollerballs: someone said that they’re worried that the rollerball will contaminate the scent. I, personally, have not noticed this. I have perfume oils and they seem fine although I have not done a side by side comparison.
