Covergirl LashBlast Fusion Review

Covergirl’s LashBlast Fusion mascara promises to give you volume and length all in one mascara.

From what I can see, the applicator is pretty much the same as the original LashBlast mascara’s and the formula feels the same as well.  The applicator is gigantic and definitely takes some getting used to, but because the bristles are so fine, I find it really easy to use, and prefer it to other large applicators (Diorshow’s for example).

The thing is, Covergirl makes really good mascaras, and so this is just another one of them.

I got the mascara in Black, and it’s such a nice rich black that it blends in well with my eyeliner.  The mascara also layers really well so you can keep applying it for added volume and it doesn’t clump at all.

The length it provides isn’t anything impressive, but it’s not horrible either.

Did I use this mascara and think “Wow!”?  No, I didn’t.  But the last mascara that make me think that was Armani’s Eyes to Kill, and at a quarter of the price of that mascara, I would say this isn’t bad.  Although it’s not the most amazing mascara I’ve come across, it is still in my makeup drawer and I do use it from time to time.  I like it, but my favourite Covergirl mascara is still Volume Exact which I absolutely loved.

You can get it here, and it’s well priced at under $10!

Sisley Eau de Sisley Collection

Today let’s look back at Sisley’s collection of 3 eau de toilettes called Eau de Sisley.  These were launched in 2009, and none of the perfumes have been given a name.  They are only 1, 2, and 3, so that there’s no way to really distinguish between each until you smell them!

Three fragrances were created so that women could have 3 Sisley scents to choose between depending on their moods.  Each scent was created by a different perfumer with guidelines from the house of Sisley.  All are chypres, as all Sisley scents are, because of the long-lasting quality of chypre scents and their freshness.

Eau de Sisley 1 has notes of green mandarin, grapefruit, pink pepper and spices.  At first, all I could smell was the mandarin and grapefruit and what sharp acidic smells they were, though there were still green and fresh.  Then, slowly, the pepper started to come through.  It really gave the toilette a crisp quality.  The scent smells slightly spicy because of the pepper but still fresh at the same time – think lemon and peppers growing in a fragrant forest – that’s what I thought of with this scent.

Eau did Sisley 2 is my favourite.  It has notes of cardamom, bergamot, basil, water iris, Egyptian jasmine, cyclamen, rose, patchouli, vetiver, cedar and sandalwood.  It seems that I’m a sucker for anything with cardamom in it these days, and jasmine, rose, and sandalwood are already among my favourite notes.  I could definitely smell the vetiver in here right at the beginning but it’s not the lasting note in this scent, and I was glad for that.  The dry down is beautiful with notes of cedar and sandalwood, so you get a fresh, earthy, woodiness with this scent.

Eau de Sisley 3 is my least favourite.  Notes are citrus, bergamot, mandarin, grapefruit, lemon, red ginger, osmanthus, patchouli, vetiver, benzoin, vanilla and musk.  What makes me dislike it is the note of ginger in the scent.  It’s almost as if I can smell fresh ginger when I smell this, and although that can be a good thing, I just don’t want to be reminded of the kitchen when I wear a scent.  This is the warmest of the three scents, and the vanilla in the base makes this a tiny bit sweet.

The scents were launched last year in 100 mL bottles retailing for about $180.  This year, due to customer demand, they are being offered in 50 mL bottles which will retail for $108, which means that they are now much more affordable, and perhaps that means that you can now get yourself all 3!

Liquid Eyeliner

I think that eyeliner is making a big comeback, probably because of masks. I’m playing around with different colours and finishes now too, but most of the time it seems that I just have time for mascara.

I posted this image to my Instagram asking people if they could guess which one was the $80 Tom Ford liner. It’s not what you think.

The Tom Ford liner is the top one that kind of bleeds into my skin although this is my hand and there are no wrinkles on it.

My favourite eyeliner is actually the one on the bottom. See how it kind of seems to be a seal on my skin. It’s matte black and very long-lasting. That’s the Revlon Colorstay Skinny liquid liner, and it comes in a pot. It’s the cheapest of the bunch and works so well.

What’s your favourite?

Lush Breath of God Perfume

The worst packaging but the nicest perfume. This is Lush Breath of God perfume is an incense delight and the smoky scent is perfect for cooler weather. The name of the perfume might offend some? What does it even mean?

You have to know that the perfume was inspired by a a trip to South-East Asia and the heady incense notes are from the temples there.  The perfume is about that scent where you feel so close to God that you can feel God’s breath.  Take that as you will.

They have updated the packaging so that it’s in a traditional bottle but I didn’t see this travel size among the offerings. This packaging also didn’t have the name of the scent on the bottle so if you lose the little tag that’s attached to it, you’re out of luck.

Lasting power is amazing, sillage is good for the first little bit and the kind of diminishes. I do love this scent and felt that the Lush scents are so under-rated. Maybe because it’s hard to smell anything in their stores.

This is a very affordable $49.95 for 50mL or about $99.95 for 100mL.  I really recommend smelling and trying them as they are a bit different from the more commercial perfumes out there.  Available online.

Cerave Foaming Cleanser

Cerave is the brand that’s been boosted by Tik Tok because all the derms on there are recommending it.  If you can’t find their Foaming Facial Cleanser in stores (I’ve been told that it’s sold out EVERYWHERE), know that you can get it online.

$17.99 for the huge bottle that lasts forever and worth every penny.

The Best Lip Stain You Will Ever Use

I really like the look of lip stains because they stay on and they look more natural than lipsticks or glosses. I’ve been using MAC ones before, and they are pretty good – the colour can be sheer yet buildable. They don’t last forever, but the staying power is not bad and an application can get me through the morning.

I’ve also tried Vasanti lip stains – they are quite difficult to use. The texture is so watery that the pigment hardly stays on the lips, and when you do manage to get it on, it looks blotchy. Applying more of the stain doesn’t help because it just rubs out the colour that you did manage to get there.

And now I’ve found the best stain ever, and it’s by Beaute cosmetics. Beaute is a line of products started by Canadian-born, New York residing makeup artist Beau Nelson. There are only a few products in Beau Nelson’s line, but each and every one of them is amazing. I have a Beaute lipgloss and it’s one of the best I’ve ever tried – non-sticky, lots of staying power, and a chic colour that I wouldn’t have been able to find elsewhere.

The Beaute Liqui-Gel Stains are in a league of their own when it comes to lip products. The stain is a true gel that’s not watery. One application gives a bright vivid colour so that you don’t have to play around with the application and try really hard to do get a good colour. The colour I have is Fluoron which is a super-bright neon pink. It works well as both a lip colour and a cheek stain, and even when I layer a gloss on top of it, I find that the colour stays and does not wear off. The only thing that can take off this stain is an oily cleanser along with some soap and that’s how stains should be. Trust me, this will last you through the whole day.

You can purchase Beaute Cosmetics through their website.

L’Occitane Rose Callison Perfume in Gel

Friends, the world of perfume is evolving just like everything else, and today I want to introduce you to L’Occitane’s Rose Callison Perfume in Gel.

This is a gorgeous gourmande rose fragrance that is available in a soft skincare-like gel so that it wears close to your skin.  You don’t spray this on to your clothes, but maybe wear it behind your ear and enjoy it for yourself.  Put it on the back of your knees and enjoy it there.

You can see a bit of the gel coming out of the tube in the image above.  It is a glycerine-based gel so it feels slightly moisturizing on your skin and it really sticks.

Callison is an almond-vanilla confectionary, and this rose perfume has notes of it in the drydown.  It’s a floral gourmande scent that is super pretty and nice for the winter months.

$29 at L’Occitane.

Essence Get Big Lashes Mascara Review

I’m on the quest to find the perfect mascara, and this is one of my latest ones. I got it from Shoppers Drug Mart, and one of its selling features is that it’s just $4.99 like all the other Essence mascaras! It gives you lots of lush black lashes with just a few strokes of the wand.

It’s a great volumizing mascara, but I did find that it smudged a bit so I won’t be getting it again. Someone did send me a picture of this mascara in a pink tube and I think that one might be better.

If you have a mascara you like, share it here.

La Biosthetique Heat Protector Review

Here’s a story for you.

A couple of years ago, I went to Berlin with my sister. It was a quick trip and made for some excellent sister bonding time. One of the things that we love to do when we’re together is eat, and have really nice dining experiences. So we decided to try some Michelin-starred restaurants because they have some in Berlin. It was so fun.

But the first day, we were on our way to one of these restaurants, and it was in a beautiful courtyard. Before we entered the courtyard, there was a tiny little salon in the building right outside. The other thing my sister and I love is getting our hair done, so I we both popped into the salon to check it out and see if they could fit us in after our lunch. They couldn’t, and it was a tiny 2 chair salon, but they had this exclusive line of products called La Biosthétique that I decided to try because I felt bad that I had spent about 15 minutes in the salon just looking around and asking about the products. I told them that I wanted something for helping me blow-dry my hair, and they suggested this Heat Protector.

I used the heat protector the next day when I blow-dried my hair at the hotel. The Heat Protector smells absolutely amazing. It’s got kind of a botanical scent that reminds me of Aveda products, and I really love it. In fact, I loved how it smells so much that I decided to save this heat protector for special occasions.

Well guess what?

The special occasion never came, and so I didn’t really go back to this special occasion heat protector. And it was expensive too because I paid in euros. And then I wasn’t really even motivated to blog about it because you couldn’t get La Biosthetique in Canada anyway.

But now you can. And because I’ve been on quarantine, I’ve had time to try all different products and see how they work.

I liked the Biosthetique Heat Protector for blow-drying or heat styling my hair. It’s super light and makes my hair soft and moisturized. I loved that it also made my hair shiny and that it didn’t weigh my hair down.

But it provides almost no frizz-reduction and no protection from humidity. There’s almost no hold like there is with some blow-drying sprays.

I wouldn’t rebuy this, but I would definitely try more products from the brand, because I felt that this was a high-end product that made my hair feel good.

You can get it online for $32.
