Empty Video: The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask

Just finished using The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask, and I have to say that I loved the scent of it.  It smelled so luxe.  But this mask has a lot of little chunks in it which made it difficult to apply evenly, and it was super messy to wash off.  I normally take my masks off with a washcloth, but that was kind of messy, and when I took it off in the shower and that was messy too.  So just a note.  I think I like my masks smooth and without the chunks because they’re easier to put on and easier to take off.

Anyway watch the video to see.

Waterline Eyeliners

Eyeliners that work in the waterline are notoriously difficult to find because they need to be waterproof but they also can’t smudge into your eye cream.  I’ve found one that works.

It’s the Annabelle Waterline matte kohl eyeliner and it lasts all day!

$9.49 online.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Face Mist Sunscreen SPF 50 Review

The problem with any spray sunscreens is that you don’t know what kind of coverage you’re really getting because it’s hard to see where and how much you’re spraying.  That’s definitely what I experienced with Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Face Mist Sunscreen in SPF 50.

Now, actually, I do love the formula.  It’s clear, light and you can spray it all over your chest and neck without worrying that it’s going to leave whitish marks on your clothes.

It’s also oil-free and super easy to use.  You don’t get your hands dirty. Also, this is not a continuous spray, so it goes on just where you choose to spritz it.

I apply it after doing my skincare routine and call it a day.

Available online for $14.98.

Beauty By Zero Hand and Nail Cream

Beauty by Zero is a new brand that’s available at Shoppers Drug Mart this fall.  From Britain, this clean beauty brand not only has skincare with ingredients you can pronounce, but they also believe in being sustainable and not being bad to the planet.  As such, all their packaging is recyclable – you just make sure that the inside is clean and you can throw the tube into the recycling bin.

I loved this hand cream because it was rich and immediately soothed my dry skin.  I also used it on my face in a pinch and it worked well relieve dryness, and I used it on my daughter and felt good that the ingredients were natural.  I know that natural isn’t always everything – trust me, I love my skincare that comes in a lab-type dropper bottle – but when you have a hand cream lying around, everyone reaches for it and this was one that I was happy to share.

$19.99 at Shoppers Drug Mart.

Foundation Options

I’m basically always mixing foundations or switching around to find the one that has the perfect finish for my skin and the one that has the perfect colour at any given time. I guess the best way to go is just to not wear any foundation at all, but I do like a little something on my skin and so these are some that I’ve tried and have on hand.

Maybelline Tinted Primer (this was limited edition for the Gigi Hadid collection and definitely is too dark for me no matter what I mix into it).

Armani Luminous Silk. Literally weightless. This is the colour 8 which is my summer colour.

Make Up For Ever Water Blend Foundation in the colour 415 which is a bit dark and also a bit red.

Nars Laguna Bronzer

I found this Nars Blush/Bronzer/Highlight trio that I had gotten in 2011, and I’ve been using the beautiful Laguna bronzer as my contour colour.  It has a tiny bit of shimmer in it but not so much that it looks shiny.  It just prevents the bronzer from looking flat on your skin.

The Albatross highlighter in the middle is a lovely white-gold colour that would look good on anyone’s skin, and I’m not a huge fan of the Orgasm blush.  It’s more of a highlighting blush and I think that it would only look good sparingly on top of another blush.  I prefer a matte creamy blush on myself.

But then I found another Laguna bronzer, that had clearly been reformulated.

That bronzer isn’t as pigmented and it’s not as warm as the first Laguna bronzer, but it’s still a pretty and wearable bronzer. I like the one in the trio, but I hate having the trio out if I’m not using all the colours regularly.

Nars now includes bronzers as part of a duo, and also has a matte bronzer which looks good.  You can also buy Nars bronzers as a mini which seems like the best option, because then you can try it and see if you really like it.

Physician’s Formula Dewy Blush Elixir

First of all, I want to know who is still doing a full beat on their face considering the fact that they might be wearing a mask at any time of the day?

I’m not, but if I’m going to someone’s backyard, I’m going to be wearing makeup, but I know that as winter approaches that is going to be less and less.

Let’s talk about Physician’s Formula for a second. I heard that it kind of disappeared from everywhere for a second and people couldn’t find the product and then they could all of a sudden. Did that happen to any of you guys?

One of their latest products is the Physician’s Formula Dewy Blush Elixir, which I heard good things about. That being said, I just couldn’t get it to work for me because it is not very pigmented. I pressed it in instead of rubbing, I tried my fingertips instead of a brush, and it still did not do much, so I’m going to pass on this one.

Check it out at Shoppers Drug Mart for about $13.

Bite Beauty Outburst Lip Stain

I know that lots of us are looking for a lip product that stays on even with a mask on and so maybe this new Bite Beauty Outburst Lip Stain will be for you.

If you’re not for the drying nature of liquid lipsticks, this one is NOT like that.  It’s not a liquid lipstick.  It’s more like a lip balm that stains your lips.

I have it in Strawberry Frozé.  It’s a hot pink, a magenta on me, and you can see in the swatch below that it has a balm-like texture when you first put it on.

A couple of coats give you almost full coverage.  Although if you have pigmented lips like I do, then you’ll want more than one coat.

Once the balm wears off, you’re left with a popsicle-like stain that lasts the whole day.

Right now, this lipstain is only available in only 3 colours – a hot pink, a red, and an orange.  If these ever come out in a more natural-pink then I’ll get another one.

$24 or get all three colours for $54 online.  Also at Sephora. Vegan, gluten-free, and cruelty-free.

Fall 2020 from Make Up For Ever

Make Up For Ever has launched some new products this fall, and reformulated some old ones!

First up is their new Matte Velvet Skin High Coverage Concealer ($36). This is indeed a full coverage concealer and it dries completely matte. It’s great for those times that you want a crease-less look for your under-eyes, but because it’s matte, remember that it will accentuate any dryness. So if you have dry skin under your eyes, then wear an eye cream underneath! It is long-lasting! I have the shade 3.5 which has red undertones, but I could probably also go with 3.6 which has golden undertones.

It also has a huge wand so that you can use the light shades to highlight your whole face, and a deeper shade to easily contour. The wand kind of reminds me of the Tarte Shape Tape and I know that lots of brands have copied that look and idea, but at least this is a concealer that you can actually buy in Canada.

Next: The Aqua Resist Smoky Shadow ($30).  If you’ve been using their waterproof eye pencils on your whole eye like I have been for years, this is a good alternative.  That being said, I’ve found this to be so creamy so I use an eye primer underneath.

There’s also the new Aqua Resist Eye Pencil ($29) which is just for lining.  Both of them have a creamy consistency that doesn’t tug at your eyelids.  They also have sharpeners at the end so that you can get a really fine line, but I find that I can’t sharpen the eye pencil without it breaking – it’s just so creamy.

You can find the whole collection at Sephora.

Beautycounter Countersun Mineral Sunscreen Review

Let me start by saying that this mineral sunscreen is almost clear and I would use it on myself again.

I had a video review about this sunscreen… and then deleted by mistake. Oops. But here you go: if you want a mineral sunscreen, this is a great option, although you can only get it online.

The main sunscreen ingredient is 19% Zinc Oxide which means that it’s got lots of zinc oxide in it. That’s great, but zinc oxide usually shows up super white on tan skins, and this one doesn’t do that. Sure, there’s a bit of a cast but not so much that it’s bothersome to look at.

It’s greasy so I don’t like using it on my face, but I love using it on my body because it works like a moisturizer too. It’s also water-resistant (probably because it’s so greasy), so I took it with me for a day at the beach with my kids. I slathered them and myself with the sunscreen, and honestly, I was using so much that it was a little white on our skins but our photos from the beach look pretty good.

But, it’s sticky.  Sand stuck to it non-stop and that was not fun.  It was hard to change our clothes after a day at the beach, and reapplying sticky sunscreen over top of sand and more sticky sunscreen was super annoying.  Just saying.  It would be great for a day on the patio, but maybe not for the beach.

Available online: $49.
