Maskne Solutions and Skincare Routines

My personal routine focusses on brightening and balancing because I’ve always had oily skin, so there are some ingredients that I like to incorporate into my routine. AT night time, I really focus on taking care of that barrier and pampering my skin a bit more.

Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil

Olaplex is one of those brands that I really love and whose products I really believe in. The technology they’ve found has been proven to actually fix hair that has been damaged because of colour and bleaching. This is a very specific kind of damage, so if you’ve damaged your hair in another way (straightening, diet, etc.) then this won’t fix that.

That being said, I am less than impressed with this Olaplex Bonding oil. I wanted it to feel rich and nourishing but it really felt like a dry oil to me. I console myself with knowing that at least it’s still got the Olaplex technology behind it so it should be doing my hair some good when I use it.

Olaplex saw my insta post and responded defending their product – again they pointed to their use of their own technology in the oil, which has been proven to help hair. My issue is that it doesn’t feel nourishing – I’m sure that it’s working but the fix is incremental whereas the feel of the hair is immediate, so I’m going to stand by my review.

I love Olaplex Number 3 and I love Number 6 which is a leave-in conditioner.

3 Favourite Cleansers

3 new cleansers I’ve added to my routine.

Altilis Beauty cleanser uses an extract from Breadfruit that has great antioxidant capabilities.  This is the most gentle of the bunch, and it’s not great for taking off makeup.  I use it on my face after I work out, when there’s just sweat to take off.

The Zero Beauty Face Wash is my favourite because of its slippery texture. You can find the brand at Shoppers Drug Mart.  This face wash really reminds me of the Fresh Beauty because it’s gentle on your skin.  I reach for this morning and nice, and it’s such a pleasure to use.  Did I say I love it? I do love it.  $26.99.

Aveeno Positively Radiant cleanser foams but isn’t drying. It’s the best for all occasions, and it takes off makeup really well too, and it is very affordable $8.97 online.

Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Mask

Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil is my favourite line from Bumble and Bumble.  It is incredibly hydrating and moisturizing and smells really good too. Now there’s a new mask that’s part of the line as well.

 

What I love about the Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil mask is that it’s rich and hydrating without being heavy or greasy. You apply this on wet hair after you wash it, and then rinse it out after 5 minutes. It’s nice and thick so it doesn’t drip out while you’re still in the shower.

Real Techniques Miracle Powder Sponge

If you’re like me and you love to use powder – powder foundation, bronzer, blush – then you’ve got to try this Real Techniques Miracle Powder Brush. It’s a little fuzzy so it holds on to powder and helps it blend into your skin.  You would wet this sponge just like any other sponge, and you can use it for liquid and for powder.

It’s pretty amazing and you gotta try it to believe it.

Happy Saturday, y’all!  Here are some books I’ve enjoyed lately, and I thought I would share.  I used to do book reviews on here all the time and I don’t know why I stopped.  I still read…

  1. Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng.

    This book tackles privilege and motherhood in a story that keeps you engaged every step of the way.
  2. Atomic Habits by James Clear.

    Truthfully, I’m not done this book yet but I’m getting a lot out of it and I’m really interested in building good habits so that I get more done in a day.

3. Destination Wedding by Diksha Basu. 

Kind of like an Indian Crazy Rich Asians but not as good, it was still nice to read something set in modern day India with all its conventions and glam.

Check out the lovely glimmer that is in the Neutrogena Bright Boost Gel Cream.  This is a light gel lotion for your face that absorbs easily but gives you a tiny bit of polish because of the warm shimmer.

Add even more glow with the illuminating serum which feels more like a dry oil on your face but is meant to be used under the cream.

I  just love how light and luscious this gel is.  It looks and feels amazing.

Live Clean Intense Moisture Lotion

Live Clean now has body lotion in these huge bottle and I’m a fan.  I have the unfragranced version sitting on my desk and I’m using it after I wash or sanitize my hands.  Lets see how long it lasts.

Treating Cracked Winter Lips with Carmex

Carmex lip balm was introduced to me back in high school by a friend that had severely dry skin as a result of taking Accutane. She swore by Carmex to keep her lips moisturized, and I can see why.

My lips have been really chapped because of the winter-induced dryness and the only thing that’s kept them hydrated is the little red-and-yellow magic wand I keep close at all times – I’m addicted to my Carmex lip balm.

It goes on a tad tingly, but it works instantly to make my lips smooth and moisturized. I like to apply it over a lip tint, but it works just as well under a lipstick. It has a medicine-y smell (like menthol and Chapstik), but that’s worth the compromise because it works!

All in all, Carmex lip balm is a product that has staying power, both on the shelves and on my lips.
