Kerastase L’Incroyable Blowdry Miracle Reshapable Heat Lotion Review

Being quarantined gave me a chance to take out all my hair products and try them again, and that’s how I took out the Kerastase L’Incroyable Blowdry Miracle Reshapable Heat Lotion. This is a heat protectant cream that is meant to help you blow dry your hair.

I’ve used it on my curly, frizzy hair, and I find that the cream gives you enough slip that your brush just glides through your hair, but it doesn’t add any weight to it. That said, this lotion is light and because I have hair that’s a bit dry and frizzy, I found that it wasn’t enough frizz control for me. It would be a great cream for people who have fine hair with not too much frizz. It’s great as a heat protectant and will prevent damage happening to your hair.

$44 at salons, Sephora, and online.

Bio Sculpture Vintage Poetry Nail Polish Collection

This is the prettiest collection of nail polishes, and if you’re interested in finding them, you can go to the Bio Sculpture website and fill out a form to find a salon near you.

Here’s the whole range of colours:

They are all so good and just the right shades for this season.  FYI, if you go on TikTok even for 5 minutes, you’ll run into a video where some big name is wearing this exact shade of blue.  This is called Blue Balad – it is creamy, rich, and goes on so smoothly.

I really loved the colour, and then I used Sapphire Song to add some oomph, and that’s the glitter polish that you see above.  On my nails is just 1 coat.  2 coats will give you a fully covered glitter nail which is actually hard to find in a polish.

The pale pink is called Lyrics of a Lily and it’s also really pretty.  It looks just like your nails and I think it would look especially stunning on longer nails because it would make your fingers look so long. I loved this colour too!  It’s not trendy so it’s always going to be in rotation for me.

The reddish colour is Poetic Poise, and I thought it looks really sophisticated.  I wanted this to be peachy but I was pleasantly surprised that it went on a bit red, and I do like it on.  I think this would a great colour for going into fall.

Olive Garden (below) is also a great colour and very trendy – this sage green is the colour of my favourite t-shirt right now but it wasn’t my favourite colour of the collection.

This collection has everything and I love the quality of the polishes.  All the colours went on so smoothly which is nice to see.  It’s a thoughtfully formulated collection and line of products.

I hope you enjoyed these swatches and you like them as much as I do.

MAC Warm and Cozy

These collections went on sale on Boxing Day in 2009, and I just love the pictures of them so much.  These are timeless products too!  What do you think?  It is so hot outside, but I don’t mind looking at cozy images.

One of the collections that they released is the MAC Warm and Cozy collection. It’s a lot like the N collection that came out last year, because it has neutral and nude colours for all skin tones. I went crazy with the N collection and bought a ton of the 3N Lip Glass which I thought was the perfect colour nude lip ever. Now it’s repromoted and if you missed it the first time around, you can get it again.

Warm and Cozy had some different colours introduced, some repromotes, and a new all over body lotion as well as some essential oils for the face.

I checked out the Warm and Cozy collection at my local MAC counter, and there were no lemmings for me. I stocked up on 3N (first Lipglass in the image above), but other than that, the colours were all ones that I had seen before. I liked the image of the Spiced Tea lipstick (bottom right) but in person, it’s not quite as pink and as the name suggests, it’s more on the brown side. I do want to try the body lotion and will wait to see how that is on the skin.

Lanolips 101 Ointment

If you’re looking for an excellent lip balm, then look no further than the Lanolips 101 ointment. They say that it’s multipurpose, and it is. I use it on my cuticles and on my lips and in a pinch, I put it on my dry hands too after washing them.

With a lipbalm this good, you keep backups.

Have you tried the Lano 101 Ointment? It now comes in different colours too.

Available at Sephora.

Skin Actives Scientific Hair Serum

OMG, every time I post about this serum anywhere, lots of people ask me about it and I’m happy to be the guinea pig.  Does it work? That’s what everyone wants to know.

Well, it’s not making my hair grow faster, but it definitely feels thicker and it’s not getting thinner.  It feels nice to massage it on to my scalp and I know that it’s taking care of my hair too.

It’s not greasy at all which is what everyone is worrying about when they try out a scalp serum.

In terms of ingredients, this serum has it all: biotin, caffeine, antioxidants, and nutrients.  Unlike many scalp serums, it doesn’t have menthol or mint in it so it’s not going to tingle your scalp when you apply it and it’s more focussed on nourishing your scalp and helping your hair that way.

If you want to try this for yourself, you can get it from the Skin Actives Scientific website. $80.

Oh K! Hydrating Serum Mist Review

Ok, so if you use niacinamide on the regular and you want something affordable and accessible, you absolutely have to check out this Oh K! Hydrating Serum Mist at Shoppers Drug Mart. It has niacinamide as a key ingredient along with hyaluronic acid. Check out the ingredient list.

Niacinamide has great brightening properties and also helps balance oil production in the skin, so it’s especially amazing for the summer when your skin can definitely be more oily.  I love using it all year round, but I do avoid it when my skin is dry and sensitive.

I love that this serum comes in a spray bottle but the spray comes out a little clumpy because it’s a little thicker than water.  For that reason, I smooth it out on my skin with my fingertips, so it’s kind of the same as if it was in a dropper bottle or a pump.

It also has a bit of a scent – kind of like cedary perfume, and it smells so good but the scent does dissipate.

$14 at Shoppers Drug Mart.

La Mer The Hydrating Facial Mask

La Mer The Hydrating Facial 2009If you like all things luxury, then head over to the La Mer for your masks.

The Hydrating Facial mask and it’s a cloth mask that you lay on your face for about 10 minutes. The mask is soaked in a rich hydrating cream that’s not oily or greasy but that packs a punch when it comes to moisturizing skin. After 10 minutes, remove the mask and massage the remainder of the cream on to your skin.

I used this mask once and noticed a difference right away especially on the skin under my eyes. It was smooth and soft instead of being slightly dry. Pick up The Hydrating Facial at Holt Renfrew in Canada. Retail price is $330 for 6 treatments. Also available online.

Rose Notes

I would have to say that my most favourite floral fragrance note is that of the Rose. I know that it reminds some people of grandmothers, or of a stuffier era, but to me it’s timeless and beautiful. It always reminds me of pure luxury and nothing else. The scent of a rose should be fresh and actually it doesn’t need anything else to help it smell fantastic – which is why it’s always fun to compare different rose scents and see how they differ.

To me, the Jo Malone Roses is the last word in rose perfumes. It’s an old school musty yet fresh rose and it’s probably one of my favourites. Layer with other Jo Malone scents to make it your own or wear it by itself for an uncomplicated rose.

If you generally don’t like the smell of rose, I would still tell you to try these scents out because the rose often fades to the background after an hour of wear.

rose scents numbers

1. Beckham Signature Story for her. They are describing this as a fruity-floral fragrance, but keep in mind that the fruity notes dissipate very quickly! This scent is quite feminine and has an opening of peach and orange, a heart of rose and peony and dries down to a patchouli and musk combo. It smells rather like soap to me, and I think that’s because it’s so fresh yet dry at the same time. It’s a nice scent but also doesn’t over-dose on the rose note and is very fresh and clean. $50 ml retails for $57 and they are available at drug and department stores across Canada.

2. Stella Nude. On the other end of the spectrum is Stella Nude which came out late this summer. Unlike Chloe, Stella has lightened its classic rose perfume, and made it almost like a wisp of nicely scented air. It’s no wonder that this perfume comes also as a linen or room spray – it’s so fresh and light that you can use it on everything of the house, making it smell good but with subtlety.

3. Candied Rose by L’Occitane. L’Occitane has brought out this rose scent for its holiday collection and of course there’s the accompanying shower gel and such that will go with it. The name Candied Rose might evoke a scent that’s sugary or childish, but that isn’t the case here. Actually, this scent is floral but not quite rosy, so keep that in mind when you smell it. Like most of L’Occitane’s scents, this is light and fresh and feels like more of a body mist than anything else. I love the retro bottle this comes in (made of a solid glass, this deserves to be displayed on the vanity). 75ml comes for $48 and available at all L’Occitane stores this November.

4. FlowerbyKenzo Essentielle. Though not typically thought of as a rose fragrance, FlowerbyKenzo does have a Rose Damask note in it and is supremely constructed. This is another one of the iconic scents of our time, so if you haven’t sniffed it just to see what the fuss is about, you really should! Kenzo says that it has streamlined the fragrance and uses the best ingredients. The Rose and Jasmine notes are a little more prevalent as is the pink pepper. If you were a fan of the original FlowerbyKenzo, you will love this! It is stronger and better! This released in Canada this fall and is available at The Bay for $73 for 25 ml.

5. Idylle by Guerlain. Idylle is Guerlain’s newest launch and it’s much-talked about. The fragrance is a blend of rose and musk, and guess what? It smells a lot like Narciso Rodriguez (which of course, I own and do wear). The only difference with it is that Idylle is a little bit more fresh, and doesn’t seem to be as heavy or long-lasting as Narciso Rodriguez. I generally wear Narciso Rodriguez when it’s really cold outside because the scent is so warm, but Idylle to me is a lovely fall or spring scent. It doesn’t have as much sillage as the other perfume (that means that not everyone around you will be able to smell it) but that might be a good thing, since I could smell Narciso on anyone a mile away.

People also say that Idylle doesn’t smell like a typical Guerlain perfume, and I would agree. I usually find Guerlain scents too sweet for my tastes and that’s why I’ve never bought one even when I visited the Guerlain store in Toronto and smelled almost every scent in there. Idylle, to me, is better than Guerlain but I realize that I may be in the minority in saying this.

Beautiful perfume, I got mine at Murale!

6. Chloe Eau de Parfum Intense. I love it when a fragrance just gets better and better. This season, Chloe has come out with a lighter and more intense version of their original. I, of course, like the Intense version best. It magnifies the rose note while keeping the freshness and lightness in the fragrance. It’s also very reminiscent of the Chloe Lisy purse spray which came out last holiday season, so if you liked that, you can stock up on this!

The Intense version, along with an accompanying bath soap will be available only at Holt Renfrew in Canada.

The soap will retail for $55.00 (for 2) and the eau de parfum Intense is $100 for 50 ml. Totally worth it especially if you love those rose notes like I do.

7. Parisienne by YSL. Also brand new and with a lot of buzz this season is Parisienne by YSL. People are talking about it because it’s made by the same perfumer as Paris which is another iconic rose scent by YSL and is a sexier rose. If you’ve smelled Jo Malone’s Pomegranate Noir, think of that paired with a rose note and you’ve got Parisienne. There’s violet and a bit of patchouli in this which is perhaps which keeps the scent green. This is a scent you could wear a lot of and forget that it’s there – and I mean that in a good way. It’s not overwhelming and changes throughout the day so that you smell more than just the rose. Definitely one for keeps here as it’s unusual yet pretty.

What do you think of rose scents? Are you a lover or a hater? If you like them, do you have a favourite? I would love to know so that I can try it out for myself!

Lise Watier Hydrating Cooling Jelly

The Lise Watier Hydrating Cooling Jelly is a great moisturizer for the summer months when something cooling feels so nice and refreshing on your skin. This is not a heavy moisturizer so it would be good for someone who has combination or oily skin.  I like that it is light and absorbs into your skin almost instantly – glycerin, water, and silicone makes for a bit of hydration and a nice smooth feel.

The Hydrating Cooling Jelly is at Shoppers Drug Mart for $45.  It also works well with an oil on top!

Bumble and Bumble Invisible Oil Primer Review

Bumble and Bumble’s Invisible Oil collection is my favourite. The products all have a blend of oils in them and are really moisturizing for your hair. With the wide range of products that are available, there’s a product for every hair type. I love the shampoo and conditioner, the Hot Oil Concentrate (which would be great during a time that you’re at home for a while), and now this primer is my new fav.

Sometimes I like to post to the ingredients, and this is one of those times. None of the first few ingredients are silicone, which means that this is not a silicone-heavy product. It’s actually nourishing for your hair but doesn’t weigh it down.

Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Esters, Glycerin, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Behentrimonium Chloride, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Macadamia Integrifolia Seed Oil, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Gardenia Tahitensis (Tiare) Flower Extract, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hydrolyzed Corn Starch, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein Pg-Propyl Silanetriol, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Hydrolyzed Wheat Starch, Dimethicone, Sodium Hyaluronate, Glyceryl Stearate Se, Panthenyl Ethyl Ether, Sodium Pca, Ethylhexylglycerin, Dimethiconol, Pantethine, Potassium Stearate, Sodium Chloride, Citric Acid, Bht, Fragrance, Linalool, Hexyl Cinnamal, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Disodium Edta, Phenoxyethanol.

I love putting this in my hair to detangle it and it works on dry or wet hair. Even on dry hair, it doesn’t make your hair greasy or weigh it down.

This is technically a heat primer, but you can use it to air dry your hair too. It works well as a heat protectant, and really helps hair stay healthy. It has a soothing, warm tiare scent that lasts in your hair too.

This big bottle is available for $32. Online and at salons.
