Summer Skincare Routine Video

I added some new things to my skincare routine. I didn’t revamp the whole routine because it was going fine, but I definitely have added some things that are really working for my skin and I thought I would share them with you guys.

I’m trying the Differin Cream instead of the gel and I think that it’s great. It’s moisturizing instead of drying but it still works. I’m using it about 3-4 times a week. This is prescription-only so ask your doctor about that.

Also using Neostrata Correct lotion at night on the nights that I’m not using the Differin, and it’s also great. Loving it.

Sometimes I throw in the A313 pomade and it would be great for dry skin. You can only get it on Amazon because it’s from Europe. Here’s the link for that: A313. I went on to Amazon to get this link and my history told me that I first bought this in 2018! I can’t believe that I bought it so long ago and I’m still liking it! My most recent tube, I bought when I was actually in France and they had to go into the back room to get it.

Also, used Deciem 23% Vitamin C Suspension and it’s crazy tingling at first, and then your skin calms down and it’s fine.

Ren Skincare Overnight Glow Mask is amazing! Phyto-glygogen and Algae do a great job at brightening your skin.

Sunscreen right now is Avene Tinted Mineral Fluid.

Lise Watier’s Most Amazing Lip Product

Happy #InternationalLipstickDay!

This is makeup you need in your life: it’s Lise Watier’s #BaiserVelours.

Lise Watier Baiser Velours

These are lip creams that dry to a matte long-wearing finish, kind of like NYX’s Soft Matte Lip Creams but in a more elegant formulation because they’re much creamier to apply. The applicator for the Lise Watier Baiser Velours is also fine tipped to allow for precise application.

Although they apply super creamy, actually the lip creams dry matte so if you have flaky lips at all, they’re emphasized. Your best bet is to exfoliate first, and then apply the product. The lasting power is unreal. I got through breakfast, coffee, and then snack, and there was still lip colour on my lips. The reason for that is that the pigment is very intense so it does really stick to the lips.

$28 where Lise Watier products are sold. My favourite colour is Sweet Kiss – it’s the perfect neutral pink (kind of like Pink Plaid by MAC) and it goes from day to night in a flash.

CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser

If you have sensitive skin, or if you’re using anything that will “peel” or exfoliate your skin in any way, then it’s time to have a look at the kind of cleanser that you’re using on your skin.  Maybe you’ve had a time when your skin was just so irritated even though you were using everything that you always used anyway.  Maybe you suffer from periodic bouts of eczema or breakouts but skincare doesn’t seem to be the issue.  It could be that you’ve impaired your skin’s moisture barrier and you need to give it a break from harsh cleansers and other drying products.

That’s where cleansers from CeraVe come in – CeraVe has built a reputation on cleansers that are gentle but still work.  There won’t be excessively drying ingredients in them, and that’s why they’re perfect if you have sensitive skin and even if you don’t.

My favourite is the CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser.  Because I have oily skin, I’ve got an affinity to foaming cleansers.  They really take off any gunk and grim that could accumulate during the day and seem to leave my skin feeling fresh and clean.  CeraVe’s Foaming Facial Cleanser has a pump dispenser and a smooth gel texture.  It emulsifies quickly with water to create a slight lather, melts makeup off, but doesn’t leave a residue on your skin.  It’s suitable for all skin types, and it’s proof that good skincare products don’t have to cost a lot of money!   You can find CeraVe at the drugstore.

$17.99 at drugstores and mass merchandisers, or online.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist

I’ve never been so undecided about a sunscreen – I either love them or hate them, but this one really left me on the fence.

It’s not that there’s anything wrong with the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunscreen.  I have it in SPF 30 which is a perfectly adequate amount of protection for the daily.  I took this to the cottage with me – this picture was taken on the dock.

I love a spray sunscreen because they are so easy to reapply.  You can spray spray spray as much as you want and it takes just minutes.  Moreover the formula is like water, or oil, on your skin so it never feels heavy.  Neutrogena does recommend rubbing in the sunscreen after you spray it and when you do that, you can make sure that it goes everywhere, so I did that.

My only issue with the Ultra Sheer Body Mist is that I have no idea where I’m applying it.  And if it’s windy, the spray seems to be going everywhere.  So I apply and apply and hope that I’m doing a good job.  I feel like creams give me more control.

I will say that I found this super handy for quickly spraying on my feet, because I usually neglect them, and great for spraying on my kids.

This one bottle lasted me about a weekend.

Oh, and the can sprays upside down so that was handy.

$12.40 on Amazon.

3 Sunscreens Options for People Who are Tired of Sunscreen

Maybe you’re tired of me talking about sunscreen, but I think I’m almost done because I’ve tried so many awesome new formulas already this summer.  That being said, sometimes putting sunscreen on again and again is a pain, especially if you’re having what I like to call a “lazy day”.  So here are 3 options for those days:

  1. Laboratoire Dr. Renaud Loose Powder SPF 50 Sunscreen.  Come in Light and Dark colours –  I have the dark and it is quite sheer, so if you’re even a bit tan, go for this colour.  $57.96.

2. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Face mist sunscreen.  SPF 50.  You could spray this on top of makeup in theory, but it’s a bit greasy.  I just use it when I’m too lazy to use lotion sunscreen and I do love that it’s sheer. $13.37 at the drugstore.

3. Aveeno Sensitive Skin Mineral Sunscreen Stick.  This has a whitish cast, but that means that you can see it exactly where you’re putting it, and it’s actually sheer once you rub it in. $13.97, online and in drugstores.

New Vichy Ideal Sport Ultra-Light Refreshing Lotion SPF 60

If I had to take just 1 sunscreen on vacation, this would be it: Vichy Ideal Soleil Sport in SPF 60.

New sunscreen technology means that no longer are sunscreens sticky, greasy, or heavy on the skin.  Instead, they’re light and wearable, with the best formulas being suitable on the face or the body.

All that is definitely true of Vichy’s new Ideal Sport Ultra-Light Refreshing Lotion in SPF 60.  Formulated to be light and refreshing, with technology that works on wet or dry skin, it’s the sunscreen that’s perfect for every day use, but even more suitable for the times that you’re out and about.  It’s water and sweat resistant for up to 80 minutes, and because it works on wet skin too, you don’t have to dry off before applying it.  That being said, I did apply it to my wet skin after I got out of the lake, and I found that the water kind of diluted the sunscreen and then I couldn’t be sure that it was really protecting my skin. I recommend drying yourself off before reapplying, if you can.

There’s no white cast or residue and even when I use this sunscreen on my face, it sinks in easily and makeup goes on top without any issues.  If you’re looking for skin protection that’s all-encompassing and easy to wear, then this is a fantastic option.

Also, the Canadian and European versions of Vichy sunscreens contain Mexoryl XL, which is an ingredient that helps the sunscreen be more photostable.  That means that it’s less likely to disintegrate in the sun.

Pick this up online or in drug stores.

$29.95.

Pantene Nutrient Blends Deep Detox And Renew Shampoo and Conditioner

Loving the whole Pantene Nutrient Blends collection, but I really love the Deep Detox and Renew collection which has detoxifying charcoal with helps get your hair super clean. I kind of even like this shampoo and conditioner better than the Moisture Renew one with Rose Water. I loved the scent of that one but this one cleans your hair a bit better and I need that in my life. Or I mean that my hair does.

The scent of this collection is fresh and almost minty and clean. There’s a minute amount of charcoal in the shampoo and conditioner and I appreciate that the conditioner is silicone-free because it doesn’t weigh down my hair at all.

This is definitely one of my favourite collections I’ve tried this year. Find it at your drugstore. $10.99 each.

Vasanti Brighten Up! Review

Alright my beauties, if you’re from Toronto, then you are no doubt familiar with Vasanti Cosmetics.  It’s a line of high quality makeup that caters specifically to South Asian women.  That means that their foundation shades are golden, and they carry lots of brightly coloured blushes, shadows, and lipsticks so that they show up on all skin colours!

But they also have skincare!

The Brighten Up! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator is similar to the Kate Somerville Exfolikate except way more gentle, so those of you who have sensitive skin can use it!

The basis is the same – an acidic cream that has scrubby bits in it so that you get rid of old skin and let the enzymes penetrate so that you help more exfoliation along.  When I used it, I felt just a tiny bit of tingling, but since I wasn’t leaving this on my skin, I wasn’t too concerned.  I just washed it off, and was left with really smooth and clear skin.  The enzymes in this give it a leg up on most other exfoliators, and you’ll find that it works much better than any of those.

You can purchase this online for $34 or at some Shoppers Drug Mart locations!

Favourite Sunscreens for Your Face

Just some of my favs.

Neutrogena_Ultra_Sheer_waterlight

1. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Water-Light Daily Face Sunscreen SPF 60. ($15) This sunscreen has an extremely watery and light feel that makes it melt into skin and have an almost-matte finish. It’s perfect under makeup, on its own, and for all parts of your body, even though the small bottle means that it’s specifically formulated for use on your face.

lancaster sun beauty care

2. Lancaster Sun Beauty Care SPF 30. This is one of the few sunscreens that the men in our lives love too. Colorless, it absorbs into your skin and provides invisible protection.

la roche posay ultra fluid sunscreen3. La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra Fluid Lotion.  We love the watery sunscreens because they go on so easily.  This one blends into skin super quick.

 vichy ultra-fluid sunscreen

4.  Vichy Capital Soleil Ultra-Fluid Sun Protection.  This formula is fast-drying which means that it’s probably the quickest and easiest to put on from all the ones we’ve reviewed.

We’re going to be using sunscreen all year round, so stay tuned for more sunscreen reviews.

Also check out last year’s list of our sunscreen reviews – some of them are still going strong!

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Face Sunscreen SPF 60 Review

You can see from the picture that I’ve used this sunscreen a lot – in fact, this bottle is almost done.  This Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Face sunscreen in SPF 60 sunscreen gives you really excellent sun protection – but it’s very thick and creamy so be prepared to really have it on your skin.  You might not feel like wearing this one everyday – they say that it’s non-greasy, but I wouldn’t call it matte.  It doesn’t look greasy, but it definitely feels very creamy.  I don’t love it… but I don’t hate it either!  I reach for this one when I know I’m going to have a long day in the sun!

It’s a very long-wearing sunscreen that doesn’t disappear easily – it also comes in an SPF 45, and SPF 100+ version (or I’ve seen it as SPF 110), and if you want something a bit lighter but that still wears well, then the SPF 30 is for you.  If you are more no-nonsense about sunscreen, then the SPF 60 or 110 is better.

You can get it online for $13.97 – in fact, this is a very easy to find sunscreen and you can often find it on sale!
