Nautica Oceans

Nautica Oceans launched in 2009 is the name of the newest scent for Nautica, and is interesting not because of it’s light fresh Cool Water-like smell.  No, this scent is interesting because it is based in water not alcohol. The scent is completely biodegradable which means that it’s good for the environment, and because it’s not alcohol based, it won’t be drying out your skin where you apply it.

Interestingly, the biodegradable element doesn’t mean that the scent won’t last on your skin – it will and moreover, it retains its true nature all the way throughout.  It has citrus notes that are slightly sweet and if you’re a lover of something fresh, this one is for you.

Oceans is on shelves now.

Interestingly, I don’t normally find perfume to be that drying on my skin because I don’t use that much of it.  I prefer to even spray it on my clothes, or into my hair.  Some people really don’t like the alcohol smell that perfumes sometimes give off, but perfume oils are also a great option if you don’t like alcohol.

Dior Addict Lip Polish

Just thought this was the prettiest picture from Dior in 2009, so I thought I would repost.

The Dior Addict Lip Polish was new this summer and was formulated after makeup artists from fashion weeks specified how they wanted lips to look. They would prep lips with vaseline to make them super-smooth and then apply a light layer of lip colour on them.

Lip Polish was created to mimic that effect. This is the polish that you use when you want pretty natural looking lips. It instantly fills in lines, moisturizes, and creates a smoothing effect on the tops of your lips.

You can pick this up at Dior counters everywhere.

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Concealer

You might have guessed this from my videos lately, but this has been my go-to foundation and concealer duo lately. The @armanibeauty Luminous Silk Foundation is an old favourite, and now I have it in a warm colour that’s perfect for my skin tone with a coordinating concealer.

I find that the concealer is a little bit lighter than the foundation, so using the two together works well because you can use the concealer under your eyes to add some brightness.  The concealer is made specifically for using under your eyes. It’s made with technology that doesn’t crease once it sets, and is meant to correct and highlight.  I can attest to this because that’s what I see when I use it myself.  It also has caffeine in it which is great for reducing puffiness, and vitamin E and glycerin take care of that delicate under eye area.

The finish is pearlescent so your skin looks glowy without being shimmery.

What I love about the Luminous Silk foundation is that it’s blendable and liquidy, and one pump gives me enough coverage on my whole face.  I tap it into the areas that need most coverage, and then blend it all in.  Because of how pigmented it is, I prefer to apply this with a foundation brush and then I don’t end up with product all over my hands.

Both the foundation and the concealer are medium coverage, but you could definitely layer product to get more coverage, or you could sheer it out by mixing with your sunscreen or moisturizer.  I’ve tried the foundation and concealer over primer, moisturizer, and sunscreen, and I love it, but I do notice that it doesn’t last the whole day.  I’ve had to cover a little bit more after my micro-needling treatment and I realize that where I’m trying to cover some redness, the foundation and concealer have worn off by evening time, and if I want, I have to pat some more on.

But, on a more regular basis, this isn’t really a worry or problem.  I would be able to get through the whole day with this amount of foundation.

You can find both of these at the Armani counter or at Sephora.

$49 for the Luminous Silk Concealer, and $80 for the foundation.  I wear both in 6.5.

Deciem Niod CAIL Review

It’s time for a review of Deciem CAIL which is part of their NIOD line of products. This product came out back in October, and I was so interested in trying it.

The instructions are to use it when you’re not using anything else. No acids and retinols at the same time as this. You can use this in the morning and a retinol or acid at night time, but don’t layer the products.

You can see that the product has a gorgeous blue colour – that’s from the copper peptides that are in this product.  This is basically the copper peptides in a moisturizing squalane and glycerin mixture. Here are the ingredients:

Squalane, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Aqua (Water), Glycerin, Hydrogenated Starch Hydrolysate, Glycolipids, Sucrose Laurate, Propanediol, Tripeptide-1 (Palmitoyl) Copper, Hydroxymethoxyphenyl Propylmethylmethoxybenzofuran, Vetiveria Zizanoides Root Extract, Aphanizomenon Flos-aquae Extract, Sucrose Stearate, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Phenoxyethanol.

Because of the moisturizing mixture, it feels so comfortable on your skin, so I actually love using it when I’m on a regimen of retinol. Retinol is making my skin peel so much, so using CAIL in the morning after using a retinol at night helps get rid of a dry tight feeling on my skin.

I use a hyaluronic acid first, then this, and then I apply sunscreen or a bb cream or a foundation. I’m finding that layering all these is working for my skin. When my skin is dry, it just soaks up the CAIL, and if it doesn’t need it, then I just spend a bit of time massaging it in.

You can get this online for $90.

Neutrogena Bright Boost Moisturizer SPF 30 Review

I’m usually not a huge fan of shimmer in my skincare, but this Neutrogena Bright Boost Moisturizer SPF 30 is great.  I love it.  I’m using it on my face, my neck, my chest, and my arms and yes, it is a bit shimmery.

But take a look at the second and third pictures – you can see the shimmer on my hands, but the only way that I could capture this on my hands was to stand directly under an indoor light.  I actually couldn’t see it in natural light.

This also makes a great base under makeup – it’s moisturizing but I found it to be moisturizing for a sunscreen, if you know what I mean.  If you have dry skin, you will need a real moisturizer or a serum.  If you have oily skin, then you’ll find that this feels like a typical sunscreen.  If you want matte skin then this is not for you.

Because it is a chemical sunscreen, it is totally sheer other than the shimmer in it and it really reminded me of the Neutrogena Water-Light sunscreen because it has a light liquid texture. I loved the Water-Light sunscreen, and I’ve gone through many bottles of it, so this one is a close second but shimmery and a little bit heavier.

$31.99 at drugstores or online.

Moroccanoil Body Care Products

…and there are some that are pretty fantastic.

What I love about the products is that they’re all rich in Argan Oil, have the classic Moroccanoil scent, and are basic yet luxurious at the same time.

Moroccanoil Body Intense Hydrating Treatment
Available only at high end spas (where you can also experience the Moroccanoil treatments), if there’s one product to pick up it’s the Intense Hydrating Treatment. This luxe blend of glycerine, Chamomile water, and oils is just what’s needed for extra dry skin that needs serious TLC.

In my case, that would be my hands which have taken a beating from constant washing – I used the treatment every chance I got and after a week I saw that my hangnails were completely gone.

The body treatment is $38.

Sothy’s Illuminator for the Summer

This beautiful highlighter is from the Sothy’s summer 2020 collection.  It’s a gorgeous rose-gold colour which works well as a highlight, but also on your collarbones, and I use my fingers and wear it as an eyeshadow too.

This colour is called 20 Bronze Sumatra.  It’s really a high-end highlighter because it’s so tightly packed so it’s easy to get just a tiny amount to use as a highlighter.  You can see where it’s really packed down because that’s where I used my finger to pick up product.

You can find Sothy’s exclusively in beauty institutes and spas.

Essence Cosmetics Bye Bye Panda Eyes Mascara Video

Essence Cosmetics makes my favourite mascara but even I have to admit that it’s a bit smudgy.  But now they’ve got a tubing mascara that’s new for the summer.  It doesn’t have a deep dark inkiness that my favourite mascaras have, but it stays put and volumizes my lashes so I like it.

Watch the video and let me know what you think!  What are your favourite mascaras right now?

Powder Sunscreen Review

So many people ask me if Powder Sunscreens work and the research says that they do. They’re great for applying on top of makeup because they up the sunscreen protection factor without disturbing your foundation.

I got my hands on Laboratoire Dr. Renaud Loose Powder SPF 50 in the dark colour and I’ve had it with the sunscreen lineup on my dresser so that I can try it when I’m getting ready to go outside.  And you know what?  This is the sunscreen that I reach for the least.  Not because it doesn’t work.  Not because I don’t like it.  It’s because I can’t be sure of the coverage that I’m getting when I apply this. It goes on totally sheer and weightless and it’s unlike anything that I’ve used before.

When I apply a cream, you know exactly where you’re putting it – not that I don’t still miss spots – but I just feel more secure when I use a cream sunscreen.

That being said, I’ve applied this Dr. Renaud Loose Powder sunscreen on a bare face, and totally forgot that I had it on because I couldn’t see it on my skin.  When I went to wipe my face later in the day, I was surprised at the brown powder on my tissue because I could have sworn I didn’t put makeup on that day.  But it was this sunscreen, so I did get adequate coverage.

I’m going to be using this all summer – it’s getting the stamp of approval even though I didn’t use it that much so far.

It comes in 2 colours: light and dark.  You can get it online for $57.96.
