Guerlain Eyebrow Kit

This is what I’m using to do my eyebrows right now. Take an eyebrow brush, dip into the powder, and fill in where your hairs are sparse. So easy to do and still looks natural. Even though I have really dark hair, I don’t use the darkest colour in this kit – it’s just too much – and so I use the second darkest colour. That would be my suggestion, unless you really love a dramatic brow or you have sparse hairs to begin with.
Honestly, I’m not filling in my brows much these days, but this is my go-to if I have to be on camera, because for some reason, being on camera just washes your brows our.

$64 at The Bay. It only comes in 1 colour, which is universal.  You can see that I haven’t used the highlighter colour because it’s just too pink and not for me.

Lancome Magnifique

I loved this perfume, but I don’t know if I still have it.  Need to declutter my perfume collection!

Take a look:

The beautiful bottle that you see below is for Lancome’s fragrance, Magnifique. The bottle itself is heavy glass that really does have connotations of class and luxury and the brew contained therein lives up to its name!
Magnifique is a gorgeous blend that has the rose as its star ingredient which is fitting because the rose is Lancome’s signature flower. The rose in this one is sweeter thanks to the addition of saffron, but the fragrance remains a great one for the fall because of a smoky essence thanks to the Nagarmota, an Indian wood that makes this an unusual fragrance.

The scent’s face is Anne Hathaway, who was lovely in Devil Wears Prada. Ever since I saw that movie, I couldn’t think about Paris without thinking about her, and it seems that I’m not the only one.

Check out the advertising image with Ms. Hathaway and the accompanying commercials you’ll be seeing on television and on the Internet will take place on a dark Parisian night.

It’s a sweet rosy floral that reminds me of a rose-flavoured drink that I had a long time ago, but it’s not candy-sweet or old-lady floral. At the same time, I love it, my mother loves it, and anyone who smells me loves it too!

The Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid Empty Video

I loved using this Hyaluronic Acid which The Inkey List calls an oil, but it doesn’t feel like an oil. Apply it first and then follow with your other skincare. It sinks into your skin and doesn’t pill or feel uncomfortable.

Available at Shoppers Drug Mart for $7.99.

Tatcha Skincare Reviews

Tatcha is one of those beauty brands that has been around for a while, but kind of took 2019 by storm.  I finally tried a few of their products and the favourite is definitely the Kissu lip mask.  I’m using that everyday while I use the other products intermittently.

  1. Tatcha The Kissu Lip Mask.  Comes with its own applicator.
  2. Tatcha Silk Peony Melting Eye Cream.  The only eye cream that I ever recommend.

Which Tatcha products should I try next?

Rose Romance from MAC

The prettiest blush ever… Gotta dig it out and find it.

MAC Cosmetics’ new line is called Rose Romance and it’s pretty great. It’s a collection of pink glosses, lipsticks, and face products that all go together.  Many of the shades, especially the lipstick ones are for people who are more fare, but there are some picks that would look good on lots of people.

I have two favourites from this line. The first is the Rose Romance compact which is amazing. It is a pretty mauve pink colour and a peachy shade as well. The best thing about the compact (and you know how I appreciate pretty compacts), is that it has a rose design built into the powder. It’s not that there’s a rose printed on it – it’s that the entire powder is formed into petals so that the design is 3-D. Very pretty.

The other product that you must try from this collection is their See-Thru Lip Color. It pretty much blows every single lipstain out of the water because it’s a gel texture that’s really easy to apply and then layer if need be. There’s a sheer red colour, and then a colour that looks very dark in the tube, but actually wears like a pretty raspberry or a dark burgundy after 4 coats. You can do so many looks with the lipstains and I like to put some on every morning and then layer gloss depending on my mood. It just makes my lips darker and more pigmented and they just look naturally pretty. I am using mine so much that I’m tempted to stock up on some backeup tubes!

Have you noticed the deals that are coming up right now? Either there are favourite products in larger sizes, or there is a better price. If you use a BeautyBlender on a regular basis, then you might want to pick up the Rosie Posie Essentials set.

Canadian Beauty Brands

How To Support The Economy in Your Own Backyard.

Canadian beauty products.  You’d think I’d have a list of this already but here we are.  If you want to shop Canadian, keep scrolling.

When the pandemic was just starting – it was in China and that seemed so far away – I kept wondering about our supply of stuff and how much of it comes from China.  If they had the virus, wouldn’t it be possible that we’d get it in clothes or some other such thing?  Would we have to shop Canadian?

And now it’s here, and we’re all at home, and daily there seems to be a notice of businesses that are closing or will close because they can’t sustain being open with no foot traffic.  Even if they do online sales, it seems like people are buying less simply because of the unemployment rate. And then do we want to buy Canadian because we’re then supporting our neighbors?

All the travel and shipping we took for granted… it might be over.  Do we want to shop Canadian now?

Just because a company is Canadian doesn’t mean that they’re sourcing ingredients in Canada, or that they’re even manufacturing here.  But I’ll let you decide what you want to buy.  I like to eat local but I also like oranges and they don’t grow here so… I’m not giving up oranges.

Here’s a list of Canadian companies whose products I’ve tried, so that you can buy Canadian if you want.

  1. Deciem.  They are the company that launched The Ordinary.  If you like Argan and Marula oil, it doesn’t grow here either, but you can get it for a reasonable price from Deciem.
  2. Raincry.  Professionally formulated shampoos and conditoners available at Nordstrom and The Bay.  Their formulas are wonderful.

3. Woodlot.  Beautiful candles and scented goods.

4. CoverFX.  Their makeup is on sale at Sephora right now.

5. Reversa. Great skincare.

6. Saje Wellness.  I’m sad that I can’t go to their stores right now.  They always offered a great sensory experience.

7. Bite Beauty.  I loved that their lip balms taste so good and are food grade because my kids eat them.  Oh well.

8. Lise Watier.  High end drugstore.  Is that a thing?

9. Stellar.  It’s by Monica Deol.

10. Graydon skincare.  Clean beauty out of Toronto.

11. Les Essentiels by The Hudson’s Bay.

12. Consonant Skincare.

13. Veriphy Skincare.  Made by scientists out of Guelph, Ontario.

14. Basd Body Care.

15. Province Apothecary.  Smells so good.

16. Marc Anthony Haircare.  One of my favourite hair care lines and available at the drugstore.

17. Cake Beauty.  They had dry shampoo before it was trendy and they made it smell like cake.

18.Marcelle.

19. Live Clean.  I’ve used a ton of their products and I love them.

20. Rocky Mountain Soap Company.  Out of Canmore, Alberta.  I had the pleasure of meeting the owner and talking product formula and sunscreen with her is a highlight of me running this blog.

21. Indeed Labs.  Based out of Toronto, this company is a bit like The Inkey List.  They make products that work but offer them at an affordable price.

Notorious by Ralph Lauren

Ralph Lauren has a new perfume out called Notorious. This one takes a departure from other Ralph Lauren fragrances in that it’s an oriental.

When you take a sniff of the Ralph Lauren Notorious juice straight out of the bottle, you’ll essentially smell the dry-down of the final product. Though the opening is an almost citronella-like citrus, the dry-down is a powdery spicy blend of pepper, patchouli, and vanilla.

I liked this but I know that the heavy blend won’t be for everyone. One can take heart in that it’s consistent and what you first smell is pretty much what you’ll have throughout the day.

I also liked Ralph Wild, and Ralph Lauren Blue, while Romance was the first fragrance I ever owned.

Notorious is unique – have you smelled it? It’s discontinued now, but you can find a lot of old scents on discount fragrance sites.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream

by Kyle Gordon
Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream is a must. The ultimate multi-tasker, this wonder cream works as a hand cream, face cream, lip balm and for soothing chapped elbows and feet. Brilliant!

Has anyone else tried this?  It used to be a mainstay, but I haven’t used it for a while.

Eye and Lip Palettes from Dior Just In Time for The Holidays!

Some makeup eye candy thanks to Dior on this weekend. I love these palettes but I have to admit that I like applying lipstick straight from a bullet instead of dipping into a palette. I’m going to have to dig these out and try them on again. Dior knows how to make luxury eye and lip products that lots of people love. Are you a fan of Dior makeup? I really love the nail polishes.

Love these Holiday palettes from Dior because they come in shades that everyone can use! The eye palette is made up of taupy-grey and light pink with a colour for lining and one for highlighting. The lip palette is similarly great because it gives you options: those who love neutral or red lips are not left out of the game, which means that not only are these palettes great for gift-giving, they are great for traveling as well! Anyone going on vacay anytime soon? These two Dior lovelies are all you need.
