Estee Lauder Compacts

Every year, Estee Lauder releases a set of collectible compacts. No compact is like any other and once they sell out of it, they won’t be releasing the same one again. These compacts are jeweled with Austrian crystals, and are either filled with a solid perfume or a pressed powder (of which one can also purchase refills).

The compacts are always beautiful to be sure, but I had no idea that people collect them with such passion. I met a woman who has almost every compact ever released and has set them up in a very authentic-looking Estee Lauder display case in her home, complete with glass shelves, and museum-style lighting. Another woman keeps them locked up in a cupboard and only shows them to those friends that appreciate fine workmanship.

OPI Nutcracker Collection

OPI Nutcracker is from last January, but you can still find these colours.  

My favourite colour out of this whole collection has to be Lavendare to Find Courage.  It’s a pretty lavender-pink that feels very trendy and will be taking me through the whole year.  Yes, you’ll be seeing me wear this in tons of product pictures. It is super dark around here, so I took a picture in my car on the way home from work.  

Also a favourite: March in Uniform.

It’s the perfect winter blue that’s not too dark.  It feels very wintery to me.

All of the above are also favourites.  The light blue is Dreams Need Clara-fication, the dark blue is still March in Uniform, the gold is Dazzling Dew Drop, the silver is Tinker, Thinker Winker, which is actually a holographic silver which I will show you later, and the whitish is Dancing Keeps me On My Toes.

Oh, and before I forget, there are some glitter shades too!  I love to wear them but I hate to take them off.  The silver is Dreams on a Silver Platter, the gold is Gold Key to the Kingdom, and the rose gold is I Pull the Strings.

Here’s I Pull the Strings on a bare nail. I put 2 coats because I wanted a lot of glitter.  It looks pretty and it lasted a very long time.

Tom Ford Traceless Perfecting Foundation SPF 15 Review

I love foundations that have SPF in them – I’ve found that if you apply enough, you get decent coverage and protection against the sun. The Tom Ford Traceless Foundation is a medium-full coverage foundation that really goes on nicely and covers well. I found that it kind of looked a bit much when I started to apply it, but with foundations that have lots of coverage, I find that if I stick to applying it to the center of my face and work my way out, I can get a more natural finish.

This foundation really sticks to your skin and it lasted all night on my oily skin. I liked that it ended up looking natural in the end, and I really like the airless pump because you know that you’re going to get every last drop of foundation out of the bottle and it’s not going to oxidize.

Ultimately, this isn’t a foundation that I reach for, because I like the sheer or light coverage foundation.

Ojon Tawaka Ball

Sometimes I like to look at beauty products that were launched a long time ago and reminisce. Ojon was a brand that came out in the 2000’s and focused on an oil found in the Amazon. They had hair products that were moisturizing and so nice for your hair, but now they are no longer! The brand got bought out by Estee Lauder, and then went into oblivion. But they came out with this cool exfoliator that I really enjoyed.

I think it’s pretty clear that I have an intense love of exfoliators. I use them year-round and simply adore them because they really help your skin look its best. The greatest thing is that they’re usually exfoliating which means that you save a step when it comes to getting ready.My latest love is Ojon’s Tawaka “The Ball” which smells and indeed looks like a ball of delicious chocolate.

Hold the ball under warm running water and the chocolaty-substance starts to melt and you can rub it all over your body. Under the smooth exterior lies lots of little scrubby bits that remind me of coffee grounds and they have the perfect amount of exfoliating power. The exfoliating doesn’t hurt and it doesn’t leave a residue. Plus, the circular motion of rubbing is said to increase circulation and the substance has antioxidant properties with is just a bonus.

Does anyone else remember Ojon?
