Pureology Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner

There’s nothing that beats a salon shampoo, eh? Somehow it makes your hair glisten like it never has before, and you know that there’s no way you can get that same effect at home. Every time that I’ve gone to a salon and had this happen to me, it’s been because they use Pureology Shampoo and Conditioner, and so that’s what I’m using right now also.
I’ve been using the shampoo and conditioner for a couple of weeks now, and I’ve completely run out of the conditioner so I know I can give a real report. After using the system, my hair is hydrated and really shiny. I even got a comment on how shiny it is which was nice. I found the conditioner to be thick and it really didn’t leave any kind of residue in my hair – I guess that’s why it was so shiny! I also noticed that when I used the shampoo none of my hair colour washed out, so if you regularly dye your hair, this would be a good choice.

I Heart Dermalogica

It’s got to be said – I’m a huge fan of Dermalogica. They have a very straight-forward approach to skin care and can not only help you with any skin problems that you might be having, but can also help your skin look its best at all times. There’s treatment paired with products that you use at home to maintain your Dermalogica glow.

I’ve had a Dermalogica facial and it was a great experience. I went through their face mapping procedure and you know what? It is right on the money. The skin care expert doing the face mapping, took one look at my reddened cheeks and asked me if I have a problem with congestion, and I did! She also saw that I had dry but oily skin and then went on to suggest products for my condition.

The facial that I went on to receive was second to none. It was so relaxing that I pretty much dozed off for part of it, and when I was done, I had clearer skin than I had seen in a long time.

I really cannot say enough good things about my Dermalogica experience. If you want to find a centre near you, Dermalogica has a handy locating system on their home page. I encourage you to find one near you and experience Dermalogica for yourself. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Get Rid of Acne Scarring

In one of the comments on cosmetic surgery, a reader mentioned that the only thing that she wants to look into for herself is a way to get rid of her acne scars.

Acne scarring is something that affects a lot of people and the pits that are left on skin can leave a mark self-esteem. But it’s not something that you have to live with forever.

There’s a laser treatment called Profractional Laser Resurfacing and it is amazing. It takes off the top layers of your skin so that the pitting and extreme scarring that are there actually disappear. With varying levels of treatment that are available, it’s possible for people to either get a series of gentle treatments or fewer harsher treatments that have more downtime. They’re customized depending on what the patient actually needs and how much downtime they’re able to incorporate into their schedule.

The treatment can remove fine lines, wrinkles, pock marks, and other scarring. More and more, it seems like there’s a procedure to fix everything, and if there’s something about your skin that really bothers you, you should check out the options available to fix it. You might be surprised at how easy a treatment can be or that there are solutions out there.

Kevin Murphy Hair.Resort

I have a friend who used to rave about Kevin Murphy Hair.Resort.  This is a shimmery gel that’s meant to give you beachy waves, and the story is that Kevin was working on a photoshoot where he needed to create some beach hair.  He mixed together gel, styling cream, and eyeshadow to give hair a lived in, shimmery look.

That’s how Hair.Resort was born.  It is a shimmery gel that really works to define hair and add a bit of crunch to it.  It’s best used on damp hair that’s almost dry – you can then diffuse your hair or airdry it so that waves are defined but not frizzy.

I found that this added more crunch to my hair than I like, so I’m not reaching for it a lot.  I think there are other beach products on the market that don’t give crunchy hair, and this feels a little old-school to me.

Available in salons.

Lanolips Rose Gold 101 Ointment

I first tried the Lano 101 Ointment when I got it as part of a gift set earlier this year and I really liked it.  It’s emollient the way that petroleum jelly is, but moisturizing and really comforting too.  And now the 101 Ointment is available in a beautiful Rose Gold colour that brings a generous flush to the lips.

The original ointment is multi-purpose but I find that this Rose Gold one is so pigmented that I wouldn’t want to use it on my elbows or cuticles… the colour will just get everywhere.  I also wouldn’t use this as a cheek tint because it’s a little greasy.

You need a tiny tiny amount per use, so the tube is going to last a long time – which is pretty much true for a lot of lip balms but especially this one.

Available at Sephora. $23.

Marc Anthony Coconut Oil Detangling Spray

People ask me what I use to detangle my kids’ long hair, and I always do use a light spritz of some kind of detangling spray.  Children’s hair isn’t that frizzy so I find that I can just spray the detangler right where the knots are, and it kind of makes the hair slippery enough that the knots come out easily.

Right now I’m using this Marc Anthony Coconut Oil Detangling Spray.  It actually has enough coconut oil in it that it kind of firms up when the weather gets colder, but I find that I can still use the spray well enough.  It takes out tangles quickly and is heavier than your usual detanglers so a little goes a long way.

It’s part of the Marc Anthony Coconut Oil collection which is super conditioning!

AOR Ortho Sleep

I’ve been traveling a bit and this is what’s been helping me as I’m changing time zones: it’s a melatonin supplement from AOR, called Ortho Sleep.  Melatonin is naturally produced by the body in accord with its own circadian rhythms.  When those rhythms get disrupted, either because of a change in time zones, or because of the copious amounts of blue light that we’re getting these days, it can be helpful to supplement the melatonin.

I’ve taken this off and on for about a month, and I can say that it definitely makes you sleepy and lets you fall asleep.  I take 2 capsules but I think it’s a bit much for me, so I’ve cut down to 1.  In my system, the capsules take about an hour to work and then I start to feel super drowsy and fall asleep immediately.  This isn’t a drug, it’s a natural supplement, but keep it away from children and those who don’t know how to use it.

Have you tried melatonin? What has your experience been?

Available online and at supplement carriers.  $36.40 online.

Lano Face Face Base The Aussie Flyer Leave-on Recovery Mask

I’ve made a major dent in this Lanolips mask which is basically an intense moisturizer for very dry skin. Because it’s a mix of water, lanolin, and shea butter, there’s an immediate cooling effect as the water evaporates and you put it on your skin.

Although this a says mask on it, it’s basically like an old-school cold cream.  It seals in moisture so it’s best used after a serum and leaving it on your skin will help hydrate it.  When my skin is really dry, I put it on and then wipe it off before layer on my oil and I find that’s working well.

Pick it up at Sephora. $32.

Current Night Time Routine

Here is what I’ve been doing at night time for the past month and it’s giving me the most glowy skin ever.

Right after I wash my face (or get out of the shower), I put on Differin which is a prescription retinol.  It’s pretty strong and because it’s a gel formula, it’s not moisturizing at all and needs something on top.

I’ve had this gel for a year, and I’ve used it off and on.  I really notice results when I use it, but then sometimes I like to try other retinols too.

Then I like to apply a big juicy dose of this Deciem Hylamide C25 Booster vitamin C serum. This is Ethyl Ascorbic Acid which has been shown to brighten skin when used twice a day for a month.  Going to stick with it.  Although this is 25% Vitamin C, it’s in a formula that is so moisturizing.  It’s like an oily gel that takes some time to absorb into your skin, but when it does, you’ve got some glow.

Then I’m using this Sothy’s Paris Depolluting Moisturizer which is the nicest most creamy moisturizer I’ve ever used.

I’m finding that I’m waking up with better and better skin with this routine, so I’m sticking with it as long as I’ve got this vitamin C on hand.

What’s your routine right now?
