Seriously Radiant Skin

Here’s something that’s an amazing present for your mum, your aunt who’s visiting from another country, your boss or co-worker who’s done something sweet for you, anyone really, just buy this and keep it on hand in case you need to give someone a present on short notice.

What am I going on about? Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream!
This stuff is amazing. It’s rich and thick and frankly works so well that it should cost more than what you will pay for it at the drugstore. It’s got a high amount of hyaluronic and amino-peptides in it which makes it amazingly powerful at hydrating your skin and making it look its best.

I must admit that while I used this myself, I ended up loving it so much that I gave it to some aunts and friends who complained that they needed something to help plump up their skin and make them look better. Not only have I received glowing reviews about the products from my friends, but I can see how amazing their skin looks afterwards, and that in itself is all I need.

Anyway, this cream is great, get it at the drugstore, you’ll like it.  About $30.

Neutrogena Beach Defense

I just got back from vacation and I loved using this sunscreen while I was gone. I went through the whole bottle in less than a week because everyone kept reaching for it. I’ve been using this since 2013 and it’s still one of my favourites!
Here’s a bulletin about my favourite sunscreen from last summer. Neutrogena Beach Defense sunscreen lotion for the body now comes in SPF 60! I know they say that there’s really no value of having an SPF over 30, but I figure that a higher SPF definitely doesn’t hurt and so I err on the side of caution.

I absolutely love this lotion and my whole family used it. It is light-weight, oil-free, and quick to absorb. It doesn’t leave a white cast on the body so you look normal, and it’s even waterproof (although you will have to reapply after sitting in the pool).

Because the formula is so nice, it’s a snap to apply and then reapply.

Pick it up at drugstores for $16.96.

Mascara Wow!

Mascara Wow is Lise Watier’s newest mascara and the brush has bristles just like the mascaras being released these days – stiff rubber bristles that separate lashes nicely and make it easy to layer the formula. The mascara doesn’t smudge or flake and lasts a long time while making your lashes look thick. It does what it says and it does it well!

$25 online.

Marcelle Ultimate Lash Mascara

Today’s another day for a mascara roundup, and we start with one from a line that I haven’t talked much about: Marcelle!

I’ve been trying Marcelle’s Ultimate Lash Mascara and I’m pleased to say that although it doesn’t use the newer trendier wands, it’s still a great product that really works well.

I found that it was really easy to use and with a couple of sweeps of the wand I could get a pretty fringe of lashes. The great thing about this mascara is that it both lengthened and thickened and my lashes stayed soft not crispy.

$11.99.

Miu Miu L’eau Rosee

I love me a good rose scent, but if this one is just a fresh floral that’s not too rose-filled at all.  There are notes of fresh rose right at the beginning, and then there’s tons of Lily of the Valley and a touch of musk in the dry down.  This is a beautiful scent that’s easy to wear especially if you like floral scents.

My only complaint is that it’s not really a unique scent.  It’s fresh.  It’s floral.  It smells clean.  But there’s nothing different or unique about it, so it’s not something I’d want to add to my fragrance wardrobe.

Pick it up at Sephora and department store perfume counters.

$102 for 50ml.

Pureology Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner

There’s nothing that beats a salon shampoo, eh? Somehow it makes your hair glisten like it never has before, and you know that there’s no way you can get that same effect at home. Every time that I’ve gone to a salon and had this happen to me, it’s been because they use Pureology Shampoo and Conditioner, and so that’s what I’m using right now also.
I’ve been using the shampoo and conditioner for a couple of weeks now, and I’ve completely run out of the conditioner so I know I can give a real report. After using the system, my hair is hydrated and really shiny. I even got a comment on how shiny it is which was nice. I found the conditioner to be thick and it really didn’t leave any kind of residue in my hair – I guess that’s why it was so shiny! I also noticed that when I used the shampoo none of my hair colour washed out, so if you regularly dye your hair, this would be a good choice.

I Heart Dermalogica

It’s got to be said – I’m a huge fan of Dermalogica. They have a very straight-forward approach to skin care and can not only help you with any skin problems that you might be having, but can also help your skin look its best at all times. There’s treatment paired with products that you use at home to maintain your Dermalogica glow.

I’ve had a Dermalogica facial and it was a great experience. I went through their face mapping procedure and you know what? It is right on the money. The skin care expert doing the face mapping, took one look at my reddened cheeks and asked me if I have a problem with congestion, and I did! She also saw that I had dry but oily skin and then went on to suggest products for my condition.

The facial that I went on to receive was second to none. It was so relaxing that I pretty much dozed off for part of it, and when I was done, I had clearer skin than I had seen in a long time.

I really cannot say enough good things about my Dermalogica experience. If you want to find a centre near you, Dermalogica has a handy locating system on their home page. I encourage you to find one near you and experience Dermalogica for yourself. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Get Rid of Acne Scarring

In one of the comments on cosmetic surgery, a reader mentioned that the only thing that she wants to look into for herself is a way to get rid of her acne scars.

Acne scarring is something that affects a lot of people and the pits that are left on skin can leave a mark self-esteem. But it’s not something that you have to live with forever.

There’s a laser treatment called Profractional Laser Resurfacing and it is amazing. It takes off the top layers of your skin so that the pitting and extreme scarring that are there actually disappear. With varying levels of treatment that are available, it’s possible for people to either get a series of gentle treatments or fewer harsher treatments that have more downtime. They’re customized depending on what the patient actually needs and how much downtime they’re able to incorporate into their schedule.

The treatment can remove fine lines, wrinkles, pock marks, and other scarring. More and more, it seems like there’s a procedure to fix everything, and if there’s something about your skin that really bothers you, you should check out the options available to fix it. You might be surprised at how easy a treatment can be or that there are solutions out there.

Kevin Murphy Hair.Resort

I have a friend who used to rave about Kevin Murphy Hair.Resort.  This is a shimmery gel that’s meant to give you beachy waves, and the story is that Kevin was working on a photoshoot where he needed to create some beach hair.  He mixed together gel, styling cream, and eyeshadow to give hair a lived in, shimmery look.

That’s how Hair.Resort was born.  It is a shimmery gel that really works to define hair and add a bit of crunch to it.  It’s best used on damp hair that’s almost dry – you can then diffuse your hair or airdry it so that waves are defined but not frizzy.

I found that this added more crunch to my hair than I like, so I’m not reaching for it a lot.  I think there are other beach products on the market that don’t give crunchy hair, and this feels a little old-school to me.

Available in salons.

Lanolips Rose Gold 101 Ointment

I first tried the Lano 101 Ointment when I got it as part of a gift set earlier this year and I really liked it.  It’s emollient the way that petroleum jelly is, but moisturizing and really comforting too.  And now the 101 Ointment is available in a beautiful Rose Gold colour that brings a generous flush to the lips.

The original ointment is multi-purpose but I find that this Rose Gold one is so pigmented that I wouldn’t want to use it on my elbows or cuticles… the colour will just get everywhere.  I also wouldn’t use this as a cheek tint because it’s a little greasy.

You need a tiny tiny amount per use, so the tube is going to last a long time – which is pretty much true for a lot of lip balms but especially this one.

Available at Sephora. $23.
