Sisley Gentle Facial Buffing Cream

Please don’t use St. Ives scrub on your face.  It’s the one thing that people tell me to review, but a harsh scrub like that can cause micro-tears in the skin and then actually make any and all issues worst.  I mean, hyperpigmentation and aging can get worst.  So go gentle.  Chemical exfoliant is best, but if you must get a bit of dry skin off, then this gentle facial buffing cream is good.  Very good. The particles are microfine so they are a bit more smoothing.  Maybe there’s still a bit of aggression, but sometimes I need it.

I just used the Sisley Gentle Facial Buffing Cream and not only is my skin scrubbed, but it smells so good!

$95.

From the Archives: MAC Holiday – Curiositease

Aren’t these little sets cute?  This are from over 10 years ago, but they made good gifts in any Secret Santa that I went to.I sure hope that you haven’t had enough of MAC yet, because there are a few more collections that are a part of the Holiday collection this season! It’s now time for a look at Curiositease! This collection is all about sets. There are sets of pigments, eye pencils, and glosses.

The first set is the warm Pigments, while the one below is cool Pigments. These sets are a great chance to try a whole bunch of different pigment colours. The sets are also good because the pigments are offered in small sizes – if you’ve had pigments before, you know that they last forever and so having a small sized bottle is actually better than having a large sized one.
There’s also a set of Soft Sparkle Eye Pencils. I think that the pencils would make great stocking-stuffers.

My favourite part of the Curiositease collection is the sets of glosses. There’s a Lipglass set, a Lusterglass set, and a Plushglass set. There are bright colours and light colours as well so you can mix and match your favourite glosses. Note that the size of these glosses is smaller also.

Tom Ford Metallique Perfume Review

Hmmm, it must have been the name or the brash bottle that’s not at all classic or even fresh, but I knew that there would be something about Tom Ford’s new fragrance, Metallique, that I wouldn’t like.

But then I thought about how there are SO MANY Tom Ford fragrances that I LOVE.

Champaca is a mainstay, and I got it for my 31st birthday from my mom.

Tuscan Leather is good for sweater weather.

My husband gave me Cafe Rose for an anniversary and I love that one too. It was once that we smelled together and had to get.

Santal Blush is definitely an all-time fav.

But Metallique is not.

This fragrance is a lot of vanilla and a lot of musk.

Official notes are:

  • Pink peppercorn oil orpur®
  • Vert de bergamote orpur®
  • Aubepine heliotrope accord
  • Ambrette seed
  • Peru balsam

It was so sweet on me and did not work.  I couldn’t wait to shower it off, and even then I felt like I could still smell whiffs of it.

Available at Sephora and department stores. $195 for 50ml.

Tatcha Silk Peony Melting Eye Cream

I haven’t used an eye cream in a long while. Normally, I just smooth on whatever moisturizer I’m using on my face, but now that the weather is a little colder and my skin is a little dryer, especially in the eye area, I’ve started to use an eye cream and this one takes the cake.

Full disclaimer: I’m not using this for under-eye darkness.  I do have a little bit of that, but I know that the best thing that works for me is getting more sleep and drinking more water.  This cream has a buttery texture and goes on like a balm.  It feels soothing but absorbs in.  I put it under my eyes and anywhere I have dryness.

You can wear this during the day or at night.  Or both which is what I’m doing.  My skin is just that dry right now.  If I’m using it in the morning, I put it on just before my sunscreen.

Available at Sephora. $78.

Blixtex Superfruit Soother

I’m continuing with my review of all the lipbalms I’ve been using. I have them stashed all around the house and the best ones stay in my jacket pocket.

My latest is this Blistex Superfruit Soother lip balm. Perfect for the outdoors because it has SPF 15, but it also takes care of dryness as it protects. I’ve used this lots on my kids, and found it to be truly repairing for those lips that are cracked and crusty. I’m super impressed.

$2.29 – $4.98 at drugstores and mass merchandisers everywhere.

Avon Magix Prime Face Perfector SPF 20 Sunscreen

If you have oily skin, but you want to wear sunscreen that’s not greasy, this is going to be the best $15 that you spend. It’s Avon’s Magix Prime which used to be called just Magix, and I used it back in 2016!

Awesome Sunscreen for Oily Skin

Now it’s called Magix Prime and it has updated black and white packaging.  The formula seems to be pretty similar to what I used way back then but I can’t be sure because I don’t have them side by side.

This is a silicone-heavy, very powdery sunscreen that is completely clear.  Avon says that you can use it as a makeup primer, because it’s oil-free and it absorbs oil, but honestly, everyone in my house loves using this because it’s non-greasy and clear.  It definitely helps makeup glide on and it looks flawless for hours.  You can definitely wear this under foundation or on its own, and both ways will help your skin look smoother.

If you avoid sunscreen because you don’t like how greasy it is, then this one is for you.  It only has SPF 20, but that might be enough if you spend most of your day inside.

Available online.

Scott Barnes Chic Palette

Are you familiar with Scott Barnes? No? He was Jennifer Lopez’s makeup artist and the one who came up with her glowy yet ultra-nude look. He finally ended up creating a makeup line that featured colours for every skin-tone and nude glosses and lipsticks that worked on all women.

I have his Chic Palette. The palette contains 3 different blushes in a variety of finishes. The lightest colour has shimmer in it and is best used for highlighting. The middle colour is the brightest and can be used for contouring or for adding a pop of colour on the apple of the cheek. The medium colour is only slightly shimmery and is great if you’re looking for a more subtle blush colour.

My palette is in Posh which is a pink bordering on peachy. The blushes are not overly powdery which means that you only get as much blush as you need. It also means that it’s so easy to layer your colours instead of ending up with too much. I like the palette a lot and am even thinking of getting one in another colour. Most days, I find myself using the medium colour and I like that if I wanted to highlight or add more colour, I can do so with products that I know are in the same colour family.

Suddenly putting blush on is so much easier!

But then I took out my Bobbi Brown Apricot blush and realized that it is almost the same colour as the brightest shade in the Posh Chic Palette! Take a look at the pictures below. I’ve placed the two blushes side by side.

Overall, both blushes are good, but I like having the three colours in one easy to carry palette. The Chic Palette also has a mirror in it and the packaging is pretty lux. I’ll let you know when and if I get another one.

Ouai Melrose Place Perfume Review

I haven’t used any of the Ouai products but that doesn’t mean that I’m not a fan.  I’ve been following Jen Atkin, creator of Ouai, for a long time, and I’m a fan of her aesthetic and ideas.

Melrose Place is supposed to be a warm, woody rose, and other notes include bergamot, lychee, and white musk.  I could smell the lychee right from the beginning and its sweetness is not what I typically like in a fragrance.  After a while, the musk comes through and the scent finds some of its woodiness, but this is kind of a sweet fragrance throughout.

This is an eau de parfum, so lasting power is great and just one spray gives enough scent to last the whole day.

Pick it up at Sephora or online.  $87 for 50ml.

CoverGirl Peacock Fan Mascara Video and Trial

Didn’t like this mascara. Take a look to see why.

http://www.instagram.com/tv/B3BCn1Rg_K-/

Here’s a better picture of the wand.  The bristles are insanely short so I have no idea what kind of lashes they’re supposed to be able to grab.

I would like a smudge-free formula and normal bristles. Thanks!

From the Archives: MAC Holiday Collection – Heirlooms Clutches and Brushes

Once upon a time, I used to be into travel brushes.  No more.  I suggest not getting travel brushes, and just springing for regular size brushes and a larger makeup bag.  But these were the brushes that MAC came out with a long time ago. What do you think?  Would you get them?

The canister is actually my favourite product because you could leave it open on your vanity so that you have easy access to your brushes at all times.
