Contour and Highlight How-to Video

Here’s a quick video about how to highlight and contour. I got lots of requests from friends to do this one, as I think it looks easy but people are scared to try it.  Definitely, one of the keys is using this amazing L’Oreal Paris Infallible Contour palette because it’s easy to blend and light.

I hope you enjoy the video!

Rodial Instaglam Skin Tint

Currently wearing this Rodial Instaglam Skin Tint everyday because I sit next to windows and I’m not moving.  My colour is medium, and you can see what it looks like.  It’s a neutral with some shimmer and makes the skin look airbrushed!

This is absolutely my new favourite tinted moisturizer.

I haven’t used a tinted moisturizer in ages – mainly because I love the look and staying power of foundation, and tinted moisturizer just wasn’t cutting it for me.

…until I tried this one.Rodial Instaglam Skin Tint

Unlike most other moisturizers, this one is medium coverage while still being hydrating. Hyaluronic acid in it helps your skin stay hydrated, and the slightly pearlescent finish means that your skin looks healthy and glowing. I’ve even found that this has decent lasting power despite my oily skin sometimes getting in the way.

This moisturizer is also SPF 30, which is great for those of us who want extra SPF in their coverage but it does mean that you will get flashback if you get photographed in flash photography. It doesn’t matter much to me, because I’m using this as an everyday tinted moisturizer just to make my skin look a little more polished, and not as a camera-ready foundation.

This comes in 4 shades – I use Hamptons (medium) and it’s best to apply generously to get good coverage and hydration. The texture of this is water light, despite the emollients and moisturizers in it, and it absorbs into skin easily and quickly.

$45 at Shoppers Drug Mart.

Biosilk Silk Therapy

biosilk A while ago, a reader recommended the Biosilk Silk Therapy. Well, I finally have had a chance to try it and I have to say that it’s not your typical shine serum. Although the main ingredients are still silicones, there is also some kind of alcohol in this serum which I think gives it the drier finish.

I didn’t notice the serum drying my hair out and I liked the look that I got. I wouldn’t say that this is a holy grail item for me, but if you have not liked the finish of typical serums then I think that you’d love this. I do have to mention that I would purchase it again and the fact that it’s available in almost every drugstore is a nice plus.

Sisley Gentle Facial Buffing Cream

Please don’t use St. Ives scrub on your face.  It’s the one thing that people tell me to review, but a harsh scrub like that can cause micro-tears in the skin and then actually make any and all issues worst.  I mean, hyperpigmentation and aging can get worst.  So go gentle.  Chemical exfoliant is best, but if you must get a bit of dry skin off, then this gentle facial buffing cream is good.  Very good. The particles are microfine so they are a bit more smoothing.  Maybe there’s still a bit of aggression, but sometimes I need it.

I just used the Sisley Gentle Facial Buffing Cream and not only is my skin scrubbed, but it smells so good!

$95.

From the Archives: MAC Holiday – Curiositease

Aren’t these little sets cute?  This are from over 10 years ago, but they made good gifts in any Secret Santa that I went to.I sure hope that you haven’t had enough of MAC yet, because there are a few more collections that are a part of the Holiday collection this season! It’s now time for a look at Curiositease! This collection is all about sets. There are sets of pigments, eye pencils, and glosses.

The first set is the warm Pigments, while the one below is cool Pigments. These sets are a great chance to try a whole bunch of different pigment colours. The sets are also good because the pigments are offered in small sizes – if you’ve had pigments before, you know that they last forever and so having a small sized bottle is actually better than having a large sized one.
There’s also a set of Soft Sparkle Eye Pencils. I think that the pencils would make great stocking-stuffers.

My favourite part of the Curiositease collection is the sets of glosses. There’s a Lipglass set, a Lusterglass set, and a Plushglass set. There are bright colours and light colours as well so you can mix and match your favourite glosses. Note that the size of these glosses is smaller also.

Tom Ford Metallique Perfume Review

Hmmm, it must have been the name or the brash bottle that’s not at all classic or even fresh, but I knew that there would be something about Tom Ford’s new fragrance, Metallique, that I wouldn’t like.

But then I thought about how there are SO MANY Tom Ford fragrances that I LOVE.

Champaca is a mainstay, and I got it for my 31st birthday from my mom.

Tuscan Leather is good for sweater weather.

My husband gave me Cafe Rose for an anniversary and I love that one too. It was once that we smelled together and had to get.

Santal Blush is definitely an all-time fav.

But Metallique is not.

This fragrance is a lot of vanilla and a lot of musk.

Official notes are:

  • Pink peppercorn oil orpur®
  • Vert de bergamote orpur®
  • Aubepine heliotrope accord
  • Ambrette seed
  • Peru balsam

It was so sweet on me and did not work.  I couldn’t wait to shower it off, and even then I felt like I could still smell whiffs of it.

Available at Sephora and department stores. $195 for 50ml.

Tatcha Silk Peony Melting Eye Cream

I haven’t used an eye cream in a long while. Normally, I just smooth on whatever moisturizer I’m using on my face, but now that the weather is a little colder and my skin is a little dryer, especially in the eye area, I’ve started to use an eye cream and this one takes the cake.

Full disclaimer: I’m not using this for under-eye darkness.  I do have a little bit of that, but I know that the best thing that works for me is getting more sleep and drinking more water.  This cream has a buttery texture and goes on like a balm.  It feels soothing but absorbs in.  I put it under my eyes and anywhere I have dryness.

You can wear this during the day or at night.  Or both which is what I’m doing.  My skin is just that dry right now.  If I’m using it in the morning, I put it on just before my sunscreen.

Available at Sephora. $78.

Blixtex Superfruit Soother

I’m continuing with my review of all the lipbalms I’ve been using. I have them stashed all around the house and the best ones stay in my jacket pocket.

My latest is this Blistex Superfruit Soother lip balm. Perfect for the outdoors because it has SPF 15, but it also takes care of dryness as it protects. I’ve used this lots on my kids, and found it to be truly repairing for those lips that are cracked and crusty. I’m super impressed.

$2.29 – $4.98 at drugstores and mass merchandisers everywhere.
