Lady Vengeance and Juliette has a Gun

For the past few weeks, I have been absolutely smitten by Juliette Has a Gun. Created by the grandson of Nina Ricci, Juliette Has a Gun takes the traditional and upgrades it, giving it a rock and roll edge.

Think a younger customer who doesn’t want to smell like a candy store or a spa. Think someone who wants something original yet not smell like they work in a garden or a department store. Something unique yet familiar at the same time. In my mind, this is a perfume for the young generation of today and forever epitomizes it.

I have three more words: I love it.

Of the two, my favourite is the kind in the black bottle – Lady Vengeance. It’s roses mixed with patchouli and vanilla and is sort of sweet yet mature all at the same time.

There’s also Miss Charming which is a much sweeter blend – lychee and rose. It is well mixed and pretty but not quite my style.

And don’t forget the amazing bottles – how pretty are they? Plus, because they’re opaque, you know that the perfume will be unaffected by sunlight and will keep for a longer time.

Find it at Sephora stores. $145 for 100ml.

Maskeraide Sheet Masks

Guys, I for one, will always love a sheet mask, although I don’t always take the time to apply them. Lately, there has been a lot of backlash against sheet masks, but what I’m loving about them is that they hydrate my skin so well that it’s positively bouncy afterwards.

I’ve tried almost all of them at this point, and I’ve definitely tried all the ones that you see in the image. The ones to avoid are the foaming (bubble) ones and the little minis that you can apply like stickers. Those are basically a waste of time.

What is awesome are the serum masks.  The Rose one, or the Detox one is amazing because of their hydrating properties.

You can check them out online at Maskeraide.com.

They are packaged individually, and are $6 to $7 each.

Hourglass Caution Mascara Review Video!

My new favourite way to review mascaras is to just try them on and let you see the results for yourselves. This Hourglass mascara is $36 at Sephora, and it is seriously long-wearing and sweat-proof without being waterproof. It’s not going to flake or smudge but still gives you amazing looking lashes.

Biore Charcoal Cleansing Micellar Water

We probably hit peak charcoal when we started drinking it as a juice, and I’m not sure that the miniscule amounts of charcoal in this @BioreCanada Micellar water are actually going to do anything.

But, I did love using this Micellar water and I’ll tell you my little trick for using it: put it on a face towel and use that to wipe the makeup off your skin. Otherwise, you’re going to use 4-10 of those little cotton pads which seems like a colossal waste.

This Micellar Water did a great job of getting makeup off and wasn’t too moisturizing for my oily skin.

Available in drugstores right now.

Empty: Beautycounter Overnight Resurfacing Peel

I first posted my review of @BeautyCounterHQ’s Overnight Resurfacing Peel here, and since then, I’ve kept using it, so here’s a picture of my #empty.

This peel is mostly lactic acid, in an unknown percentage, but it really works to moisturize and exfoliate your skin at the same time.  You can order it online for $79.

From the Archive: Estee Lauder Pleasures Delight

Had to pull out this old perfume – it’s more than 10 years old and you can find it on Amazon or other niche retailers.

I know that Estee Lauder Pleasures was a favourite for many women – I always meet women who say that they have purchased and then repurchased this scent since it’s release, and so it makes so much sense for Estee Lauder to introduce limited editions of Pleasures. There’s been Pleasures Exotic (which was more tropical), Pleasures Intense (a strong floral), and Pleasures Delight.

The original was fruity and floral and this new version is more gourmand. Sure, the opening notes are sweet fruits that will literally make your mouth water, but once they die down (rather quickly actually), you’ll see that the closing notes are much sweeter. Vanilla and caramel are the base notes of this perfume and they’re very warm. This is definitely a scent that will make your mouth water, and if you look for that in a fragrance, sniff this the next time you’re at an Estee Lauder counter.

CoverGirl Total Tease Mascara Review

Guys, it’s amazing how many people love drugstore mascaras.  I think it’s because mascara is something you have to replace every 3 months, so it’s nice to not spend too much money and still get some bang for your buck.  Here’s my review of @CoverGirl’s Total Tease mascara.  Spoiler: I LOVE this mascara and it really works to define lashes.  You can apply a lot without it smudging throughout the day so that’s a bonus.  Watch the video to check out the wand and see how it wears throughout the day.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Sunscreen SPF 50

It’s bizarre to me that I haven’t reviewed this @NeutrogenaCanada sunscreen before, because it is one of my favourites.  Now, I know that everyone is on the Mineral sunscreen bandwagon right now, but honestly, if a sunscreen is going to make me look like a ghost, then I don’t want it.

Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost sunscreen is SPF 50 and absorbs quickly.  It moisturizes and calms skin too.

Available at drugstores for $13.

Empty: Moroccanoil Blow-Dry Concentrate

Really, the “word concentrate” in this blow-dry serum says it all: it’s thicker and heavier than your usual Moroccanoil hair treatment, but it’s slippery and great for frizzy hair whether you’re blow-drying it or not.

I love using this so much but especially in the summer when the weather is hot and humid.  My very curly hair needs all the help it can get to stay smooth and shiny, and I find that this treatment really does it for me, which must be how I’ve gone through an entire bottle of this.

You can use this on wet/damp hair before you heat-style it but you can also use it on dry hair to make it a bit more shiny.  If you use it on dry hair, a little bit goes a long way.  Too much and you’ll end up with very greasy hair.  On wet hair, this works much better, defining curls and making hair stay smooth.  It also seems to lock in all moisture which is key for styling hair and essential for curly hair.

I’ve been using this daily after I wash my hair, and I actually think that my hair looks healthier than ever, so I’m very pleased with it.

Available at salons and where good haircare is found. About $38.
