Reversa Resurfacing Smoothing Cream

I’ve been on and off the retinol bandwagon, and either I’ve gotten to the point where I’m just not noticing a difference anymore, or I need something a bit stronger.

So I pulled out my Reversa Resurfacing Smoothing Cream because it has 10% glycolic acid in it and glycolic acid has always been a hero ingredient for my skin. It just leaves my skin smooth and poreless, so I knew that it was going to make a difference this time too.

What’s different about this smoothing cream is that it has a bit of dimethicone in it so it gives your skin an ultra-smooth appearance which is great under makeup.  Over the course of your day (or night), you’ll still be getting the gentle exfoliation that glycolic acid provides, but the texture of your skin will look immediately better.

It was great when I first used it, and now it’s actually my favourite thing to put on before my makeup or sunscreen.  If I’m going out at night, I like to wash my face, apply this, and then apply any makeup on top and I’m finding that the result is way better skin over the long run.

Also – the airless pump that this comes in gets bonus points.  You know that every last drop of your cream is going to be effective which matters.

I haven’t gone back to my retinol yet.

You can pick this up online or at drugstores for $40.

Vita Liberata Trystal Pressed Self-Tan Powder

If you watch my IGTV, you’ll see me use this @VitaLiberata powder as a contour or a blush.  And I’ve been using it for months!  Read the full review!

Ok so here’s the deal with powder with self-tanner in it.  It works – but I use it on top of sunscreen and foundation so there’s really no opportunity for the self-tanner to work on my skin.  Plus, with daily retinol and vitamin C, my skin is being exfoliated pretty regularly and the idea of putting self-tanner on is kind of besides the point.

But – I love the warm colour of this Trystal powder from Vita Liberata. The picture above is totally unedited in the colour Sunkissed, and you can see how warm and natural-looking the powder is.  This makes for a great bronzer because it’s the perfect colour and is so natural-looking.

The powder comes in a Bronze version as well (which is deeper) and it also comes as a loose powder.  I love the ease of pressed powders and the fact that they are mess-free, so that’s why I prefer this one.

Pick it up at Sephora or online for $45.

Klorane Mango Collection

Check out this thick and lush hair mask: see those finger marks?  Those were left behind as I scooped out a heathy amount of the Mask with Mango Butter in the shower.

And guess what?  The entire collection smells entirely delicious – just like fresh mangoes.

Like all of Klorane’s products, these are made without silicones.  They’re rich and thick, they moisturizer, they have slip, but there are no silicones!  Sometimes silicones cause build up on your hair and cause it to be more brittle and break, but these are not made with them.

If you have dry hair, these are great.  I really even love the Mango leave-in cream because it really does have real mango butter in it and adds a bit of grease and heft to my hair.  I like using it before I wash my hair instead of after, and I use it by the gobs.  It’s even great on wet hair, especially before blow-drying.

The cherry on the sundae: they even harvest their own raw materials, which is kind of cool and shows that they want to have some responsibility over the quality of their ingredients. This collection is made of 96% natural ingredients.

You can find them at Well.ca.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream SPF 15

Sometimes, the easiest way to add SPF into your routine is to use a daily moisturizer that already has SPF in it.  That’s the case with the @NeutrogenaCA Hydro Boost Gel Cream.  The texture is light, and not greasy, so that once this absorbs you’ll forget you even had it on. Cleaned out my desk and found this lying in – Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Gel which has SPF 15 in it.  This is absolutely one of my favourite SPF-containing moisturizers to wear on the regular – it’s pretty awesome at all times of year, but especially just daily under makeup because it’s so light and the hyaluronic acid in it makes it feel so refreshing on your skin.

$19.97 at mass merchandisers and drugstores.

Beautycounter Lip Balm Review

It’s time to really go through all the lip balms that we have and give them a good testing, because the weather is certainly right for it.

Up to the plate is Beautycounter’s balm – their’s is called Lip Conditioner and comes in a peppermint and Calendula formula.

I’m testing the peppermint here because it’s what I have.

The ingredients are obviously going to be on the natural side: no mineral oils here. These are the ingredients:

Persea Gratissima (Avocado) OilCera Alba/Beeswax/Cire d’abeilleRicinus Communis (Castor) Seed OilOlus/Vegetable Oil/Huile végétaleButyrospermum Parkii (Shea) ButterLimnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed OilMentha Piperita (Peppermint) OilCandelilla Cera/Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax/Cire de candelillaHydrogenated Vegetable OilLanolinTocopherol (Vitamin E)Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf OilSimmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil

The lip conditioner is solid, but melts easily on the lips when you apply it.  I like that it’s easy to apply, but the finish is slightly oily instead of greasy.  What this means is that it doesn’t coat the lips as well as a traditional balm and so it doesn’t seem to hydrate or make them feel conditioned.  I also found the mint in this a little strong for my liking – I’d prefer the other flavour.

But if you want to give something natural a try, this is a good option.  It is moisturizing but less so than a traditional balm.  It also doesn’t have beeswax in it, so if you are not into using a wax-based lip balm, you could give this a try.

Available online for $22.

CoverFX Pressed Mineral Foundation Review

I’ve been using this foundation for the past few weeks and it’s my absolute favourite right now.  If you’re skin is slightly greasy from whatever moisturizer you wear, topped with some sort of sunscreen, like I do, you want something that’s going to absorb the excess shiny-ness a bit but also give you some coverage but also look natural… well I’ve found that I was looking for and it’s the CoverFX Pressed Mineral Foundation.

I have the foundation in the colour M40 and it’s lighter on my skin than it seems in the pan.  What makes this foundation so great is that there’s a high amount of pigment in the powder so you need a tiny amount to cover anything from the veins under your eyes, or any kind of minor pigmentation issues.  It won’t cover freckles or birthmarks, so it’s not that high coverage, but I would say that it’s a medium coverage foundation.

My skin tends to be oily, with few dry patches so I’m not worried about this making dry skin look more dry – but if you have dry skin, that might be something that you should consider.  If you prep your skin adequately before applying this, you should be ok, and you’ll notice that moisturizer gives this foundation something to stick to and it’ll look better overall.

Through the course of the day, it doesn’t move but it’s not the best at absorbing oil either.  I can see oiliness start to show on my T-zone in the middle of a busy day, but I also see the foundation on my washcloth at the end of the day so I know it’s sticking and lasting the whole day.

You can pick it up at Sephora or online.  $44.

OPI Tokyo Collection

Available this February at salons is OPI’s new Tokyo collection.  Featuring bright colours, including 2 teals, an array of pinks, and some holographic shades, the Tokyo collection is great way to brighten up your nails this winter.

I love the shade Kanpai! OPI!  It’s the perfect blue-lavender colour that goes on opaque in one coat, although I apply 2 just to be sure it’ll last.

The colour is creamy and streak-free so it looks even and wears well.

Also pretty are all the pinks. There’s Rice Rice Baby which is more of a mauve,

Another Ramen-tic Evening which is a bright pink,

Arigato from Tokyo which is a fuschia, Hurry-juku Get this Colour.

Kanpai! OPI! And Rice Rice Baby are definitely my fav colours from this collection.  They are wearable and seem to go with everything.

You can get the collection in gel colour, the Infinite Shine formula, or the original nail polish formula.  All the shades that I tried went on streak-free with two coats, and I loved the creams because they’re really rich and creamy.

Available everywhere OPI is sold!

Lalicious I’ll Melt For You Gift Set

If you’re a fan of coconut oil based moisturizers, you’ll have to check out Lalicious which is basically pure coconut oil mixed with delicious scents.

The trio includes Sugar Kiss (which smells like cupcakes), Sugar Lavender (more floral), and Sugar Coconut (sweet coconut).  Because they’re coconut oil, they’re melty at room temperature, so they smooth easily on to your skin. They’re also perfect as a deep conditioning treatment in your hair.  I put it in before washing, and let it sit for as long as I can.

Pick up the set online for $32.
