Gosh Cosmetics Fall Collection

So in my September favourites video, I mentioned two Gosh products that I can’t live without: the eyebrow gel ($15), and a Velvet Touch Lipliner in Antique Rose ($12) that reminds me of Kylie Jenner’s lipcolour.  It’s a serious contender for MAC Whirl, but without the brown, which suits me just fine.

Pick both up at Gosh stores now – stock up on the lipliner because it’s only there as long as it lasts.

Clinique Sonic System Purifying Cleansing Brush

clinique sonic cleansing brushI have it!  Clinique’s new Sonic System Purifying Cleansing Brush, but first a bit of clarification: unlike the Clarisonic, there aren’t any sonic vibrations when you use this brush.  It’s a misnomer, because although the brush does vibrate, it’s not at a sonic frequency.

That said, it’s still made a huge difference to my skin so of course, I can’t say anything bad about this brush.

The brush head is tapered so it lets you get at the angles in your face.  It’s anti-microbial, so it won’t add bacteria on your skin, and it has a 30 second timer on it.  Clinique suggests that you start by using it for just 30 seconds a day and they’re right.  If you use it too much right off the bat, then you may end up irritating your skin which could result in more blemishes or dryness.

It’s also recommended that you remove your makeup before using this brush.  I find that when I use the brush on foundation-covered skin, the pigments stick to the brush and I have to use it more than once to actually clean my face.  It’s much better to wash with a mild cleanser first, and then use this brush.

Used regularly, you will find that you have extra clean skin and skin that just seems clearer and more well-behaved. It’s also waterproof so you can use it in the shower, and recharge it using the charging base when needed.

Available at Clinique counters for $95.

My Meeting with Scott Barnes

Scott Barnes@ScottBarnes68 is back in the retail game, makeup fanatics, and you can find his products @HudsonsBay.

Last week, I had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet with Barnes – he was in town to present at The Bay as part of their Beauty Obsessed event last Saturday.

Barnes is known for creating the infamous J.Lo glow, and Kim Kardashian’s intense contouring look. He is the go-to celebrity makeup artist and works with famous faces as his full-time job. Barnes had a makeup line (that used to be carried at Holt Renfrew ages and ages ago), and his Body Bling is still available at The Bay. Body Bling was one of the first body highlighting products on the market. It make skin look glowing and flawless and lasts the whole entire day.

Body BlingThe news is that Barnes will be coming back with a new makeup line – and it’s going to be amazing. It’ll have products to contour, to highlight, and amazing foundations that are incredibly skin-like. I know I can’t wait!

And for the record, I still have the Chic Palette from 2007, and that’s what I used to use to contour.

I had to ask Barnes: what was his makeup pet peeve? His answer: contour that looks obvious. It’s not supposed to be an obvious line, he said. You’re supposed to blend blend blend, so that only you know you did it, and no-one else does.

Barnes’ line will be one to watch for – he’s tried everything out there, and already learned from his first retail experience, so it will be interesting to see what he thinks we need.

The Body Shop’s Best Collection This Year

The Body Shop Wild Argan OilGo check out The Body Shop’s new Wild Argan Oil Collection. Firstly, it smells absolutely amazing. A mix of warm and floral notes, the scent is calming and intriguing all at once.

Besides the amazing scent, this line as all the usual things we’ve come to expect from The Body Shop: amazing body butters, gentle yet effective scrubs, and a shower gel.

But for this collection, the list goes on. There is also a body oil, a mini body butter, a solid oil in a mini tin, a bubble bath, and a solid oil for lips.

I’m absolutely in love with the little mini’s. They are easy to tote around and carry tons of moisturizing power.

You can find the entire line online and at The Body Shop Stores.

Kiehl’s New Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate

Kiehls Hydro-PlumpingLight water serums are not cutting it anymore.  The latest skincare products are richer and thicker but still meant to be layered for perhaps even more moisture. Although I have oily skin, it’s taken to little bouts of dryness lately, but won’t handle anything too rich and greasy.  I need some hydration not just emollients.

Kiehl’s new Serum Concentrate is perfect.  It’s thicker than an actual serum – it comes out like a gel.  Rub it into skin for immediate relief, but the 15% glycerine stays in your skin and attracts more moisture to it.  Add your regular moisturizer on top to really seal in what you’ve put in, or do like I do, and follow up with foundation.

Low-key and powerful, this is great for all skin types looking for something extra in their skincare regimen.

$58 at Kiehl’s boutiques and online.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation Review

tarte amazonian clay foundationI’ve always loved Tarte products and their “clay” product line is amazing, because it’s made for oily skin and all the products are made to be long-wearing.

I had to try their 12-hour clay foundation because I love a long-wearing foundation.

At first, I was completely got put off by the foundation because I had the wrong shade and it went on so thickly on to my skin and almost looked like a mask. I hurried back to Sephora and found the foundation in the right colour. It matches exactly, but is the fourth darkest shade available, so the shade selection for the foundation isn’t very wide. Still, there are lots of colours available and they’re very skin-true with real warm/yellow undertones as well as some beige/pink colours.

Once I had the right colour, the foundation was amazing. It is medium to full coverage and can cover almost anything. Although the cream is thick in my hand, it smooths out easily and can be blended and buffed into the skin before it sets. I didn’t need to set this foundation with a powder, but it doesn’t have a matte finish. Instead if has a slightly dewy very skin-like satiny finish. It looks natural on the skin which is quite a chance from most long-wearing, full coverage foundations.

This foundation looked amazing on me for about 6 hours. I would say that at hour 6, it actually looked fresh and like I had just applied it, but shortly thereafter, it started fading and melting as it absorbed some of the oil on my skin. It did last 12 hours on me, but not as well as a matte finish foundation might.

Still, if you have dry to combination skin, and want a long-wearing foundation, then this will be the one for you. I might actually use it more in the winter when my skin is more dry and not quite so oily, but it’s not a summer foundation for me.

Have you tried this one? What did you think?

I am going to try the Dior Star foundation next!

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation Review

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation ImageWhen I went to Walmart, I bough the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation which I was really excited to find in a colour that looked very close to NC 42. The colour I got was a very warm colour and actually ended up being a bit darker than NC 42 but in the same colour family.

I’ll start by saying that this foundation is awesome but it’s not for me.

It gives medium coverage which is buildable and natural looking. There’s no whitish cast, there’s no caking, and there’s no pink or overly beige undertones in the warm colours.

However, it is extremely dewy and that’s what didn’t work for me.

Since I already have oily skin, I always want to have matte skin because that’s what minimizes the oiliness. Matte finish products usually have ingredients that can absorb some of the oil and that really works for me. This foundation has no shimmer in it, but it’s just too shiny for my liking. In fact, it’s so shiny that I can’t even tone it down with powder and that’s a real problem. It basically just absorbed the powder too and just kept on being shiny.

The foundation does have great staying power despite not being matte. It lasted the whole day on me, and lasts just as well as some long-wearing foundations. It is also SPF 18 which is a bonus.

So! If you have dry skin, then this foundation will be perfect for you. In fact, if you have warmer coloured skin, and have been spending money on high-end foundation, then you should definitely look into this one and see if it works for you because it only costs $8 at Walmart which is a steal! Because of the price, I was really hoping that this foundation would work for me, but it just didn’t.
