L’Occitane Mer & Mistral

L'occitane mer et mistralThis summer, L’Occitane adds a new scent to their higher end line La Collection de Grasse. The new scent is a unisex one and is called Mer & Mistral and comes in an eau de toilette ($75). Actually, though they’re labelling it unisex, the scent is pretty masculine, and L’Occitane is aware of that because they’ve also introduced a shower gel ($20), a cooling moisturize ($24) and aftershave lotion ($36).

The scent is definitely aquatic and smells fully of the ocean. There are notes of cypress, rosemary, and pine giving the fragrance very woody notes combined with a salty aquatic blend. The musky base keeps the scent feeling fresh and clean.

Pick it up at L’Occitane stores now.

Philosophy Amazing Grace Firming Body Emulsion

Philosophy Amazing GraceI did not experience any skin firming with the use of this body lotion.

But I have to admit that I don’t expect that out of any lotion, and it wasn’t really an effect that I was looking for.

That said, you absolutely need to try Philosophy’s body lotions!  They are some of the most hydrating and nicely formulated products in existence!

Amazing Grace is nice and light – just like its clean scent – and it absorbs into skin almost immediately and leaves it nice and soft.  Skin stays hydrated through the day, and stays hydrated.  I’m not a huge fan of the Grace line of scents normally because they smell a little too clean for me, but I love the scents in lotion format.  I love the nice clean scent on the rest of my skin – it tricks me into thinking that I’ve just had a shower, and if I have just had a shower, then that’s even better!

Amazing Grace smells kind of like laundry detergent, and that’s a good thing.  It’s superbly clean, slightly clean, water-like, and beautiful.  There’s no sweetness, and you kind of forget about the scent after a while, which is not altogether bad.

$44 for 16oz.

The Body Shop Colour Crush Shine Lipstick

The Body Shop Colour Crush LipstickIf you’re more of a lipgloss/lipbalm girl, then this lipstick is for you!

Made with fair trade marula oil, The Body Shop’s Colour Crush Shine Lipstick has a shiny, glossy, finish and comes in jelly-like shades.

Because this is actually a lipstick and not a gloss, it provides decent coverage and staying power but still looks and feels hydrating – a must for a great everyday lipstick.

$13 online or at Body Shop stores.

Real Techniques Silicone Liner Brush

real techniques silicone liner brushReal Techniques is a makeup brush company by Sam and Nic Chapman – they are the sisters behind the Pixiwoo makeup tutorial channel on Youtube, and I watch them religiously!

When I saw their silicone eyeliner brush, I just had to try it.

I use gel eyeliner on a regular basis and the one downfall of using it is that you have to wash your eyeliner brush daily so that you get a nice smooth application the next day that you use your brush.  It’s a bit of a hassle to get all the product out of the brush, and that’s why I was interested in trying out this silicone brush.  It’s smooth and without any bristles, so you can apply the eyeliner and then basically wipe it dry with a wipe or with a bit of makeup remover.  You could also just wash it in some hot water with soap and that would do the trick.

But does it work?

…kind of.

Unfortunately, no bristles means that it’s difficult to pick up product and when you do pick up product, there’s not a lot of it on the brush.  Application is on the lighter side, and I found that I had to go over my line atleast once to get a nice solid finish.

On the plus side, this brush makes it easy to get right to the base of the lashes.  The brush is very fine and easy to control and the end result is a polished one.

Is it better than my usual eyeliner brush when it comes to application?  Not it is not.  However, this brush is easier to clean, and so I’ll be reaching for it on a regular basis.

Pick it up online for $6.  Real Techniques will also be available at London Drugs, Familiprix, Lawtons Drugs, Pharmasave, Value Drug Mart, and Walmart.

Burt’s Bees Wild for Bees Coconut and Pear Lip Balm

Burts Bees wild for Bees LipbalmWhat’s not to love in this tropical-scented best-selling cult-favourite lip balm. Supremely hydrating and long-lasting, it makes lips feel moisturized and immediately takes care of any roughness.

The ingredients make all the difference: this contains cold-pressed coconut oil, and shea butter, along with beeswax to really lock everything in.

What’s more is that sales from this particular lip balm will go towards a great cause: the proceeds from the sale of this limited edition lip balm will go towards Pollinator Partnerships Canada: Burt’s Bees has gotten together with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts and Sustainable TO Architecture + Building to create and install five unique bee hotels across Ontario. Sounds strange, right, a hotel for bees? But it’s for bees that work on a solitary basis and have no hive to call home. These bee hotels will provide resting space for the bees – it’s especially important because many bees have lost their homes because of deforestation and environmental damage.

If you’re interested in learning more, check out the Wild for Bees website, or just pick up this lip balm at drugstores and mass retailers for $4.99.

New Dior Capture Totale Dream Skin

Dior Dream SkinThis is the primer that wasn’t.

If normal makeup primers are too heavy for your skin, and you need something that adds just a bit of slip and luminosity, then Dior’s new Capture Totale Dream Skin is going to be your best bet.

Formulated for aging skin, this is a cream that is light and has a touch of beige shimmer in it to make skin look more luminous. It makes wrinkles look less obvious and adds some hydration to the skin. It makes skin look… expensive.

This light lotion does have some silicone in it and so makes skin look smoother. The shimmer makes imperfections disappear, and over time, plant extracts make dark spots fade.

The cream is extremely light-weight, hydrating, and colour-correcting. It’s great as a primer because it allows foundation to go on so smoothly.

Pick it up at the Dior counter for $115. Yes, it’s more expensive than your regular primer, but it’s super light and you need one pump for your whole face, so the generous container will last a long time.

Shine this Summer: Sebastian Shine Shaker Lightweight Shine Spray

Here’s the problem with most shine sprays: they don’t come in an aerosol bottle so you get a concentrated hit of shine spray what may be too much for your hair. If you’ve used a shine spray before, you know that less is more, and if you don’t use it with a light hand, it can weigh down your hair or make it look greasy.
Sebastian Shine Shaker
Sebastian’s Shine Shaker deals with all of that because not only is it a lightweight shine spray, but it comes bottle in a small aerosol can. The can only emits a fine mist of product so you can apply a sheer layer of this spray and add just enough shine.

The spray is multi-purpose: you can spray it on dry hair for heat protection, or you can use it after styling to add a layer of shine to your hair. I use it both ways – I need the heat protection before using a straightener, and I like it as a finishing product too.

Pick it up at salons for $20.95.
