MAC Sheen Supreme

Gotta check out this collection because MAC introduces a new lip product.  The new addition is Sheen Supreme Lipglass which comes in a Stila-like clickable tube.  The formula is light and not as sticky as the normal lipglass.  All the colours have pearl in them, and the finish is super pretty.  Each colour leaves a glow on your lips – there’s not much pigment, but that’s fine because it means that these layer rather well, and work with almost any colour lip or lipstick.

The colours are:

Jasmine Honey – Light cream beige (frost)
Fuji Pink – Pale peach with low level pearl (frost)
Moon Beach – Warm light beige with pearl (frost)
Cherry Fest – rose with high level pearl (frost)
Sweet Bean – Cool beige with pearl (frost)
Almond Blossom – Pale pink with high level pearl (frost)
Mango Sheen – Bright coral with pearl (frost)
Asian Butterfly – Lilac with pearl (frost)
Imperial Red Bright rose with pearl (frost)
Dress Kimono – Mid-tone frosted plum (frost)
Black Tea – Deep brown with pearl (frost)
Suggested Retail Price $19.00 u.s./$22.50 CDN

Part of the collection is also the Sheen Supreme Lipstick – this wasn’t as much of a favourite with me, because I find that the shimmer makes the colour wear lighter than it looks.

The colours are:

Supremely Confident – Pale nude (creme)
Happy Hibiscus – Creamy white-pink (frost)
Fashion City – Neutral coral pink (creme)
Bare Again – Pinky neutral beige (creme)
Tea Ceremony – Neutral beige pink (creme)
Sheer Mandarin – Mid-tone yellow orange (creme)
Korean Candy – Bright orange-red (creme)
Supreme Style – Light coral pink with pearl (frost)
Royal Azalea – Bright mid-tone pink (creme)
Blossom Culture – soft pink with pearl (frost)
Zen Rose – Bright mid-tone fuchsia (creme)
Insanely It – Watermelon pink (creme)
Asian Flower – Creamy lavender (creme)

New! Burberry Body Mist Review

Burberry Body’s new body mist is more than just your usual flanker.  This is an alcohol-free version of the original Burberry Body  so you can wear it on your skin as well as in your hair.  The mist is super long-lasting despite being lighter than the original Burberry Body.  I also found it to be slightly more fruity-smelling, with a definitely sweet undertone that almost became cloying.  The main notes are still musk, sandalwood, and iris.  The sweet notes are peach, vanilla, and amber.

Available at local fragrance counters – $60 for 60 ml.

Love, Chloe Purse Spray

This is the neatest little gadget to come out in a little while.  The exclusive limited edition Love, Chloe purse spray comes in a rose gold case, that you need to unlock to take out the travel-sized bottle that’s inside.  It won’t spill or crack in your suitecase, and the best part is that the bottle contains two replacement bottles so you’ll never be out of Love, Chloe.

To show you how it works, I decided to make a little video, because it’s just too cool to explain in words. Check it out:

The details are pretty too – the chain means that you’re not going to lose the cap, and the bottle is engraved with Love, Chloe.  It’s going straight on my vanity while I wait for my next trip to come up.

$82 at Holt Renfrew.

YSL L’Homme Libre Review

I don’t review many men’s fragrances anymore.  Most of the ones that come my way… smell like… engine fuel, citrus, and alcohol. Why even bother?

But this one caught my attention.  I knew it smelled good on first sniff, but every time I smelled it subsequently, I found myself thinking “mmm!  That smells good!”

So ladies, since Valentine’s day is coming up, and men, since Valentine’s day is coming up: head to the nearest perfume counter and check out L’Homme Libre, which is a new flanker to the original L’Homme that came out years ago.

I know that I like this scent because it’s slightly woody which I love.  It has opening notes of bergamot, violet leaves, basil and star anise.  The spiciness in the scent is subtle.  The base is patchouli and vetiver which keep the scent fresh and earthy.  There are remnants of leather and resin which is exactly what a men’s fragrance should have.

What makes it most wearable – especially for everyday – is that this is an eau de toilette and it totally works.  $69 for 60ml and $89 for 100ml.

Bobbi Brown Neons and Nudes Collection – Spring 2012

I haven’t seen this collection in person yet, but I have major love for Bobbi Brown’s 2012 Neons and Nudes collection because it totally works with my personal aesthetic. I love pairing a bright lip with almost no shadow, a slight hint of a blush, and black eyeliner.

It’s a classic look that works every time, and best of all, it looks amazing in pictures!

It is my go-to look for special occasions!

The collection has a nude eye palette that gives the UD Naked Palette a run for its money.

It also has some neon lip colours and glosses.

The lip colours are Uber Beige, Atomic Orange, and Neon Pink.  The glosses are Citrus, Cosmic Pink, and Ultra Violet.

Pick this up at your Bobbi Brown counter this spring.

Lancome Spring 2012: La Roseraie des Délices (Lots of Pictures)

Check out a few beautiful pictures from Lancome’s spring collection! The trend this spring is pastel colours, and this is right up that alley. The colours are inspired by the garden and the boudoir.

The pretty compact you see below is called La Rosaraie. This is a slightly shimmery light pink blush. It barely showed up on my skin and I would use it more as a highlighter.

The palette below is called Vert Tendresse and is greyish green and aqua colours. They are cool-toned and wearable.

The glosses also come in shades of pink, tangerine, and light green (that really wears quite sheer).  There were also nail polishes in similar colours but those will not be available in Canada now!

What will you pick up from this collection?

Kenzo Flower Tag Review

Kenzo Flower Tag is the latest flanker for the original and iconic Kenzo Flower perfume.  The “Tag” refers to the underground graffiti artist practice of “tagging” which is leaving your symbol everywhere.  Why Kenzo felt that this particular sub-culture reference might appeal to younger women is beyond me.

However, I actually like the idea of this flanker because it stays very true to the original Flower fragrance, but is lighter and more fresh.  “Younger” doesn’t mean that it now has sticky sweet notes, or that it’s lost its integrity.  Flower Tag is just as good as the original with most of the original notes.  Notes include peony, black currant, mandarin, jasmine, and lily.  Like the original, though this is fresher, it does last a long time and wear well on the skin or on clothing. The drydown, actually, is more similar to the original than the fresh top notes that you smell when  you first spray this.

Pick it up at department stores.

Swatch: Dior Holiday 2011 Exquis

Dior’s Holiday 2011 polishes from their Merveille collection has something for everyone. It has neutrals, brights, and a dark vampy colour too!  Each shade has very fine gold shimmer in it which barely translates on the nail.  You’ll see it more in the bottle than you will on your nail.

LOVE this golden khaki colour from Dior for their Holiday 2011 collection. The colour is called Exquis and you must get your hands on it because it’s a neutral with some oomph.

The next colour is Merveille, which is an orangy red with the gold shimmer. I’m telling you right now that this is the last red polish I’m swatching because, quite frankly, I’m sick of it. As you can see, the gold shimmer is barely perceptible.

Also check out Apparat. This is a deep wine with gold shimmer. From far, you can tell that this is a shimmery colour, but there’s no way of telling whether it’s gold or not. It’s kind of disappointing that the gold shimmer is lost.

What do you think of these colours? Will you be picking up any of them for the holidays?

More Gorilla Perfumes from Lush!

Gorilla perfumes at Lush are my favourite, because they remind me of old-school perfumes.  Each one smells earthy with variations of floral, fruit, or woody notes.

Now they have 9 new scents so that Lush lovers have even more to choose from.

Love is the first scent and opens with apple notes that meld with cinnamon.  The scent is bright and fresh, but I have to admit that it’s not one of my favourites because of all the gourmand notes.

Cocktail is a scent that really does remind me of alcohol.  It is slightly masculine smelling with a mix of ylang ylang, oakmoss, jasmine, and sandalwood.  It’s a beautiful and promising scent.

Ginger is a re-release and of course features the ginger note that’s made even more peppery with the addition of juniper berry.  The scent is vibrant and spicy and perfect for a pick me up!  It has a nice dry finish which makes it one of my favourites.  I can certainly see why Lush brought this one back.

Dear John is a blast of citrus that smells rather like orange juice mixed with cloves and other spices.

The Smell of Weather Turning is the one perfume that fragonerds wanted to smell, and I have to say that it doesn’t disappoint.  It does really smell like the outdoors, and it’s the addition of mint (so fresh and cool) to hay and oakmoss.  The scent does smell like outside weather, but at the same time I have to say that it’s not out of this world and something I would reach for daily.

Superworld Unknown is my least favourite.  It smells exactly like cotton candy and is the Pink Sugar of the Lush family.  Like Pink Sugar, I’m sure this will sell like crazy.

Ladyboy for some reason reminds me of banana antibiotic that I used to take when I was little.  Luckily the banana doesn’t last long (maybe 5 minutes on me), and gives way to oakmoss and chamomile.  The sweetness lingers though and this is almost pleasant with the dryness of the oakmoss.  It just works.  Barely.

1000 Kisses Deep is another gourmande with notes of mandarin, osmanthus blossoms, and resins.  The resins and the orange make this on the sweet side but with a steady heaviness.  It smells like an old library.  Lovely but something you need to be in the mood to wear.

Finally, B Scent, which has a sweet lemon and bergamot opening note, that gives way to definite sandalwood, ylang ylang, musk and jasmine.  It’s interesting that the opening is such a fruity lemon but there’s almost not trace of it at the drydown of the perfume.  I like the scent, but it’s definitely a mature one.  Very sophisticated and refined.

Check out the Gorilla Perfume line at Lush stores near you, or online where you have even more of a selection of scents.
