Tower 28 Making Waves Mascara Review

Honestly, I can see why this mascara is so popular. The comb-type applicator does a great job at applying just the right amount of mascara. I thought my lashes looked great afterwards so I would use this and maybe even apply a top coat of a tubing mascara. I had to get on a wait list to buy it… but when I saw one in store, I grabbed it. Have you tried this Tower 28 mascara?  I’ve seen a lot of hype around the brand, but aside from this mascara, I don’t know what’s new and exciting.  Their lipglosses seem like the old Lancome Juicy Tubes, but I’m sure the formula is less sticky and more wearable so maybe that’s it.

Tell me what you think.

Empties: Trinny London, Zara, Keys Soulcare, Kerastase

Text
A set of nice sunny days that make winter weather bearable. Refillable skincare, yes or no? I’m team no. It puts the onus of being sustainable on the consumer rather than the brand and makes the packaging more clunky than it needs to be.

I bring it up because I finished my Trinny Skincare Intense Peptide Moisturizer, and yeah, I have a refill of it so I’m good for right now. This is my favourite moisturizer for my face. It’s really thick and moisturizing and has a set of peptides that help skin be more bouncy. If you have anything that can be refilled, don’t forget to save the dispenser so that you can screw it on to the new bottle.

Other than that, I’m done with this YSL mascara which I loved and I would definitely repurchase. It’s intense and black and makes your lashes look like falsies.

Kerastase Genesis shampoo. This was ok. KEYS Soulcare Body and Hand Wash mini which was also ok.

Zara Shimmering Body Oil from the holidays. This is the second one I’ve finished, and it was a limited edition product from December. If they come out with these again, I will rebuy them. It’s a shame to have to throw out these luxurious glass bottles though.

Serge Lutens La Fille de Berlin Perfume Review

February is our time to celebrate love and of course, first love yourself and do the things that make you happy. For me, that’s several sprays of my favourite perfume, my grounding throughout the day, and easy way for me to check in with myself. La Fille de Berlin by Serge Lutens is a rose lover’s dream with its wine-coloured juice, and it’s cliched to say that it would make a great valentine’s day gift, but if there’s something I know it’s that people actually don’t love the smell of roses because of the expectations that come along with them culturally. Still, I’m not one of those people, and I fell in love with roses and La Fille de Berlin a long time ago. What it lacks in opulence, it makes up for in mystery and coolness. This is for an ice queen who has a frosty stare but a honeyed heart. She lives in the woods, but of course, has roses in her garden.

Prada Candy Perfume Review

Gourmands aren’t my thing, but I have a sweet spot for Prada Candy. Really, I’m following the benzoin, and moving from Prada Infusion d’Iris to Prada Candy.

TextWhat Infusion d’Iris has as one of its base notes, Candy makes the focus, highlighting the caramel and vanilla aspects of benzoin with actual caramel and vanilla top notes. Did you know that Prada Candy supposedly came out of a specific request from Miuccia Prada for a scent with a caramel note? Daniela Andrier added benzoin to a fragrance that ended up being similar to the original Prada Amber perfume but not the same. Benzoin has a sweetness but it’s also kind of powdery and fluffy, and Prada Candy (at least in its original formula) has 12% of it, reportedly the most ever put in a fragrance at the time.

Candy reminds you of sweets but it doesn’t make your mouth water. The caramel and toffee in the top notes are delicious. It’s sweet, yes, with elements of vanilla and caramel, but the benzoin and musks in the dry down make this more refined and easy to wear. It’s not syrupy or cloying. On paper, Candy reminds me of cupcakes, but the magic is when it’s on my skin.

Prada Infusion d’Iris Perfume Review

Text
What to wear when you’re in a false spring: Prada Infusion d’Iris, delightful in its execution of iris thanks to an uplifting neroli and grounding benzoin. It’s a perfume-lover favourite, and also chronically under-rated or never talked about because of newer launches. My favourite thing about Infusion d’Iris is the mix of warm and cool which is why it makes me think of spring. The brightness of neroli is sunshine, the earthiness of the Iris is frozen roots, and benzoin a warmth. There’s also a soft frankincense that sets the background for everything else, a place to anchor and settle. It’s perfect for spring and perfect for spring that’s not really spring.

Empties: Amika, Alterna, Zara, Fenty Skin

Text
Let’s start with some minis. The Fenty Hydravisor and the Pre-Show Glow were from a set. I love the sunscreen because of how glowy and moisturizing it is, and I was split on the pre-show glow for a while, but I decided I love it. It does make your skin more smooth – it’s a very strong acid. You just put it on and wash it off after a minute, so it’s easy to incorporate into a routine too.

I finished an Amika Flash Instant Shine Mask. I loved this, but it’s no Wonder Water, ad for the price, I’ll stick to Wonder Water. I haven’t finished a Wonder Water for a while but it’s still in the lineup of things I use and I’m going to try some other options to see if they work as well but smell better. But still, nothing is beating the price of Wonder Water.

Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Bond Repair conditioner. I have the shampoo too, and I love them together. Of course, the conditioner gets finished first because sometimes I wash my hair with only conditioner (I’d say every other time), and this one makes my hair so smooth. I have learned that my hair loves anything with Bond Repair or the like in the title because it really does calm down frizz.

Zara Soleil Decade glitter oil. I can’t believe I finished this because it is SO STRONGLY scented, and I wish I could say that I found the scent sophisticated and addictive, but it’s pretty sweet and not really my type of scent. But I mixed it with another oil and enjoyed the glitter this winter. I have another one of these too which I will continue to use.

Clinique Charcoal Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm

In my opinion, the charcoal in the Clinique Charcoal Take the Day Off cleansing balm did not make a huge difference in how well this cleansed my skin and removed makeup, but if you found the original Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm a bit thick and too oily, then this one is the one for you because it’s more balancing.  The charcoal is a very mild exfoliator, and it’s great for getting the oil off your face.

Have you tried it? Does the charcoal make a difference to you? I will say that I do enjoy a great cleansing balm. You basically melt it in your hand and apply it to dry skin. Then you emulsify with some water and wipe clean with a washcloth. You can repeat or go in with a foaming cleanser at that point.
