NEW La Roche Posay Anthelios Mineral One SPF 50+ Review

Is it make up or is it sun protection?

Text

Some beauty news: I know we have all used tinted sunscreen and thought this should come in more colours. Well La Roche Posay has gone and done it with a mineral skin tint that comes in 5 shades. They are Fair, Medium, Tan, Brown, and Dark Brown. There are testers so you can swatch before buying. I picked up Medium and Brown for myself. Fair is quite fair and Tan is peachy.

TextI would say that this is make up.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios Mineral One SPF 50+ Daily Cream is a Tinted mineral sunscreen. The name implies that you can put on one product on and have some protection and make up on your face.

The main ingredient is 13.6% titanium dioxide. The back of the bottle says 12 hour coverage, 24 hour hydration. It also says that it is suitable for sensitive skin and that is because this is a mineral-sunscreen product. It is $30 for 30 ML and made in France.

This “daily cream” is so pigmented that there is no way to use the recommended amount of sunscreen in order to have optimal sun protection. Two fingers worth looks ridiculous. I would only purchase this if you need a foundation with SPF in it however if that is your goal, then you may as well buy foundation from a company that makes foundation. I would recommend Maybelline, It Cosmetics, or Estee Lauder or literally ANY other make up brand. Not only will you be able to potentially save money because some of the drugstore foundations with SPF are cheaper, you’ll also be able to buy a foundation that matches your skin tone better.

Personally this was a fail for me, and I would not recommend it. The tints are not very well thought out. There’s no way that these five intensely pigmented colors can represent the majority of skin tones these days, and I would like using them more if they weren’t so pigmented because then I could apply lots and really rely on them for my son protection but because they’re so tinted I really can’t use that much and I need to use a regular sunscreen anyways.

Anyway, people are excited about this and probably only applying it to supplement their regular sunscreen.

I just wouldn’t use it myself.

MooGoo Skincare and Haircare Products from Australia

I got a restock of my favorite MooGoo products, which I tried last fall.

TextOf everything I tried, I liked it all, but the Protein shot Leave In made my hair soft and smooth without the use of any silicones. The protein is from the milk products that is in the cream and just really works for my hair which tends to be dry and frizz-prone. I use it on wet hair but you could also use it on dry. The Natural Protein Shot leave-in hair conditioner is my favourite silicone-free product EVER. I’m using it on wet hair every time I wash it and it’s so smoothing. I think the little bit of protein in styling products really helps minimize frizz.

MooGoo also sent me their skincare products to try and they are perfect for dry skin. The body creams leave your skin soft to the touch but aren’t sticky.

Why’s it called “MooGoo”? Well, it was first developed to be used on cow’s udders and it turns out that the formula is good for people skin too. The scent of these is a little lactonic but not sweet. It’s comforting and reminds me of baby products.

Have you heard of this line or tried any of their products? They are out of Australia, and really well made. You can find them on Amazon or shop through their website.

Amika Dream Routine Overnight Hydration Treatment Review

TextAmika’s overnight treatment is here and I’m liking it. As someone who washes their hair at night, I use it on wet hair and let it air dry. The cream is exceptionally light and smells good – I think Amika is known for their scent. Basically a lighter silicone formula in a cream rather than a serum, this is a good choice for wet or dry hair as it makes hair feel soft and conditioned without weighing it down – and then you wash it out when you’re ready. You could think of this as a leave-in.

Also: 3 Amika products that I love:

Bust Your Brass Intense Repair Mask. This is the most pigmented purple hair mask that I have, andI’ve been finding that it keeps my lightened ends from being too brassy. For once, I really like my highlights and am even thinking of getting more.apply the mask on dry hair and leave on for about 20 minutes and then wash it off. It’s super purple so I like to wear gloves before I apply it. I do this once or twice a week.

Power Hour Curl Refreshing Spray. I’m not into refreshing my dry hair, but I use this kind of as a leave in when my hair is wet. It has a bit of hold, some hydration, and makes my hair shiny but not greasy. It’s a first step, and then I follow up with a serum or some sort of hair cream.

The Kure Multi-Task Repair Treatment. Actually, I loved the whole Kure line when I tried it earlier this year, and I would highly recommend it. It is so nice and leaves your hair super smooth. The Kure treatment doesn’t get used much because I do have a lot of treatment type products in rotation, but I like it and I’ll keep using it.

Have you tried any of these? What do you think?

Perfume.Sucks First Impressions Video

https://youtu.be/XC4WmUBWUmQ

I got this little Perfume.Sucks sample set, and even though the set is a few years old, I’m sure the perfume smells fine (none of them have gone off) so I decided to share some of my first impressions. Obviously, this is not a great way to evaluate perfume, so that’s not what’s going on here, this is first impressions only. If I like the perfume, I wear it on skin and I tried all of these on my skin. After wearing these for a while, I know that Yellow is my favourite, but I’d probably get Blue if I had to choose.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Pressed Serum Review

This is a… wait for it… a pressed serum. Ok, what? Yep.

Text

I’m actually going through this super quickly, so I thought I’d share some impressions – it’s part of the Neutrogena Hydro Boost line so it’s got hyaluronic acid as the main ingredient, and that’s not really something that I go out of my way to include in my skincare routine, but I’m liking this. It’s heavier than your usual serum, but it still sinks in quickly.

If regular hyaluronic acid serum seems too watery and evaporates before you have a chance to really feel its effects, then this will be a little better. It sinks in rather than evaporating and then leaves your skin prepped for other moisturizer, oil, what have you. I use this at night or in the morning when my skin is parched, and then use my sunscreen or even my retinoid cream on top. It is strongly scented so maybe not for the most delicate of skins, but it would be great for people with more oily but dehydrated skin types.

So pretty and surprisingly pigmented! The teeniest sample that came free in my Sephora order. Have you tried it?

Empties: CeraVe, Boscia FootLogix, L’Oreal, Rare Beauty

TextSome empties from the past couple of weeks. Yes, not one but 2 Cerave face washes. I had both the foaming cleanser and the Cream to Foam cleanser on the go, and the Cream to Foam is my favourite. It’s a more cushiony texture that’s still washes clean. I liked it and I love the size of these face washes and the price point. Honestly, I’ll never stop buying and using drugstore cleansers.

Boscia retinoid oil was easy to use. An oil always feels moisturizing so I love that. I also ran out of my Boscia body lotion and I adored that! It was light and absorbed quickly!!!

Rare Beauty Lip Soufflé. This is a creamy matte lip colour. I got it free with a Sephora order and I probably wouldn’t rebuy it. I didn’t love this colour and the finish was drying but not long-wearing. I’ve been wearing more glossy lipsticks these days.

The Footlogix foam was a waste of money. I got talked into getting it by my aesthetician and honestly a $10 urea cream feels better and actually makes a difference.

L’Oréal Voluminous Balm mascara. I loved this but I’m not going to rebuy. It got clumpy and ran out pretty quickly!

Use that Fancy Soap

TextLife’s too short to not use your bougie soap, especially when it’s made by a perfumer. Maria Candida Gentile beauty soap. Sometimes in the shower, I forget what it is I’m using, but the amazing scent of this perfume blows me away.

The scent doesn’t last but it smells amazing in the shower. I’m not sure which particular scent this is, but it’s a mixture of herbal and ambery notes. You can find soaps on the Maria Candida Gentile website.

Hyperpigmentation Skincare Routine

I’ve been doing this skincare routine since January.  I’d been noticing some pigmentation around my jawline and finally brought it up to my doctor.  She recommended that I use a retinoid and then go from there…

I think the most important thing that I’ve learned is that there’s no ONE ingredient that will do all the work, so it’s better to use a combination of ingredients in your routine. Most importantly, sunscreen will help you keep the results you’ve worked for. And retinoids are still the gold standard in working towards better skin. Here’s what I’ve been using since January, and right now I’m at a place where I like my skin without makeup and I think it has improved.

The first product has to be sunscreen. It has to be. I wear it everyday, yes, even if I’m inside, and if it’s cloudy. There’s just no other way. What if it’s cloudy and then the sun comes out and I’ve gone for a walk? Well, I’ll probably forget to put it on, so I just have it on all the time no matter what. It’s part of my morning routine. I’m using the Murad Environmental Shield. Someone on my Youtube complained about the $70 price tag, but I like it and it’s very moisturizing too. ANY sunscreen is good as long as you’re using it lots.

The second product is prescription tret, yes, prescribed by my doctor when I complained about pigmentation. My skin is still flaking off all the time, but I’ve gotten into a bit of a routine with this. I’ve worked up to using it twice a week with a minimal amount of peeling.
Tranexamic Acid and niacin or niacinamide. Vichy or The A Method. I use one or the other and they’re both pretty gentle actually. The Vichy one also has Niacin in it (vitamin B3) which is known to keep skin looking more clear.  The A Method actually says that their tranexamic acid is at a 10%.  Although it seems high, there’s no stinging on your skin.

Vitamin C at a decent percentage. This Boscia Vitamin C is still one of my favourites. It’s 10% and has a light texture.

10% Azelaic Acid Booster from PC or the Vivier Corrector 2. Both of these are over-the-counter products and they seem to be lasting forever.

Have you tried any of these? Do you struggle with hyperpigmentation yourself? Is there anything you’d want to try?
