Empties: Moogoo and HNY Skincare

It’s winter here, so the empties of body lotion seem fitting. If I don’t stay on top of moisturizing, I’m prone to random patches of eczema. It’s been a decade since that happened, but I’m not letting it happen again.

Finished a HNY Skincare Body Balm. I posted about this early in the year and it made my best of 2021 list. It’s a small skincare brand out of Ontario and their products have beeswax in them. The body balm smelled like rose wax and melted into skin.

I’m also done a Moogoo Skincare body lotion. I’ve had it in rotation for a couple of weeks and so, yeah, it’s done. It’s the Soothing lotion which is the lightest of the bunch. Goes on creamy and then absorbs. I actually like the thicker ones a bit more for this time of year.

This is probably one of the last empties post for 2021!!! Thanks for following along if you have, I know a lot of people have told me that they enjoy seeing these because they can see what I actually have gone through. Some things go quickly (like body care and hair care) and some things take longer (like this body balm! – I tried to save it for emergencies).

Anyway, I’m feeling sunny this morning, I hope you’re enjoying your day wherever you are.

Sukin Skincare

There seems to be interesting nature-inspired products coming from Australia and New Zealand. Australian brand Sukin uses Kakadu Plum in its formulas because it’s high in vitamin C.

TextThe Sukin Glow Night Moisturizer is so rich and I like that it has a blend of so many moisturizing ingredients: glycerin, which attracts moisture to itself, squalane oil, which is nice and light, sunflower oil, and mango seed butter. Perfect for winter or for anyone who has dry skin.

The cleansers are beautiful too – gel-textured, smooth, not drying.

Murad Daily Clarifying Peel

Text

Got another of my favourite toner/serum. The Murad Daily Clarifying Peel is a mix of Glycolic acid, salicylic acid and a mild retinoid in a formula that has glycerine in it so it actually feels moisturizing. I use it as a first step morning and night and then follow up with the rest of my skincare routine. I’ve actually skipped my morning cleanse and just use this instead. This seems to be sold out at Sephora right now but you can get it directly from the Murad website. $49.

Moogoo Skincare: Australian Brand Now In Canada

Moogoo Skincare sent me their skincare products to try and they couldn’t be more perfect for the cold winter weather. I’ve been trying all the body creams, because I like options, and you can see that I’m almost out of the lightest one (which is in the middle).

TextThe Natural Protein Shot leave-in hair conditioner is my favourite silicone-free product EVER. ($17.99)

I’m using it on wet hair every time I wash it and it’s so smoothing. I think the little bit of protein in styling products really helps minimize frizz.

Why’s it called “MooGoo”? Well, it was first developed to be used on cow’s udders and it turns out that the formula is good for people skin too.  The brand is from Australia, and I’ve been lucky to try a few Australian and Kiwi brands this year.

The scent of these is a little lactonic but not sweet. It’s comforting and reminds me of baby products.  I’m using the Natural Full Cream Moisturizer ($19.99) these days and it smells kind of like warm milky oatmeal, which is kind of an addictive smell.

You can find Moogoo on Amazon!

Naturally Serious Skincare After Dark Peptide Cream

TextTexture shot of this beautiful Naturally Serious After Dark peptide sleeping cream.

The texture is creamy but light instead of thick and greasy. I’m using it on top of serums and it sinks in so quickly.

Naturally Serious Skin is available at Shoppers Drug Mart now, and I’ve seen a lot of their products on the shelves. The products are heavily scented so they may not be for all skin types, but the scent does dissipate quickly.

Have you tried any of the Naturally Serious Skin products?

Vasanti Concealer: Liquid VO2

Getting rid of dark circles is what a lot of people ask me about, but if you can’t fix them, you can always try to hide them. If you struggle with concealing dark circles, the Vasanti Liquid VO2 might work better than your traditional concealer because it has a bit of an orange tint that counteracts the blue that can be under your eyes.

TextHave you tried this? Did it work? You can find @vasanticosmetics at @shoppersdrugmart or on their website.

Clinique Aromatic’s Elixir Perfumer’s Reserve

Text

Clinique Aromatics Elixir Perfumer’s Reserve. Sometimes I pull bottles out of the back of my closet and think, wow there’s some good stuff back there that I put away. This is one such thing.

This came out for Christmas in 2011, it’s supposed to the same formula as the 1971 original. I haven’t smelled the original, and I actually don’t own a bottle of the current formulation. I’m sure 2011 me kept this bottle because it was pretty, but if they ever bring this out again, I sure hope they change the packaging. The stopper on this is not the tightest and it’s caused me to spill the juice or drop the bottle more than once. But moving on…

This is an intense patchouli-based fragrance and the dabbed for it actually is the perfect way to apply this scent. I can see it being too intense otherwise. It’s a woody-chypre but it’s more rounded than any other chypre fragrance I own. It’s velvety smooth, with a good dose of jasmine and rose, a bit of dry chamomile, and a damp earthy base.

This is a scent that really takes confidence to wear – but I would say that about most chypres. They are thought of as being too “perfume-y” (in a bad way) by those who associate these scents with an authoritative female figure. They’re just not warm cuddly perfumes, and can sometimes feel too sharp. What I do love about the Perfumer’s Reserve is that it’s a strong formula with a dabber. I apply behind my ears and hope that those who hug me remember how I smelled.

Have you smelled this or any other Aromatic’s Elixir formula? What do you think?

Scent Pairings: Korres and St. Clair Scents

Text

Night time perfume pairings: body smells like @korres Lemon and Basil, hair smells like St. Clair Scents Gardener’s Glove. I love that the lemon in the body lotion works so well with the Gardener’s Glove, and I’m noticing that St. Clair Scents really seem to have a unique sparkle in their top notes and it lasts such a long time.Do you have a perfume pairing that works really well for you?

Empties: The best anti-brass mask from Amika, Antipodes serum, and Living Proof Perfecting Spray

More things I finished.

Text

Amika Anti Brass mask way in the back there. I loved this and the best way to use it is to leave it in your hair for 20 minutes and then wash it out. I used it weekly just on my highlights and I’m so happy with how they look even though I got them done months ago. This never happens!!!

Antipodes Glow Ritual Vitamin C serum. So easy to use because it went well with everything.

MAC Fix It Prep and Prime spray. Meh. I have a large bottle that I don’t reach for but I wanted to use up this sample.

Living Proof Perfecting Spray. I liked this! It’s kind of like a leave-in and it made my hair shiny which is all I want in life.

Empties from Aerin Beauty, Maybelline Sky High Mascara, Alpha Arbutin Gel

That morning light and a few things I loved.

Aerin Beauty lip gloss is so moisturizing and smelled just like waxy roses. This is a line that’s pricy but also offers luxury. Maybelline Sky High Mascara is tubing and honestly, it’s good. I’d buy it again in a pinch. XO Treatment Room Cool Cucumber Alpha Arbutin gel. Discontinued because the skincare collection was limited edition but wow, I love it when there’s a gel that’s not sticky or tacky. Annie’s formulas are always amazing.
