Empties: Murad, Benefit, Fenty, and Versed

Things I finished and most I loved. The only dud from this group is the Fenty Mascara. Yes, it gives you fluffy lashes but boy does it ever smudge. The Benefit eyebrow pencil is super skinny and I love it. I’ve gone through many of these.Text

Murad Daily Clarifying Peel was used so much that it lasted about a month but that’s ok. It was awesome. I also finished the Murad Intense Recovery Cream but I’ve had that for about a year and don’t use it a ton. It is great for dehydrated skin. You can find it Sephora. Finally, I finished the Versed Day Dissolve Cleansing Balm and it’s the second one of these I’ve used up. It’s so nice and you can find it Shoppers Drug Mart. It’s part of their Thoughtful Choices line.

Nars Monoi Candle

Time to burn this Nars Monoi Candle.

TextIt’s been tucked away in a drawer because it’s got the most intense cold throw. Monoi oil is made from soaking gardenias in coconut oil, and comes from Tahiti. If you’re getting island vibes from the scent, you’re completely in the right zone. With one foot in autumnal weather, the rest of me is reminiscing of vacations past and future, and I’m dreaming of reading a book by the pool. If you can’t tell, I’m missing the heat, although we have had warmer than usual temperatures.

Mineral Sunscreens: This or That?

TextThis or that?

Two mineral sunscreens that are tinted. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Vichy’s Ultra-Fluid Mineral Tinted Sunscreen is easy to find at your local drugstore, so it’s probably more widely known. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The Vivier Sheer Tinted Mineral SPF 30 is available a dermatologists’ offices and medical spas, so it might not be as easy to get. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The Vichy sunscreen is SPF 60 but is more greasy, and more heavily tinted. Because of the opacity of the tint, the color match has to be pretty close to your own skin color for it to look natural. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The Vivier Sheer is SPF 30 but lighter and only slightly tinted, which means that you don’t need an exact match for it to look natural on your skin. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The Vivier sunscreen is about $48, and the Vichy sunscreen is about $32. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

They are both super long-lasting, and seem to resist running down your face if you sweat – I’ve worked out in both of them, gone swimming, been out for runs, and they seem to stay on, because I can still see them on my skin. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I like the Vivier one better. The light texture and tint mean that it’s easier to use, which means that I’m more likely to use it when my skin is sensitive. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Have you tried these? What do you think? Truly, tinted sunscreen needs to come in more than one colour, or at least in warm and neutral options.

Diptyque Do Son

I’ve pulled Diptyque Do Son out the last couple of days.

Text

I have the EDT. I mean, I’m not really a tuberose person, but wow, every time I wear Do Son, I’m calmed and soothed, and I do adore it. It’s partly because everything Diptyque has rounded edges. I once tapped a nice-smelling stranger on the shoulder to find out that they were wearing Tam Dao. If I were a collector… I’d get more Diptyque. Well this ended up being more about @diptyque than tuberose, but this is a lovely soft tuberose that stays front and centre in my collection.

Maybelline Lifter Gloss

The gloss I saw everywhere on the Internet.  Maybelline Lifter Gloss.

Text

I bought this Maybelline Lifter Gloss a few months ago, and didn’t really get around to posting about it. These glosses were so hyped when they launched, and then… I mean, they’re good ones but nothing that special. I was looking for something like Fenty Glossbomb but without the Fenty price tag. These glosses come in a ton of colours, some with shimmer and some without, and I wanted to go shimmer-less.

The colour I have, Heat, is somewhat pigmented, which is nice. They’re slightly moisturizing and taste slightly sweet, which isn’t great if you have a bad habit of licking your lips. They’re smooth and not sticky which is a definite plus. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Would I repurchase? Probably not. But it’s not bad for the price.

$8.96 online.

Empties: Bliss and Strivectin

Used the last of my Bliss Peel Pads this week and I did really enjoy these.

Text

They’re so saturated with solution that there’s enough for practically your whole body. I definitely used them on the back of my hands and arms, just remember the sunscreen if you’re using any kind of exfoliator.

I also finished an eye cream! Strivectin makes the best eye creams and this balm was soothing to my very dry eye area. I’m not normally an eye cream person, I just use my face products in that area and it seems to be working fine. Before this year, I didn’t even use under eye concealer, not that I didn’t need it, but I just lived with whatever was going on there. Anyway – eye cream and under eye concealer are the two things people always ask me about.

Travel Size

Some favourites that go around with me.

Text

A travel perfume – this gets swapped out all the time, depending on what I’m obsessed with at the moment. A long-wear lipstick and long-wear lip cream. Some Frederic Malle skincare product samples. I do love the formula of them and they are not too too scented, which is really nice. I kind of want the scent body products to layer and work with perfume.

Hemp Skincare Made in Canada

Text

Chanv is a line of Hemp Oil skincare products made in Quebec, Canada and as you can see, they’ve been getting a lot of use around here. They smell amazing thanks to the lavender and tea tree oil, and they’re light but moisturizing. The bath and massage oil gets used right after a shower and the ointment is great for extra dry spots.

If I had to pick a favourite product, it would be the ointment because it really does relieve dry itchy skin for along time.  Check out the ingredients: the cannabis sativa oil is right at the top of the list followed by other ingredients.  This balm is super intense and really relieves dry itchy skin. I’ve even used it on my kids.

You can find the line here.

Bliss Clear Genius Clarifying Toner + Serum

Bliss Skincare is now at Shoppers Drug Mart, and I’ve tried a few things but this is the only Bliss product that I’ve put off to the side for now.

TextI

It’s the Clear Genius Clarifying Toner + Serum, and it’s got a cocktail of ingredients: BHA, Niacinamide, Zinc, and Cica. It’s meant to calm skin and help get rid of mild congestion. It’s pretty gentle, actually! But this is a serum consistency that’s thick. It doesn’t absorb into cotton pads and just sits on top. It’s also weird to use it with this pump dispenser. Bliss actually has nice serums and other acid toning pads that I like better so I’d use those. Have you see Bliss at your local Shoppers Drug Mart yet?

Christophe Robin Cleansing Volumizing Paste

Maybe you can’t imagine putting a salt-clay mixture in your hair, but this Christophe Robin Cleansing Volumizing Paste smells like rose water and the scent wafts up to you as soon as you open the tub.

TextThere’s no choice but to dip your hand in and try it. This is and intensely foaming formula. Start with a nickel sized dollop and rub between your hands to get it foaming before applying to your scalp. This shampoo, like most volumizing formulas gives a very thorough clean, so it’s best for a weekly cleanse rather than a daily one.
