Are You Applying Enough Sunscreen?

Hands up if you get tanned even when you wear sunscreen.Text

Yeah me too. It’s because we aren’t applying enough and reapplying often enough. You really want a THICK layer and then let it dry. If that’s hard to do: apply more thinner layers. This summer, I’m applying on my face (one finger), doing the rest of my body, coming back to my face (one more finger) and then doing the rest of my body again. Don’t rub it in until it’s gone. Just leave it wet and let it dry there on its own.

The sunscreen I packed in my bag for a morning out: Vichy Ideal Soleil SPF 60. This is a crowd-pleaser and it’s clear even when you apply a lot.  The recommendation is that you apply one shot glass full of sunscreen for your body.

$22.49 and definitely everybody’s favourite formula.

Honest Beauty Hydrogel Cream

TextThe Honest Beauty The Hydrogel Cream has a mix of water and squalane (among other ingredients) so it gives you the finish of the oil but in a cream. I love squalane because it’s light enough to really work well for oily skin, which is what I have. Part of the Thoughtful Choices at Shoppers Drug Mart, this was gifted, but I actually do happen to love it.

Neutrogena Overnight Recovery Gel Cream

Sooo smooooth.

TextNeutrogena Overnight Recovery Gel Cream. It wasn’t helpful overnight for me, but I think this would be great for someone with oily and generally unproblematic skin. Look at that gel though – isn’t it pretty?

Amika Bust Your Brass Collection

TextHonestly, I hope I remember this level of maintenance and never get highlights again. But here’s some purple texture for your day. Amika Bust Your Brass Shampoo and Conditioner and I actually really like them! I just used them daily for a hit of purple and I leave the mask in for longer pre-shampoo.

Truly, I’ve found that the best way to get rid of brassy hair is to use the mask on a weekly basis, and let it sit in your hair while you work out, or do something else.  Then wash it out and you’ll have way less brass than what you started with.  The mask is so pigmented that I actually like to wear gloves when I apply it.

Available online, $26-$28.

Veronique Gabai Sur La Plage

Wearing Veronique Sur La Plage and being on the water is a treat.

TextThis is a citrusy marine fragrance that’s perfect for vacation because it’s light and versatile. It’s truly unisex too. It has some projection when you first spray it but then settles into essentially being a skin scent, and it doesn’t last long on me at all. The travel-sized perfume holders are gold-plated so this is like carrying around a beautiful piece of jewelry in your purse. It comes with a spray for $159 or you can get just the spray by itself for $59.

Baccarat Rouge 540

Wearing the iconic Baccarat Rouge 540 from Maison Francis Kurkdijian today.

Honestly, I knew it was going to be a day so I wanted to wear a crowd-pleaser but I had instant regrets the second I sprayed it. I was stressed and I didn’t want to smell like caramel first thing in the morning. But wow, the compliments kept coming on this scent so I’m glad this is the one I picked. The intense caramel dies down in a few hours and the woodiness comes out blending with that caramel. It really mellows out after the initial sweetness. This is self-assured and chill and perfect for certain occasions. BR 540 has amazing lasting power and sillage and I love that. It’s got a presence that you can feel – like armor that’s made out of glass toffee.

Sunscreen Empties

Tell me you’re in a heat wave without telling me you’re in a heat wave. #sunscreen #empties from this week. Neutrogena Hydro Boost SPF 50 on the body mostly. It absorbs and leaves your skin super soft!  My entire family loves this one, and it is often on sale so get it while you can.  I also recommend the higher SPF, so if you find it in SPF 50, go for that. Text

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Stick also SPF 50 is a favourite formula but I carve it out and melt in my hands to apply.

The Cerave Ultra-Light Moisturizing Lotion is a favourite too. I put on a thick layer and let it set.  At $48 this is a bit pricy but it’s probably not as likely to annoy sensitive skin.

Have you tried any of these?

Bondi Sands Gradual Self-Tanning Milk Review

I haven’t used a self-tanner for a few years so when Bondi Sands reached out asking if I wanted to try their product, I jumped on it and said yes. I had seen it at the drugstore so I wanted to have a peek. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

TextWell, their Everyday Gradual Self-Tanning Milk has won me over and I’ll be using it until it’s done. I love the huge pump bottle and the light consistency. The colour is very gradual and builds up slowly, so that mistakes aren’t noticeable and you can really control how you build colour without it getting too dark. On already tan skin, it adds some warmth that I love. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Because this is a milk, it’s not very hydrating but I put a heavier lotion or body butter on top.

$44.25 online, but it’s also on sale at Shoppers Drug Mart for $22.39.
