I’ve always loved Tarte products and their “clay” product line is amazing, because it’s made for oily skin and all the products are made to be long-wearing.
I had to try their 12-hour clay foundation because I love a long-wearing foundation.
At first, I was completely got put off by the foundation because I had the wrong shade and it went on so thickly on to my skin and almost looked like a mask. I hurried back to Sephora and found the foundation in the right colour. It matches exactly, but is the fourth darkest shade available, so the shade selection for the foundation isn’t very wide. Still, there are lots of colours available and they’re very skin-true with real warm/yellow undertones as well as some beige/pink colours.
Once I had the right colour, the foundation was amazing. It is medium to full coverage and can cover almost anything. Although the cream is thick in my hand, it smooths out easily and can be blended and buffed into the skin before it sets. I didn’t need to set this foundation with a powder, but it doesn’t have a matte finish. Instead if has a slightly dewy very skin-like satiny finish. It looks natural on the skin which is quite a chance from most long-wearing, full coverage foundations.
This foundation looked amazing on me for about 6 hours. I would say that at hour 6, it actually looked fresh and like I had just applied it, but shortly thereafter, it started fading and melting as it absorbed some of the oil on my skin. It did last 12 hours on me, but not as well as a matte finish foundation might.
Still, if you have dry to combination skin, and want a long-wearing foundation, then this will be the one for you. I might actually use it more in the winter when my skin is more dry and not quite so oily, but it’s not a summer foundation for me.
Have you tried this one? What did you think?
I am going to try the Dior Star foundation next!
I have never tried this foundation, but am intrigued. I just recently purchased Jane Iredale foundation- which was SO expensive. I too have oily skin and was looking for something to matify. Unfortunately, this product is very emollient, and near the end of the day I can wipe my forehead with the back of my hand and I’ll have a shiny patch on my hand. The big reason why I purchased this makeup was because it was meant to be a healthy alternative with ingredients that were good for your skin – and it might be too early to tell, but on some days I do find my skin looks better when I’m not wearing makeup. Although, I’ve been lucky enough to have pretty good skin so it isn’t as though it went from horrible to good. Maybe this Tarte Clay one will be the next to try, but it sounds too thick for me.
Hi Alison, it is VERY think but blends out into your skin quite easily. Still, it sounds like you have skin similar to mine. I too have very oily skin and I need something that has coverage and can deal with that.
Tarte blushes and eyeshadows are SO good on oily skin. Love them.
