What Kind of Concealer Should I Use?

The type of concealer you use really depends on your skin type and what kind of coverage you need. I don’t use a lot of concealer because I like the natural look for my skin. I do use concealer if I have any redness or scarring that I wasn’t able to minimize the look of with foundation.

I really love a click pen concealer, like Givenchy’s Mister Light for under my eyes. It’s not very pigmented but it’s brightening. I can’t believe I’ve never reviewed it before.

I also like Nars Soft Matte concealer – I’m the colour Ginger. The colours that they offer are natural-looking and blend effortlessly. You can also layer this to be a more heavy-duty concealer.

That’s what I love, but I’m open to hearing what you guys are using!

I use Revlon Colourstay in my pro kit and it is AMAZING. Stays all day on the oiliest of skins, and under hot lamps. If you use a mineral makeup, apply the concealer first and let it dry (takes only a few seconds). If you use a liquid foundation, apply the foundation as you would regularly, then take a small concealer brush with synthetic bristles and take some of the concealer off of the wand, brush a little bit off on your hand (don’t want to work with too much) and then gently pat the concealer on the pimple and blend out into the immediate surrounding area, which is typically red as well. Make sure you set it with a powder afterward.

I don’t like to use foundation as a concealer only because I find that it tends to look cakey after you’ve piled layer upon layer of it. Also find that it doesn’t stay put as well.

For pimples, I use the Concealer Stick with Tea Tree Oil from the Body shop. It is thick enough that it doesn’t slip off, but it also doesn’t look cakey. And while concealing, it helps to get rid of the pimple. I love it!

I have recently started using Erase Paste from Benefit and I am pretty happy with it. I have become a bit obsessed with concealer and was on the hunt for the ‘perfect’ one. I haven’t used this Erase Paste for long enough yet to decide whether it’s the ‘perfect’ one, but it’s up there so far.

The thing is that I am 43 and the fine lines around my eyes are becoming more apparent, so I am reluctant on getting anything that will enhance them or dry out my skin there, when I am trying to cover any imperfections.

I would be interested in hearing if anyone else has any good recommendations.
