Nars Spring 2011 (Lots of Pictures!)

Throwback to this Nars’ 2011 spring collection which I really loved and wore lots of. This saw the launch of the Velvet Gloss pencils.

Have a look at the glosses on offer ($28 each). Nars enters the black lipgloss arena with their own offering: Nana. Instead of being an actual black, this is a deep grape colour that’s sheer so it can be worn on its own or over lipstick for a dramatically dark lip.

However, my favourites are the Angelika and Super Orgasm lip glosses. I actually have Angelika blush and it’s nice to be able to match a gloss to it absolutely perfect because it’s such a bright colour. The gloss is sheer but has enough of a bright pigment to really wake up your look. Super Orgasm is very similar to the Orgasm lip gloss. It’s the same hue with a bit more glitter. It’s not as super glittery as the blush, which to be honest, is a relief. I found the Super Orgasm blush to be very unwearable because of all the glitter.

If you haven’t tried Nars lip glosses, you should – they are a treat. They provide a cushion of non-sticky moisture and protection to your lips while giving an ample dose of colour.

The two eyeshadow duos ($38) are called Bateau Ivre (limited edition) and Nouveau Monde. Bateau Ivre is the sky blue and denim colours in a shimmer and matte formulas. The other duo is a silvery lilac colour paired with a golden olive green.

There is also a lipstick and pure matte lipstick in the mix ($30 each). The lipstick itself is awesome. Called Tzigane, this is a nude pinky brown that will look good on almost anyone. It is an easy to wear, sheer colour. The pure matte lipstick is called Madere and I know that most people will not be able to wear this. The colour is a light beige peach, that will only suit the fairest complexions. It may serve well as a base to lipgloss because it will make your lips look devoid of any colour.

The nail colour ($21) is called Desperado and is a bronze. Stay tuned for a swatch, but here’s the bottle for now.

Nina L’Elixer

Nina Ricci introduces a new version of their 2006 scent Nina.  The new perfume is called Nina L’Elixer, and comes in a pretty red glass bottle with chrome-gold details.  The original Nina Ricci bottles were designed by Marc Lalique in the ’50’s and that explains the timeless appeal of the bottle. The original bottle was named “Fille de Eve” and paradoxically hinted at Eden – the bottle has since been modified for different Ricci creations but remains beautiful.

Olivier Cresp designed the scent, and it opens with a citrusy floral note, the middle notes is mostly apple, and the dry down is a musk and amber blend.  I found this a little difficult to wear because of the fruity notes in both the opening and the middle, but after a couple of hours, I absolutely loved the musky ambery blend.

Because of the apple and amber, this is definitely a fall fragrance and reminds you of orchards and baking at a lavish dinner party.  Think of it as an upscale apple pie rather than the one grandma used to make.  You can smell the apples, but also the heady floral and amber of the woman with lots of gold seated behind you.

The Eau de Parfum costs $52 for 30ml, $78 for 50ml, and $95 for 80ml.

Favourite Pink Lip Products

My favourite pinks of the moment.  I really love the MAC Love me Lipcolor in Under the Covers because it’s moisturizing but it also leaves a stain on your lips, so once some rubs off on the mask, the colour is still there.

Dior Matte 772 Lipstick Swatch

Dior has the creamist dreamiest matte lipsticks and this one in the shade 772 is no exception.  It went on without tugging or pulling and even though I had it for such a long time, it wasn’t dry at all.

This colour is also great – it’s like a reddish pink, not a true red but not a pink.  I think it would flatter a lot of skin tones.

You can get this at Dior counters.

HNY Skincare

HNY Skincare is a small company out of Ontario that makes skincare products with beeswax in them.  I got their Beauty Balm, their Hand and Nail Cream, and their Soothing Body Balm this summer but am really using them now because it’s so cold out and my hands need something more nourishing.

I mean, check out the texture of this balm.  It is luscious and oh so smooth, which is rare for something that’s got beeswax in it because sometimes those products can be a bit gritty.  I would say that this is even nicer than some of that Burt’s Bees stuff that’s out there.

Here is the texture of all the balms – the body balm is what I’m using right now, and I have it right beside my bed so that I can use it when I need it.

You can find everything on their website.  The Body Balm is just $19.97 and they have Free Shipping right now!

Mascara Review: L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes

L’Oreal’s Voluminous Million Lashes is a twist on the original Voluminous mascara. It’s a different formula and has a brush called the Millionizer.  The brush is large and has a multitude of bristles (I wouldn’t say a million) that can separate lashes and so add length as well as volume.

Like the Telescopic brush, this one is also a little on the bendy side and isn’t a hard brush like the Covergirl LashBlast brush.

I usually hate large brushes, but I found this one exceptionally easy to work with.  The bristles seem to grab on to my lashes so that I can apply just on them and don’t end up getting mascara all over my eyelid.

The formula is also really well made.  It separates lashes, seems to add fibres to lash ends so that they look longer, and it layers like a dream.  You can just keep adding layers and layers of mascara to give yourself really voluminous lashes, and that’s what really makes this mascara shine.

I am finding myself reaching for this mascara over all others these days and I think that’s because it’s so easy to use and it actually gives great volume to your lashes!  I did find some flaking at the end of the day, but I think that may be due to the amount of mascara I’m applying and I don’t think that it has anything to do with the mascara itself.

Pick it up for about $10, here.

Swatch: OPI Dulce de Leche

OPI’s Dulce de Leche is a classic28.  Check out my swatch and you’ll see why this colour is to die for.  It’s such a pretty creamy pink-brown and when freshly applied, it just looks so polished and clean.

It’s definitely a staple kind of colour, and perfect for having on hand for those days that you’re tired of your dark and trendy colours.
