Empties Right Now: Boscia, Vichy, Isle of Roses

Some empties from the last week.

TextBoscia vitamin C is maybe one of my favourite vitamin C’s ever. It’s so watery and absorbs instantly. The packaging also helps it stay stable and I find a pump dispenser so much easier to use than a dropper bottle. it is 10% vitamin C so gentle and effective.

Vichy Laboratories Dercos hair serum is finished too. Did it work? 🤷🏽‍♀️ my hair stylist didn’t say anything when I went to see her last week so… I would say that if you are struggling with hair loss, trying this is worth a shot, if your blood work and everything else is normal.

Isle of Roses hair oil – ugh. This tiny bottle didn’t smell like anything and I used it up in a week.

Lise Watier Metropolis Palette

If my almost-new Lise Watier Metropolis palette is looking a little dinged up, it’s because I’ve been using it almost every day since I got it. It’s a warm bronzer with a warm bronze shimmer.

TextThe shimmer is highlight, and I use the bronzer on my cheeks, not to contour. Because it’s a warm colour, using it where the sun might hit makes it look more natural than putting it under the cheekbones. The shimmer is fine and the powder is super blendable. I’m getting a lot of use from this palette.

Sunscreens in Rotation: Ombrelle, Vichy, and Aveeno

Three sunscreens I’ve had on rotation for the past week. Aveeno Sensitive Skin sunscreen is a thick mineral formula that is so gentle on the face. If your skin is sensitive, this won’t be as ouchy, but yikes the white cast is for sure there.

TextI used this one after my peel because my skin was so sensitive and it was the one that stung the least. Garnier Ombrelle Complete SPF 60. Love this one! It’s a bit of a dewy finish sunscreen but it’s clear and moisturizing. Did you know that Mexoryl is a stabilizer for your sunscreen? Bonus points there.

Vichy Ideal Soleil mineral sunscreen. Also pretty light but ok with foundation on top. Hit or miss for me.

Replica Autumn Vibes Perfume

Fallelujah!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

TextI can’t help it, every time I think of Autumn Vibes, a movie-trailer voice comes on in my head saying “from the people who brought you By the Fireplace… it’s Autumn Vibes….”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Pair with cozy sweaters, toques, suede boots, and a pumpkin spice latte.⠀Autumn Vibes is actually done well. It’s crisp but woody and smells like fire without the smoke. It really reminds me of being outside before the campfire started. I like it. Worth a sniff.

Strivectin Advanced Retinol Nightly Renewal Moisturizer

The latest retinol-containing moisturizer from Strivectin is here and I’ve been using it for the past few months.

TextThe main thing to know is that it’s super gentle and moisturizing. It has two forms of retinoid in it: retinol and retinal. One needs one conversion before being used by your skin and the other needs 2. Because it takes converting before your skin uses these forms of retinoids, they’re more gentle. Also, the formula doesn’t have a lot of retinol in it, it’s more gentle. Really, this is one you might be able to use every day, and you might even find it moisturizing. If you have questions, drop them below.

Empties: Fresh Beauty Sugar Lip Balm

Do you know these? The bougie lip balm that started it all. @freshbeauty Sugar lip balm was probably the first lip balm I bought from Sephora over 10 years ago and I’m still using it. It comes in lots of different colours (I also have Fig and Ruby) but the clear Advanced Theory is probably my favourite which is why this one is finished. These are so melty in the summer that I normally take them out in the winter.

Vintage Miss Dior

My mom’s bottle of Miss Dior from the 70’s. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

TextShe smelled this on her aunt when her aunt was getting married and loved it, but didn’t know what it was. Then her dad (my grandfather) went on a business trip to Germany and brought this back for her. The second she smelled it, she knew it was her aunt’s perfume from that day, and she’s kept it ever since. She takes it out to smell it once in a while and dabs on a bit but that’s it. I offered to decant it for her, but no, it’s not to spray on, it’s just to smell and remember those days. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

It’s been stored in a cool dark place and lasted through many moves, across countries and continents.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra-Fluid Lotion SPF 50 for Body Review.

Text⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Ultra-fluid means ultra-runny, which means that this is one watery sunscreen. And I don’t mean that it’s bad! It’s clear and very easy to rub into your skin, but when you first pour it out, you’ll notice that you have to be careful with it, because it’s more like a body milk than a lotion. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Would I purchase this again? Probably not. It’s just not my favourite texture, and I prefer a cream. More than anything else, I think that sport sunscreens are my favourite formulations because they’re sweat-proof and water-proof, so if I see those, that’s what I’m getting. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I actually loved using this on my face too, so I’ll be doing that as well. You can see that half the bottle is already finished, and that was in just one week.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

La Roche-Posay is really the sunscreen brand of the moment, and I’ve ordered a few more sunscreens from them that I’m waiting on.

Available online for about $31, and in drugstores.

Dune by Christian Dior – Vintage Bottle

Dune by Christian Dior, this is an old bottle from the 90’s. Spicy and warm, this was absolutely the wrong thing to wear for a sushi lunch.

Madame Rochas perfume by Rochas Paris

This ad caught my eye, and then I somehow acquired the perfume in a swap in a nice turn of events!

I’ve been Madame Rochas this week – clearly I have a new bottle and the latest formulation. I don’t mind it.

Text

It really reminds me of baby powder, but more floral, and that’s the iris in it. It has gorgeous violet leaf that makes it a bit green and decent lasting power too. It’s perfect in hot weather and I even like wearing it at night and smelling it right when I get up. It’s fresh without being citrusy, and I do like that.

In terms of composition, the seems to be quite linear on my skin and really stays fresh and powdery all day.  I love that, because in hot weather, I don’t want anything to change too much.  It is also a little old-school in its way and I love that too.  I haven’t smelled a new launch that smells like this – and it definitely has a place in my fragrance collection.

Google this and look around for it – you can probably score a bottle for about $30-$40.
