There are some things that you should know about Skinceutical’s P-Tiox Serum, and the new P-Tiox moisturizer before you spend lots of money on them. The name P-Tiox sounds like Botox, which is a toxin that temporarily freezes the muscles it’s injected into so that they can’t move, which then in turns prevents the skin from forming wrinkles in that area. The P-Tiox line won’t do that, of course, but it’s hoping that you think of Botox and think of it to give you the same type of smooth skin. The line actually uses peptides that have been shown to relax wrinkles and make skin smoother. The effects won’t be the same as anything you can get at the doctor’s office, but they can help if a more intensive treatment is not in the cards.
There’s also niacinamide in this, which is an ingredient that helps skin tone. Did you know that most often, it’s the sun damage that impacts the way your skin looks from a distance, and contributes to people thinking that they look “older”? That’s probably why so many products have niacinamide in them – it seems to be relatively easy (and cheap!) to incorporate at small percentages, and it has been shown to help with skin clarity, including minimizing breakouts.
There are also some acids in the P-Tiox serum to help exfoliate your skin gently, which will make it smoother and again, more clear.
What you’re getting when you spent lots of money on an expensive serum or moisturizer is a cocktail of ingredients that is meant to work well together. It’s the difference between buying a fancy coffee or a black coffee. A black coffee will always be cheaper and is good for delivering just caffeine. The latte can be fortified with protein, fats, calories, and even flavours that enhance the enjoyment of the drink and fortify the body. Sometimes, I like the most basic skincare, especially when it might be irritated or extra dry, but at other times, I want to throw everything at it so get some real improvement. If you’re looking for a serum or moisturizer to add to your routine so that it can do more, then these two might just be for you.
Skinceuticals has long been known for its vitamin C serum, but they’ve always done studies on their products. They did a 12-week clinical study on the P-Tiox Cream and found that there was a 17% reduction in forhead wrinkles, a 10% reduction in nasolabial folds and a 21% reduction in pore size. All of that to say that not only does the serum work, but so does the cream, and it might help to layer the two.
