Perfume should make you feel something, and if it doesn’t, then it’s not for you. This comes through at our Smell Club each month because people bring things that mean something to them. Either what they’ve bought, or what they love, or what they want to share. This month’s theme ended up being “this or that” because we brought things to compare – without even talking about it beforehand!
Here’s what we compared:
Guidance and Guidance 46 (different but both were strongly related)
Obsession 1992 and current Obsession (current is thinner but still good)
Dior Homme Intense 2022 and 2025 (the differences were negligible)
L’Heure Bleue 2026 and 2012 (Legendaire bottle) (The two are nothing alike).Joop old and current (quite similar!)
Also! A Moschino edt that was bright and fresh,
MFK Oud Cachmere which is now discontinued, some Ensar Oud, a bit of Areej Le Dore, Lancome O, January Scent Project, and
Papillon Dryad (mossy!).
I really liked Lush’s The Smell of Weather Turning and got a bit to try at home. It’s so fresh, minty, and like a blast of clean air after the rain. I can’t wait to wear it more. If you like earthy aromatic scents, then this might be one you like. I also got a bit of Patchouli Leaves by Montale because it strongly reminded me of Borneo 1864 by Serge Lutens. I will compare them side by side. Borneo is one of my favourite patchoulis, but if Patchouli Leaves does the trick despite being a fraction of the price, then that’s the one that I would get. We also smelled many oud perfumes and a cool brand called Lost Tribe, which seems artisanal. They’re hard to sample, but the bottles are cute, and if you like interesting scents with strong natural materials and heavy animalics, then you should smell them. We must have smelled at least 20 or so perfumes which would be impossible to find in any store, so this was really an amazing meetup. Until next month!
